I do remember that - was it Silverstone? I seem to recall it was the end of a long straight and cars started to aquaplane off the track after trying to switch to intermediates.

Thanks, I knew it looked wrong. I think he does mean it as he said though more as a 'sympathy' crash, where you follow the driver in front of you off the track as you're focusing so hard on what they're doing.

i was talking about the recovery vehicles, the one that went after jules car was stupid to reverse at speed to edge of track with hook over the track. he could have cause a major accident

It doesn't sound good but its hard to know whats good or bad. If there is still bleeding then thats not good but if they are able to make a second surgical intervention to stop it then that is good.

Right now we've got to just keep waiting and we will find out more when people are ready to tell us more.

Indeed.

It's just a fanciful way of describing the sort of crash where a driver loses control and becomes little more than a passenger in a car that's heading toward an inevitable impact.

Some people just read too much into these things.

Bianchi now said to not to be breathing unaided. It sounds like this report was mistaken from the out set rather than this is a change in his condition.

Lets hope there is a positive update later today.

They just said on Sky news that it's not true he's had a second operation and that he's not breathing for himself. I'm sure she said not but maybe (hopefully) I heard wrong.

Sky sports news has just said contrary to reports he is not breathing unaided. Injuries remind me of schui's skiing accident earlier this year, I hope the outcome is more positive.

It seems to me the real issue is having a recovery vehicle trackside with cars still racing. You can design safety features into F1 cars, have run off areas to scrub off speed and barriers that can absorb an impact but it is all negated when you have a solid metal vehicle entering the arena.

Not entirely sure about that.

I hope nobody takes this the wrong way (although I fear they will) but waved yellow flags, if their meaning is truly being observed, should be sufficient.

The problem in this case seems to be that rather than slowing down sufficiently that they were able to stop if required bearing in mind the prevailing weather conditions, the drivers were just "backing off a bit".

I suppose there's always the possibility that you might have, perhaps, one car crash and then another car suffer a jammed throttle and/or failed brakes and go ploughing into the other car, marshals or a rescue vehicle but when a fully-functional car falls off the track under yellow flags then clearly the driver isn't actually obeying the intent of the yellow flags.

Perhaps the way forward would be for all drivers to have to engage their pit-lane limiters whenever they're going through a section of track controlled by waved yellows?
A first waved yellow would be an indication for a driver to slow down and engage the limiter and any driver who failed to comply by the time they went past a 2nd waved yellow (verified via telemetry) gets black-flagged?

As you say it is tricky and unfortunately whatever you do motor racing will remain inherently risky unless it is run behind a safety car. BIB this could lead to a driver to run into the back of ano who has activated their pit-lane speed limiter and they haven't yet.

Anyway up until the dreadful accident it was an exciting race thanks to the rain.

Sutil suggests the particular corner is established as particularly difficult when grip becomes an issue and the moment his accident occurred, could have been the appropriate time to conclude the race as the 40 lap point had been achieved.

We don't know anything about the cause of poor Bianci's subsequent collision and should wait for the facts to become known. In the meantime, the press shouldn't speculate on his condition and as with other such matters, wait for either the family, hospital, or appointed representatives to state the facts. Can only hope for a successful outcome.

There are still clips on youtube showing the crash. I'm not given to swearing, but holy %^&$ ! That's a nasty crash. Some extremely lucky marshall's too.

Also amazing that none of the marshals were hurt.

6 inches to the right and Bianchi probably would not of had a scratch on him.

The fact that Bianchi is still alive says an enormous amount about the strength of modern F1 cars.
