Red Bull might, but Vettel's not known for being that courteous...
True - maybe if Webber takes the lead early as expected he'll settle for 2nd for once.

Smart for people to pit as early as possible, before the field starts to spread out.

Massa seems to be flying.

I wish the clocks hadn't gone back an hour, as this borefest would now be over.

Are David Coulthards Trousers Getting Even Tighter?

Just been watching Suzi Perry, Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard walking down the 'pit lane' at the start of this morning’s BBC1 coverage of the Indian Grand Prix and it was actually making my eyes water.......seriously!

If I wore trousers like that I’d be screaming for an ice-pack within 10 paces!

Eddie Jordan wears similar unflattering full-length Speedos’ (sorry trousers) but at least he seems to have room for making ‘strategic manoeuvres’.

Please Mr Coulthard, give yourself a little ‘breathing space’, it’s not a good look for TV; (although I’m sure many will disagree with me!)

The DRS on the Merc's doesn't seem to be as effective as on other cars.

Definitely seems like Merc' are applying more downforce, to help the tyres, and their top end is suffering as a result.

The effectiveness of the DRS depends on the downforce levels. DRS is more effective when the rear wing is producing more downforce.

The Merc's seem to be fast in Qualy, but they always seem to struggle in the race.

Seems like tyres are the key again - good tactical battle I guess but not much excitement on the track.

Alonso's position means Vettel is WC even if he retired from the race now

The effectiveness of the DRS depends on how much of the downforce it can eliminate.
Seems like the Merc' DRS just isn't creating much of a benefit.

In quali' extra downforce means extra corner speed and, thus, a better time but in a race you can't drive through corners faster when there's another car getting in the way.

Basically, for the Merc's, it's a case of getting stuck behind the car in front for most of the lap, fail to overtake on the straight and then remain stuck behind for another lap. Rinse and repeat.

And, of course, it's likely that they can't just decide to run less downforce cos that'd mean going back to burning up the tyres quicker than anybody else.

Oooh, Webber out with an alternator fault.
Same Alternator that's on Vettel's car.

Good point there.

We can live in hope

It would only delay the inevitable though

Next year it could be more open with the cars changing/turbo engines coming back but does look like 4 in a row for vet soon

Unless Alonso can slice up to 2nd it won't matter if Vettel's alternator goes west

Hamilton seems to be struggling to pass this afternoon - really really struggling. While Rosberg is doing an excellent job in a podium position, Hamilton's gone on the missing list for the umpteenth time this season.

I think it's just luck after pitstops.
Rosberg came out in clear air which has meant that he can make use of the Merc's all-round pace whereas Hamilton's come out of the pits with people in front of him and he just hasn't got the top-end to pass using DRS and then the nature of the track means, basically, you've just got to follow the other guy around and wait to have another go next time around.

Radio message telling Vettel to stop using his drinks bottle.
Hopefully his alternator's dodgy and they're desperately trying to save leccy.

Mercs are running more rear wing to make the tyres work, which is compromising straight line speed

It's not just today. I've noticed a general trend that after his win in Hungary, Hamilton's just settled for that and his race performances have been lacklustre at times. Of course he had problems in Monza and Japan as well.

Yep their lower downforce package as shown in Spa and Monza wasn't massively competitive and I think this is an Achilles heel for Merc. Fundamental to that is their tyre wear. They run low downforce and their tyres die a death.

No complaints here, Alonso messed his own race up (and Button's) with his first lap dodgem antics
