An exciting race which is unusual for Monaco thanks to the rain. You have to feel sorry for Ricciardo but it was a great drive from Hamilton who finally got some luck and as has been said if Merc had told Rosberg to let Hamilton by earlier the RB pit stop fiasco would most likely not have mattered.

Much better race than 1 expected and it shows who the real racers are rather than the little boy with the fastest car. Daniel is good and there is time. Good to see that Mercedes stop meddling with the engines - well done Louis.

Riccardo made driving errors. Those two lock ups cost him maybe 8 laps of harassing Hamilton which was key to making the ultra soft tyres go off.

Perhapes DR should have been on the soft tyre. The track was green so none of the compounds would giving their best. In those conditions the fastest tyre is often the most durable one.

Handy couple of cut corners for Hamilton when he needed them most.

Just catching up with WSB from Donington Park and thinking the Craner Curves section is a much better piece of racing track than Becketts at Silverstone.

I've previously posted Nico certainly hasn't inherited his dad's car control genes. Anyway, the following clip of his 83 win shows the sort of thing Keke was capable of around Monaco. Some of the crazy angles he gets his Williams into have to be seen to be believed, ie, precision opposite lock high speed powersliding into Casino Square at 7:49. Freeze Frame advised:

In your dreams Nico.

This race made me realize what a travesty it would be if Rosberg becomes world champion this year. Hamilton nearly lapped him for ****s sake.

I can think of 10 drivers on the grid who are better than him.

I'm no fan of Rosberg but the criticism he's getting is a bit much. The guy won the last 3 Monaco GPs and the last 7 races. You don't do that without being a decent driver. He had a very bad day certainly but the pit stop which saw him drop behind Perez & Vettel was not his fault. He's not in the top group of drivers but the idea there are 10 drivers better than him right now is IMO a bit much. If he goes on and wins the DC, beating LH, he'll certainly deserve it. I don't think he will, mind you.

He isn't a natural racer and his car control is nowhere near as good as the best drivers, but In dry, consistent conditions I think Rosberg is pretty quick. He has serious problems though when it's wet, greasy or changeable, conditions the best drivers excel in. He seems incapable of assessing how much grip is available, especially when the level of grip is changing lap by lap.

After Sunday's race Rosberg said his lack of confidence meant he was unable to drive the car anywhere near its limit. Well, at F1 level that is simply inexcusable. Rosberg was so slow that Lewis assumed he must have a problem.

So on that basis it probably would be a travesty if Rosberg won the WDC but he certainly wouldn't be the first to triumph over a superior teammate due to greater luck, reliability etc (ie Scheckter over Gilles 79, Piquet over Mansell 87 to name just 2 examples),

Great race loved it, im a Button fan to the core so barsked in him getting points but also worship t the throne of Alonso, the man can really drive.

Lets get that smile back on Danny.

Lewis is just being a petulant @@@@@ Congrats on winning and all that but why the humiliation of sucking up to Justin Baby Baby Beaver after the podium??????

I enjoyed the whole team on skys work

Montreal this weekend. One of my favourite races on the calendar.

6 races over the next 8 weeks, the busiest 2 months in F1 history! They go from Canada straight to Baku for next weekend - that's a hell of a back-to-back. By the end of July we could see the strain showing and some human error or mechanical unreliability creeping in.

Impressed with the Mclaren pace so far this weekend. In theory this should be one of their worst tracks but they're hovering around the top 10 again. Might be the usual case of the other teams dialing the engine up come qualy but I think there's some genuine pace in this Mclaren now.

I am a Jenson fan also. Daniel will bounce back. Hope Lewis isn't thinking of getting into the pop business!

It seems like he will do that one day but not for a while. Not sure why people were so down on him about Justin. Sounds like those guys have been spending some time together. It's up to them if thats what they want to do. It's got nothing to do with the racing who people are close to and want to hang out with.

Looks like a wet race to come. Interesting to see how Rosberg performs in the conditions.

Well done Hamilton. Nice to see the good natured chat between him and Vettel afterwards. Different atmosphere in that room when Rosburg and Hamilton have to share it!

That 'understeer' certainly benefited Hamilton. I don't think Rosberg locked up at the end - I think his back tyre caught the painted line and lost grip. Great driving by Verstappen to force him out there.

Think we're going to have the same Championship winner again.

Good, Hamilton's a better driver than Rosberg

Rosberg didn't appear to be thinking about car placement all GP. He was only going to pass the red bull by getting down the inside and he just never had the move lined up correctly.

I think he has been in a bad head space since spain.

In 2014, Rosberg left Canada with a 22 pt lead in the WDC. Not looking good for him at the moment!

Yeah I think the WDC is a bit over, kind of was from the start really.

Next year does the body work have to be wider or just the track of the car?
