McLaren didn't mess up, button did he tried to create to big a gap to the car in front. Somewhat embarrassing mistake by button.

Di Rests would win the moan of, but button isn't too far behind.
But they still had him out last in the queue, if he'd been in front he could have created gaps and got a decent lap in within the time. The team have to take some of the blame for being slow off the mark when the queue in the pit lane started forming.

Di Resta really needs to watch what he says in public, he's coming across as a bit of a whiner and that's going to get the team on his side. If he wants a big team drive in the future his attitude needs to start improving, quickly.

And surely Grosjean's on his last chance now? Let's see what he can do from 22nd, but there really wasn't an excuse for such a poor qualifying given Raikkonen's again in the top ten.

Yeah, looked like he made a big error from the replays (hadn't seen them when I posted). It looked like there was enough of a gap opened up for him to make it, he just got it wrong.

May I just ask a question, what happens if someone gets a grid penalty of a few places, but qualifies in last place, thus the penalty cannot be applied, is it carried over until the next race?

Nope.

In the case of what happened to Grosjean yesterday I suppose there might be a case for demoting him from 19th to 22nd today and then carrying over another 7-place grid penalty to the next race but, meh.

I guess it's a bit like a red-card in football.
If somebody gets a red-card just after kick-off it could be argued that they have, effectively, been given a harsher penalty than somebody who gets a red-card 10 minutes before the end of the game.

I guess the people who govern the sports just think that a single penalty is sufficient punishment for a given offence and that if a harsher punishment was warranted they'd have imposed a different kind of penalty for the offence.

Yeah, they have the potential for a harsher penalty if they want, they banned him for a race last year (I'm still annoyed Maldonado got away with so much last year)

I can soon see Lewis getting pee'd off with an under performing Mercedes next year so I wouldn't be surprised if he only stays a year and engineers a release. Though I think a berth at Red Bull could be just as likely in the future as a return to Mclaren.
Why would he want to move down the grid like that. Mclaren have no sponsors and the road cars are bleeding money. Likely the onlt way is down for them like Williams.

It's so sad to see how far Williams have gone backwards over the years. They used to be competitive with the front runners. Now they're amongst the backmarkers.

Vettel so close to crashing there. It would be a real shame if he were to crash...

I distance myself from that comment.

I wonder how long Hamilton will stay out for.

Wouldn't be a shame at all, in fact it would make the race for the win exciting, it's turning into yet another Vettel snoozefest

Middle of the pack is much more exciting, glad the TV pictures are focusing on it. Massa is by far the best driver out there at the minute with the amount of overtaking he's doing, I'd much rather he won, though obviously that won't happen.

On a completely unrelated note, the BBC coverage is so bad these days - Suzi Perry is such a bad presenter, she doesn't even seem to listen to what interviewees say - she asked Clare Williams (I think it was) about the weather when Clare had just mentioned it! And it always just seems so awkward between Suzi, DC and EJ, it's cringeworthy to watch. Ben Edwards and DC are fine in commentary, especially with Gary Anderson and the pit lane reporters, but the presenting team just doesn't work anymore.

I wonder if Raikkonen will be given a punishment for holding Vettel up?

I don't think he held him up for long enough. I saw a couple of blue flags.

Van de Garde should be given a penalty though.

Edit: and he is given a penalty, a 10 second stop/go. Right call.

He was held up for three seconds trying to overtake Raikonnen and Botthas.

Van de Garde will definitely be given a penalty.
