The team did get behind Webber, by telling Vettel to stay behind. Its not the teams fault if Vettel didnt listen.
I hope they go for Kimi. A Vettel/Kimi would be an awesome team. Not so keen on Alonso. I am not a fan of Alonso, just dont like him, hes way to dodgy for my liking. Kimi or Alonso would be something that Vettel needs, if he tried that move like he did in Malaysia on Kimi or Alonso I think all hell would break loose. |

But the team pretty much brushed it off which is why I think Webber has been on a loser for a while.

However I do agree they couldnt have come down to hard on Vettel. He is the guy that wins the championship, so there is some man management that Horner would have had to do. What do you mean by all hell would break loose? |

Kimi or Alonso would have put up more of a fight and most probably both Red Bulls would have gone off the track. We know that Vettel doesn't like being told what to do and prior to his move on Webber in Malaysia he told the team to get Webber out of the way as he was too slow in Vettel's opinion.
As I said Vettel needs the challenge of someone who is going to challenge him for pole and the race, he has had it quite easy of late to be honest and that's no disrespect to Webber at all. So if RBR go and get somebody who will push Vettel all the way and some more, will Vettel welcome it or will it be a bitter taste for him when he realises that he is not necessarily the fastest driver at RBR. |

Hamilton gets mocked on Twitter.
http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/187613...-photo-of-dog? At it again with the stupid dog. BTW did anybody else think that the Nicole Shwertsinger off again on again was fake to keep him in the press over the summer break? |

So if RBR go and get somebody who will push Vettel all the way and some more, will Vettel welcome it or will it be a bitter taste for him when he realises that he is not necessarily the fastest driver at RBR. There's a good quote from Martin Brundle (I think) where he says one of Senna's gifts was the ability to see how things would work out and then he could put himself in a position where it's then up to the other driver to decide whether to yield or to get into a crash. I suspect Vettel thinks that's what he's doing but he does it much more clumsily. He doesn't move into a position that means the other driver will have to decide whether to yield or crash. He makes moves which forces other drivers to avoid him instead. I can't recall who it was who said it (Schuey or Senna, perhaps?) but somebody once said that if you yield to another driver once then you set a precedent and, from then on, both of those drivers will expect the other to act in the same way in future incidents. The trouble at RBR is that the status quo has long-since been established and Vettel's ego has been reinforced as a result. It'd be interesting to see what happens when, with Kimi as a team-mate, Vettel attempts one of his trademark swerves away from the lights and just drives straight into the side of his team-mate and takes both cars out of the race. Frankly, that should have happened a LONG time ago in order to cure Vettel of that habit. |

Looks like Kimi isnt going to RBR.
![]() I hope this story isnt true. He would have been an ideal driver to partner Vettel. |

Being F1, I'm trying to imagine how Raikkonen's people might gain some advantage by announcing this prior to re-opening negotiations. Perhaps they might be trying to lure other candidates out into the open? I do kind of worry that if Ricciardo gets the seat he'll be so grateful that he'll happily play 2nd-fiddle to Vettel (even if only for a short time) and, as I said above, that'll create a status quo where the team consolidates even more around Vettel. It'll be a great opportunity for Ricciardo but I hope he's got the guts to go head to head with Vettel the same way that Perez has with Button. |

If Webber couldnt consistently get close to Vettel, I dont think Ricciardo will either. Thus dont think there will be a need for him second fiddle, as he wont have skill to challenge Vettel. However I do agree, Ricciardo will be happy to play second fiddle, certainly more than Kimi would have been. However I think it a moot point. If talks have failed between Kimi and RBR, it would be interesting to know for what reason they broke down. |

With it being Kimi, probably sponsorship, marketing, promotion commitments, or being number 2 to Vettel.
I mean, RBR have always denied having that sort of policy and Kimi is the sort of fella who is likely to make that public at some point so they'd be asking for trouble to offer him that kind of contract. I'd be very disappointed in Kimi if it was down to cash. He's already "retired" once so, like Alonso, he's probably in a position where he's more interested in another WDC than another few million in his bank account. Normally I'd say that RBR were being a bit daft to reject Kimi on the grounds that he's not interested in doing track-days with Tom Cruise or driving around F1 circuits in a van full of fizzy pop but, in this case, they've already got one perfectly good champion in Vettel so I suppose then are in a position where they could walk away if Kimi isn't prepared to do that stuff. |

Might sound a bit convoluted but I can't imagine RBR asking Kimi to be an official #2.

Well, no, but there's a difference between official line and reality. Maybe Kimi didn't like how much the team is obviously built around Vettel as things like that take time to undo...

The team is built around the guy that wins the races, which in this case happens to be Vettel. If kimi joined and was leading Vettel in the championship, they would quite quickly get behind Kimi. I dont think they would build the team around a driver that was behind his team mate.

Whole nation in prayer for Hamiltons dog. Daily life in Britain stopped for a moment today with the sad news that Lewis Hamilton's dog is sick.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/for...rand-Prix.html Everybody say a prayer for the little guy he needs all the help he can get. |

If Raikkonen is really that convinced Vettel will always be favoured at RBR then, sure, he might not want to drive for them but if that's the case why even bother to enter into negotiations at all? Interesting developments regarding Raikkonen going back to Ferrari next year. This is the same guy who Ferrari payed to sit at home for a year because they wanted Alonso in the car, along with Massa, instead of him and now they're going to hire him to replace Massa? Are Ferrari and Montezuma (as well as Kimi himself) really going to be able to overlook all the previous palava in order to re-hire him to replace Massa? Raikkonen really is good at bringing out the best in a car, sometimes at least, but I fear his attitude toward F1 might mean he's gradually going to make himself unemployable, which'd probably be a shame for both him and the teams which could use him. |

Have you ever looked at the pets forum on DS? It's full of people posting about similar things. Do you think famous people have some kind of duty to remain private and aloof and not get involved with social media in the same way the rest of us do? Personally, I kinda like it when celeb's actually use social media the way the rest of us do, rather than just using it as a tool for publicity. |

Yeah but what we're considering here is why a contract negotiation might have broken down rather than just what "might" happen unofficially.

Roscoe is as much an F1 personality as Lewis if not more so I don't think he has to be consigned to the pets forum. I thought everybody likes dogs.

You're missing my point about ingrained culture though. Things like that take time to undo, even in F1, and Kimi would want a strong team behind him from day 1.

Would it be that difficult to change the culture? Each driver has his own engineer and team. Each team is geared to help their driver with what they will require, to get the most out of a weekend. I guess the there will be a transitional phase (if Kimi consistently beats Vettel), however over time there will be a shift. People outside of the team like Marko may not change, however how much influence does he have on the day to day running of the team? Would it mater if he still touted Vettel as the number 1 driver?
Marko et al may not have much day-to-day influence, but don't underestimate the importance of overall influence, and the power of pressure. If they want Vettel to remain absolute number 1, he will. And that might not be to Raikkonen's liking. |
