Looks like smart money is on Bottas to Merc, with Massa having to put a hold on his burger eating plans.

Merc can't withold engines or change the price as Williams have a contract. The advantage of having a Merc engine is becoming less and less and I'm sure Merc won't want to start losing customers to Renault (or Ferrari). They won't use engine supply as leverage. Unless Bottas does a 'Button' I think Merc will have to live with a junior driver for next season.

I wonder if Williams still accept payment with F1 cars, like the 1990 Ferrari 641 that was part of the deal for releasing Jean Alesi?

I'm sure it's still hard-ball tactics but Patrick Head has said Williams should stick to their guns and keep Bottas. Problem is once his head has been turned he'll be hard to keep. I'll be a bit depressed if they bring Massa back when they've got PDR as their reserve driver and in my opinion the perfect alternative.

Didn't he have a terrible time with Mclaren when he last had a drive.

For Williams, Massa is the better option. If reports are to be believed, he has signed a contract that allows Williams to take him on as a driver next season. With the regulation changes Williams need an experienced driver. That could be Bottas or Massa, PDR cant fill that role. Personally I want Mercs to sign Alonso. Its the only thing that would bring me back to F1, for the first few races at least. Otherwise, Iike this season I will probably only watch a few races. |

PDR when he first entered F1, seemed like he had a bright future, however he went downhill pretty fast. In his last season he was at best average. He used to almost drive off the track when people came up to overtake him, so he could let them pass.

Unless there is a miracle, I cannot see Ferrari making a real challenge next as they've admitted the cannot turn the power up like Mercedes can for qualifying. If they cannot do that there is no chance during the race when, if need be Lewis can turn the power up as and when he wants to for a few laps to maintain any gap he has on other drivers. The only real challenge to Mercedes I can see is from Red Bull and that will be on tracks that suit a car with a good aero package, with no long straights like Monaco, Hungary, Spain and Singapore. |

I think that Hamilton, Verstappen and Ricciardo will be the only drivers who have a chance to win the title this year. |

Who knows, the major shift in chassis and tyre regulations may make the Mercedes engine superiority less of an advantage depending which team comes up with the best design solution which has to give Red Bull a good hope. Even Macca may be back in the game if Honda can get somewhere close with their engine upgrades.

It's going to depend on what is done about the trick suspension wither F1 is competitive or not.
