I think they missed a trick. They should have had some guy telling kimi what to say, and him replying, "Leave me alone I know what I am doing!".

So, a while back I mentioned that the worst thing that could happen for Hamilton is that Mercedes could lose interest in F1 and leave him stranded in an uncompetitive team.

I see Norbert Haug has just decided to leave the Merc' F1 programme.

Not sure if he was pushed, or decided to leave. The article I read, said "by mutual agreement". They did have a poor season, so I think he may have been asked to leave. Since he spent 20 odd years with Mercedes, I think it was an amicable departure. Maybe Schumi to step into management?

I think with the amount of money they've just invested in Hamilton you can't really question their commitment.

Mclaren are in all kinds of trouble next year I think... but rumours are that they are going for 2.0 second pit stops as standard... that's flying.

I know the deal they gave Hamilton suggests that they've got big plans for the next 3 years but when a guy like Haug, who's been "Mr Mercedes" in F1 for 2 decades, decides to pull the pin it's not a good sign.

It's kinda like when you had people like Todt, Brawn and Shuey at Ferrari it was the "dream team" but once some of those people decided to step away you just knew that, even if it didn't happen immediately, the "glory days" were over.
And, of course, Kimi scraped the title in 2007 and then it just went downhill after that.

I just have this horrible feeling that a similar thing might be happening at Merc, with Hamilton sat in the middle of it all thinking "Where's my frikkin' championship winning car, man???"

ha, potentially I guess... I think Ferrari are going to walk it next year; the only thing that will keep Red Bull close will be how they manage to "interpret" any of the rules.

I think Alonso's comments about how Ferrari need to "push the boundaries of the technical regulations" ae a bit silly.

He might as well have gone the whole hog and just said "What we need to do is build a car that's faster than everybody elses".

No shit sherlock?

So, Ferrari haven't been trying to do that up to now?

Well, it would explain a lot if they hadn't. I think he means they need to try and look for every possible gap in the regulation to exploit.

Oh yeah, but the same thing applies. Does that mean that Ferrari boffins have previously been deliberately conservative in their designs?
"Oh yeah, we could use hollow drive-shafts and hubs but it's really not cricket so we'll stick to traditional ones"?

The one thing that does occur to me is that maybe Alonso's words were meant for Montezuma's ears?

It's only a while ago that he was whining that F1 should return to being more about traditional mechanical engineering and engine power, rather than being about aero'.
Not sure I want F1 to become Indycar but I digress.

Maybe Alonso was trying to get the message across to Monte' that they need to accept F1 for what it is and stop wishing it was something else?

I doubt that very much. Mclaren will have a car that will challenge for race wins. I would be very surprised if they didnt finish in the top 3 for the constructors championship.

Agree with you, with very little regulation changes for next year, you can bet Newey will develop a car, that is better than the rest. I would be very surprised if that wasnt the case.

I got a feeling it will be a lot easier than this season for Redbull.

completely agree... but no one is really challenging the established 3 at the minute... Lotus maybe. They'll be some way back in 3rd.

So no Kobayashi next season, he has given up hope for this year but plans on using the £6.5 million raised to get a drive in 2014. I wish I had fans like that!

If Redbull are dominant again next season (and although they struggled at the beginning of the year, they pulled it back mid/2nd half of the season), then I have to think it's going to start to damage the sport (as probably Schumi/Ferrari dominance did).

I read that, surprised that he is not paying the money back since he failed to secure a drive. Very nice pay for kumi

Hmm, it depends on the races to be honest. If they are all close races then it ownt matter as much. If he just runs of from pole and hides, then yes I would agree, it wont be ideal. Although his supporters wont mind. We had two very good races this year, I doubt we get anything as exciting for a good while.

I read that, but didnt read anywhere he wasnt paying the money back. Where did you read that?

Sorry for the late reply, I am a nightshifter,

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/104861

But despite raising almost 8 million euros, Kobayashi wrote on his website on Monday night that it was not enough to earn him a drive for 2013, and his focus was now on making a return in 2014.

"I was in the position to bring a budget of 8 million Euro at least," wrote Kobayashi about the big support he had received from fans.

"If you could imagine the time I had, it was [an] overwhelming reaction and it shows there still is a great potential from Japanese companies.

"Unfortunately, the time was still short and I am not able to secure the seat with [a] competitive F1 team for 2013.

"I have to admit that it is very sad and [i] feel sorry for fans and Japanese companies who supported me. But I am still confident to make it happen in 2014."

Kobayashi said the money that had been raised would be saved for his 2014 efforts, and made it clear that he was not interested in racing in any category other than F1.

"I start to look [at] what is the best option for 2013 and also 2014," he said. "My main priority is to secure the competitive F1 seat in 2014. I have no interests to race any other categories.

"I will make an announcement as soon as I make a decision for 2013."

Can't say I am over enthused. Surely they could of found someone who had some F1 pedigree rather than MotoGP.

She has more pedigree than Jake ever did. She's heavily embedded in motor sport in general. She knows her stuff.

Good choice I think.

Yes, you dont need to be an ex-driver to ask Eddie and DC questions and link-up segments.

I dont dislike her and thats all I can ask when presenting jobs change hands

Err, like Jake, who I actually thought did a really good job.

I liked what I saw of her in MotoGP and she is clearly well into motor sport generally. So should bring knowledge, enthusiam and presenting ability.

Looks a good choice to me.

Lost her gig on the Gadget show in favour of a younger model so has worked out well for her - tho I can't imagine Lee Mckenzie is too impressed at all about the decision...catfight!!
