So none of the stories are putting Mercedes in a bad light or asking questions about why they made the strange decisions??? not exactly glowing publicity.

Exactly annoying moaning hamilton. Some might be saying he did the right thing but some would say he did the right thing regardless of what he did.

Main thing is you are not seeing the our boy was robbed headlines which would be blanket coverage if their righteous indignation was inflamed.

That's because he wasn't robbed though! They're haven't decided to not run with those stories because he's being a bit petulant, there just isn't a story there to run with
If the team had been even more forceful and he allowed Rosberg to pass you would probably see those type of headlines claiming that Merc's were against Hamilton all season & that the engine issues were manufactured by them to get a win for Rosberg & this was the final confirmation etc etc.
As it is, as far as the race goes, Hamilton did exactly the right thing as it seems most drivers have agreed they would do the same. Conversely the only team make a comment on this I've heard is Red Bull saying they would not have imposed an order in this race as it made no sense to do so when both drivers were in with a shot of the WDC and the WCC was already won.

They weren't in that position though, and I bet CH would have told one of his cars to speed up, if there was a possibility of collision or dropping out of a podium place despite Red Bull saying they wouldn't.

A couple of times i've got the feeling Red Bull were coveting Hamilton. Friendly overtures anyway.

Either that or they just want to destabilise Mercedes. Horner is pretty much the most successful political stirrer at the moment.

He's probably the boss in the pit lane that I'd trust least. Although I think a lot of the issues that were evident in the Vet/Web era were as a result of Vet's (self)importance in the team in the eyes of Dietrich Mateschitz. With Vet gone there was more harmony but I fear that Verstappen may well get the kind of support against Ricciardo that Vettel had against Webber. Seems to be Dietrich Mateschitz's project at the moment.

There's a tricky balance when it comes to a team's driver line-up. The simplest solution is to have a clear (even contractual) No1 / No2 driver. It avoids all this 'nonsense' but has the downside of putting all your eggs in one basket so to speak. If you don't have that clear relationship then as a team boss you probably hope it becomes obvious who the No1 driver is over the course of a season. It's easy to say you don't use team orders when one driver is so far ahead of the other. When they're so closely matched that they naturally becomes each other's biggest rivals and therefore risk losing the team points if they fight each other too much that's when it becomes a major issue.

My problem with Mercedes is that actually that has rarely been an issue. They've been so far ahead that winning the CC over the last three seasons has been never in doubt and one or other taking the DC was equally as assured. Over the course of 60 races how many times have Hamilton & Rosberg actually been racing wheel to wheel for any length of time? 10 maybe, plus or minus a couple? How many times have they had an incident of some sort? Belgium, Spain, Austria... maybe a couple of others (Canada, Texas, Bahrain where they came close)? I guess you could argue Mercedes tight control has avoided Spain like incidents on a more frequent basis but I'd argue that it would be better for F1 in general and therefore would have benfitted Mercedes by association if the drivers had been banging wheels and perhaps taking each other off more often.

Bottom line is that Mercedes made winning borring and I don't think it's enhanced their reputation either as an F1 team or a larger corporation in the slightest.

Nico Rosberg has retired. What a strange decision.

Just saw this on twitter.

Didn't see this coming. 😲

You'd think he'd leave it till the new year or something.

Madness, can't be many top replacement drivers free to join either? How about a remarkable comeback for Button for one season.

That about summed it up for me .

I know i'm a casual fan at best, but through following Jenson Button's career i've kept in reasonable touch with the sport to be genuinely shocked by this decision.

Going out on top though I suppose, you can't ask for more than retiring as a world champion.

Really really strange thing to happen!!
Thinks he's done what he wanted, probably fed up with the stigma of not being as good as Hamilton & doesn't want to carry on with that on his shoulders..
He has a young family to go away and enjoy, has made enough money to last a lifetime really.
Interestingly this might only stoke the claims that Merc were rooting for him to win this year as they may have known in the background he was off and wanted to give him the big reward.
It does kinda make it look like he just hasn't got the stomach for another battle against Hamilton though or indeed the likely rise of red Bull going into next year, possibly Ferrari & McLaren too. He could very quickly have gone from being a celebrated Champion to an also-ran very quickly.

Depends. In a lot of people's minds he won simply because he was in the best team and just happened to have a more reliable than his team mate who has always seemed to be the better racer/driver.
By leaving now those doubters will simply say he's bottled the chance to prove them wrong and do it again.

Yup, with immediate effect, wonder what happened there ?

Press event just now, Toto was asked if he tried to change his mind. In the most political way he said no he hadn't but that was based on knowing Nico and knowing his clarity of thought.

Not a strange decision really.

He knew that luck he had this season would never happen again so there's no point perpetually losing to better drivers since he's now world champion.

People like Jenson Button knew it was unlikely he'd ever have another season like his, but he carried on anyway.

That's a real racer.

Not this Rosberg guy.

Well I don't think anyone saw that coming. Certainly a shock decision, question now is who replaces him. The top drivers are all signed up so do they go a bit further down the grid for a replacement. The other alternative is of course go with a rookie driver.

Hulk needs to get onto his agent pronto and cancel that Renault deal. About time he had a decent car to unleash his potential.

Realistically maybe Wehrlein in line for a Mercedes promotion?

Where is the passion??. He is too young retire, he is just giving up. This increases my respect for Lewis, really loves the sport and wants to win.

Whilst it's a surprise, I'm not totally shocked. I expect Rosberg to get involved in other forms of racing like Raikkonen/Villeneuve, he knows he'll be lucky to have year like this again and he probably doesn't need the stress staying in F1 will inevitably inflict with his 'rivalry'.

Unfortunately, that's about as likely as you getting a chocolate teapot for Christmas.
