The shop price is £4.90 an issue (12 issues for £58.80), Official Subscription is £3.75 an issue (12 issues for £45.00) but you can get it for just £1.58 an issue (12 issues for £19.00) with this offer.”

Or free if this post works, eh?

I did "borrow" the link from another website since it showed the local deals near Leeds (I don't live there) which I assumed was the area the deal was being offered in.

I did go direct to the Social Living website but a popup wants you to pick a city and input your email address to view the deals. I didn't want to sign up without looking into the full deal first. so I used the other link.

I haven't actually purchased the deal yet.

And I thought DS formats any 3rd party links for their own referals anyway?

It's obviously all about the branding. Valentino Rossi has probably made a few quid out of "46" branded stuff and somebody in F1 has decided they'd like a slice of that action.
Seems a bit silly to me.

The double-points thing is just plain stupid.
Forget, for a moment, that it's just the last race. It's simply one of 19 races and, like all the other races, some cars are going to be better than others on a given circuit.
Why on Earth would you think it's fair to give some teams an extra reward simply because they happen to have a car which suits a particular circuit?
At the very least, to make it fair, they'd have to either select the "double-points" circuit at random each year or re-arrange the calender every year so a different circuit is the final race.
Or just, y'know, scrap the idea entirely.”

The numbering is good all round for drivers and teams building fan base and therefore sales...for fans buying merchandise of their fave driver can buy stuff that won't date as quickly and be worn for longer-term even if said driver changes teams it can be used without embarrassment...better than say football teams who change colours every half year or so..

Bazza Sheene started it...Rossi stated he kept his #46 as Barry kept his #7 as inspiration but equally I'm sure Vale knew that Barry was as shrewd as Bernie when it came to marketing... and both have made a bomb out of it

Lorenzo has #99 even when he's been world champ as said above incorporates the 1 into his number if need be......i don't know if in F1 though that teams will insist being no.1 displayed though for their own marketing campaigns....??

Nicky Hayden by the way has #69 as did Jamie Whitham in his day......it's popular but not for the reasons you may think.....it just looks same upside down in the gravel!!

Don't really recall Sheene making a big deal about the number.
I recall him having #7 but I guess I was too young to really notice any merchandising.

Rossi was just the best example I could think of. Seems like there's mountains of "46" branded merchandise available.
My mate's even got a 46-branded R1 parked-up in my garage at the moment.

Then there's Mansell and his "Red 5", I suppose.
I always wondered if he was a Star Wars fan.

Just browsing the F1.com website and noticed THIS.
So, Ferrari gave Massa one of the 2008 engines that won him a WDC for about 20 seconds.
Shame he won't be able to bung it in the back of his Williams next year.

Also noticed THIS.
Not sure about the idea of fitting the KERS batteries directly underneath the fuel cell.
I'm sure they know what they're doing but the idea of putting a huge source of ignition right underneath a supply of flammable liquid seems a bit iffy to me.

Also, I see Ferrari will be asking fans to name the 2014 car.
Huge potential for shennanigans there.
Maybe they should officially name it the "Pile of F**king Shit" cos that's probably what either Alonso or Raikkonen (or maybe both) will be calling it by mid-season anyway.

Very sad news for long time fans. It appears that Eddie Irvine has been a bit of a naughty boy and got himself a 6 month prison sentance for brawling in a nightclub. He may be lucky and have it suspended but got to see

From the BBC:

Quote:
“The former Formula One racing driver Eddie Irvine has been sentenced to six months in prison by an Italian court.

It is not yet clear if the retired racing driver will actually have to serve time in jail.”

And the incident in question goes back to 2008 (assuming this is accurate). Wow - the Italian justice system sure works slow. Perhaps he will appeal and it will take another six years for the court to make a decision.

Lol at Maldonado's choice!

Frankly they're all a little uninspiring selections. Vettel opting for 5 is interesting, given its connection to Mansell. I know he's an Anglophyle but he wouldn't have been watching F1 in Nigel's heyday so I'm not sure if there's any connection.

I like Earl Hayden's (Nicky's dad) reason for choosing 69 when racing bikes that you could still read it upside down.

Schumacher used it too for a couple of seasons, including when he won his first title. Maybe that's significant to him?

Bib - I'm guessing it's because he won the title in 2010 with that number.

Was just coming on to post this. Sad news, he was a nice guy and always smiled. Seemed to genuinely enjoy his son's career, even when it wasn't going great! I'm sure his presence in the pit lane will be missed.

Gutted to hear about John Button. He was one of those faces that made you realise that F1 wasn't just a corporate circle-jerk and that it is actually a pretty close-knit family.
I'm sure he'll be sadly missed by heaps of people involved in the sport.

Just seen THIS on F1.com and, if what's under the sheet is for real, it looks like Ferrari has decided against going for the hook-nose as speculated about HERE.

Kudos to them if, like McLaren a couple of years ago, they've actually tried to design an elegant car even if it isn't necessarily the most efficient solution.

I see Bernie is now being charged with bribery by a German court and has stood down from the board of F1's operating company while he defends his honour (cough, cough). Not a great start to the 2014 season.

I cant see Ferrari putting elegance over performance. Look where it got Mclaren.

That's a bit harsh.
The 2012 McLaren was alright, even though it lacked the obvious "gator nose" most other teams opted for.

I guess it is a bit naive to suggest a team would deliberately opt for an inferior design though.
I suppose what I should have said is, kudos to Ferrari for persevering to make a more elegant design work rather than going with the easy, ugly, route.

That's if that picture is for real and isn't simply the result of somebody taping a bit of cardboard over the nose to hide it's real shape or Ferrari bunging a fake nose on their show-car, of course.

Blimey!

Kind of suggests that tensions are running high behind the scenes at Woking.

You get the feeling that Whitmarsh is one of those softly-spoken types who registers his displeasure by frowning and hanging his head whereas Dennis has always seemed like a shouter so I bet lots of people (and not just management) are a bit nervous about him returning to the pit-wall.

Hamilton must be gutted if the rumours about Ross Brawn are true.
Still, If McLaren do hire Brawn, it'll probably take him (and Dennis) a couple of years to get McLaren back in shape and that'll be just about the time that Hamilton will be looking for a new seat.
Yellow helmet, McLaren Honda.

I can see Dennis' return to F1 causing problems in the paddock though.
The rumours, back in 2009, seemed to be that part of the reason he left was because he'd upset too many people and those people were getting their revenge by sticking it to McLaren whenever possible and most of the people who Dennis has pissed off still work in F1.

And one of them, in particular, is currently in charge of the FIA.

I can't see Dennis returning as team principal. I would not be surprised if he's already got Brawn lined up for that but that would only work if Brawn has been promised full autonomy. Mclaren is a far bigger company than just the F1 team these days so the role of CEO encompasses much wider responsibilities. I'm surprised the same person was ever given CEO and Team Principal roles together in any case.

You get the feeling that F1 is in for a turbulent couple of years. Bernie's legal issues and possible repercussions, the impact of the changes to the regulations shaking the grid up possibly, financial troubles still very much present for some of the teams (if Lotus drop down the grid they are doomed)...
