I saw Eddie Jordan on the BBC F1 Forum and he said that under the right circumstances Ross Brawn would be overseeing VW/Audi coming to the sport in 2017. See attached Video 41:20 to 43:25

I've had to watch re-runs all season as I don't get to stay at home on Sundays now but i've seen the result already thanks to being trigger happy on the 401 EPG - oops.

A little disappointed in F1 these days. It seems like we've had one team dominating for too long now, whether it's Mercedes this season or Red Bull last season etc as opposed to the two team battles of the past.

I'm hoping Red Bull are even more competitive next year and give Ricciardo a decent car to challenge at the front as he has the talent to win multiple titles and may have even won it this year in a Merc. Also hoping Alonso gets a top car as he deserves one to go with his talent.

And of course yourself. 23000 odd posts yet the type of contribution that would shame a newbie.

Well done to Lewis winning the World Championship now to win Spoty

And I hope Jenson does stay F1 because I think he still has got the ability to race

I thought exactly the same. What happened to Nico today could supposedly just as easily happened to Lewis and if it had we'd have a completely different result. Not a fan of his personally but I think few could deny that Hamilton is totally deserving of the title this year by virtue of his number of race wins. I feel that if he gets another strong car Rosberg is going to be way better next year.

Abu Dhabi is terrible place for a season finale, and its back for next year.

Driver of year for me was Ricciardo, heres hoping RBR can give him a car to challenge next year.”

Totally agree with that and with Bottas a close second. Stunningly impressive driving throughout the season from DR and wiped the floor with Vettel, no surprise he's bailed before further humiliation follows.

If McLaren are daft enough to dispense with Jenson, I do hope that he still has time to find a half decent seat somewhere else in F1.

McLaren's procrastination isn't exactly helpful.

Thankfully it would have worked out the same with or without double points even if Massa had caught and passed Rosberg for the win which in the event could have been well on the cards.

No chance, all seats are gone. Probably will pop up in WEC though, which is almost as good.

(some would argue better..)

Shame if true. Jenson was good for the sport. Agree about WEC though.

In fairness, it has happened to Lewis quite a few times this season. He has certainly had the lion's share of the unreliability and slow pit stops in the Mercedes team this year so I guess that this happening to Rosberg at the last race evens things up a bit.

Erm, you know that the "equipment suppliers" are competing too, right?

Seemed ridiculous, to me, that people were whining that Andy Murray should get a knighthood for winning Wimbledon.
That's kinda like saying Hamilton should be knighted for winning the Brit GP.

I can't think of any arena other than motor-racing where participants compete in a global series all year with only one possible overall trophy at the end of it all.
That commitment, IMO, is more than any athlete in any other arena makes and that, when you win it, is unquestionably worthy of SPOTY IMO.

Besides, there's been no major running, jumping, throwing things or kicking a ball about this year, has there?

Precisely. Selective memories. Well done to Lewis and Mercedes...and Shuey

A delightful little snippet in the race was the sight of the Lotus mechanics laughing like drains as they watched Maldonados car blazing trackside.

I'm sure they must hate that bus.

I know i don't normally post in this thread but was having a nose and just wanted to agree with you - I'm keeping everything crossed Jenson gets a drive next year. Following his progress was probably the only thing that kept me interested this year because I really couldn't care less about Hamilton.

All that was being said was what happened to Nico in the final race could have happened to Lewis instead and things would have been very different.

And that is undoubtably true, whatever the previous history, and Lewis had had more than an even share of bad luck.

I wanted Lewis to win and thought he deserved to over the season, but saw nothing but true comment above.

I had an interesting chat with somebody who was at AD for the race, sitting at one of the corner complexes. He said that Nico was hammering it to try and close the gap to Lewis, and every time he went past, he was really clattering over the kerbs.

This was a massive different to Hamilton or most of the other drivers who would ride the kerbs at that point while not going fully over them.

So there's the possibility where the malfunction could be down to Rosberg's driving, his choice of lines. All that knocking could have bolloxed the ERS. Of course, that's just a theory. I wonder if Merc will investigate and release the details?

Well the strong rumour is that Brawn is going to come back with Ferrari next year. Ted Kravitz asked Piero Ferrari about it last night and got a very non-committal answer which suggests something is going on. The Italian press certainly think it's a done deal along with Maurizio Arrivabene joining to oversee the commercial side.

Of course that doesn't mean Brawn would join on a short contract and move to VAG but I doubt it.

There was a debate on here during the mid-season break about the eventual top 5. I only bring this up because I was alone in predicting Bottas would figure.

I got the top 2 the wrong way round, admittedly, but I feel pretty good about nailing 4th & 5th!

Silverstone is just one race. At Wimbledon you have to win a succession of matches to claim the title, all against performers with wonderful equipment.
Also Novak Djokovic won the end-of-season title recently following a year long battle. You have to get in the top 8 to qualify by performing through the whole year.
