Surely SPOTY is in the bag this time. It would be a disgrace if he didn't win this year.

He'll be second for the third time, behind Rory Mac this time.

Well done to Lewis. Been best driver this season and fully deserved to win. Do feel for nico though, not a nice way to lose but could have just as easily been Lewis. Looking forward to next season.

WTF! One of the cars came absolutely LAST Obviously Bernie's fault.

(Sorry I didn't have time to make a negative post during the race - I was watching the telly)

Eddie Jordan pulls Nikki Lauda out from a live German TV interview just after Suzie said they couldn't.

The look on the Germans' faces !

Some would say anything with an engine is not a real sport.

I know it's been Rory's best year yet, but he really hasn't proved that popular in SPOTY previously.

I reckon Lewis will nick SPOTY, though I'm sure he'd live if he didn't

McIlroy doesn't have a personality. Maybe that's why he's never won. And a lot of people didn't like they way he handled the break up with Wozniacki.

One pleasing aspect of today's result which may have gone unnoticed is that the doubling of points had absolutely no effect on the standings whatsoever.

I would have been pleased whoever took it but I think Lewis certainly has more credibility as the champion.

The big question is that, since he already got the MBE for his first, what's he gonna get for a 2nd?

Sir Lewis of Stevenage?

I'm sure Nicole would like the idea of having a title.

I'd hold off on buying that hat if I were her. He hasn't put a ring on it yet.

I'll take that. Excellent start from Lewis pretty much sealed the deal before Nico's PU woes. He's been by far, the better Mercedes drive this season; the results speak for themselves. Eleven wins to his team mates five, and arguably, there could have been at least two or three wins from those DNF's.

Great job by Nico - he at least kept Lewis honest for bits of this this season, even if he was aided by mechanical gremlins and the odd dirty trick. There were days where he was the better driver of the two on race day, but they were too few and far between.

Onwards to next year!

Having any of the Saxe-Coburgs at an event devalues it. Harry should be delighted with an Anglo German victory though.

Fantastic for Lewis and thoroughly deserved. Would have been a travesty if he hadn't won the WDC. Whipped Rosberg's a--- in virtually all the races in which they competed wheel to wheel.

Only slightly sour note apart from the fizzy water was the absence of Lewis's mother. I realise relations between her and Hamilton snr are very bad but even so it didn't look good.

I'm pleased Lewis won, he deserved it after the number of wins this year. I think he had been the best driver by some margin this year.

Shame Nico didn't get to race to the end, but Lewis had already got it under control so at least that didn't change who became world champion.

Lovely speeches from both of them & from Jenson, hope he has a drive next year.

Great performance this year by Williams - what a turn up for Massa to leave Ferrari and then get podiums with Williams .

Really like Daniel too, nice seeing him beat Seb so comprehensively after the last 4 years & looking forward to next year. Be interesting seeing how Alonso does and if he's made the right move ...

I wonder how well Daniel would have done had he qualified in top 5 because he was really quick and to say he started from pitlane. He could have been the one to beat.

Well done Lewis, feel sorry for Nico not having a chance to compete till the end. Could have just as easily been Lewis in trouble with the ERS, but think on balance he deserved it.

Abu Dhabi is terrible place for a season finale, and its back for next year.

Driver of year for me was Ricciardo, heres hoping RBR can give him a car to challenge next year.

At least in golf all the competitors get to use the best equipment so the most talented performers come out on top. In F1 it is nearly all dependent on the equipment as shown by Vettel winning everything but now nowhere near to Hamilton/Rosberg. Hamilton is a superb driver but should not win SPOTY on this basis.
