Recommend a new boxset
The other half and I haven't been able to start on a new show for a good few years, aside from Homeland (caught the pilot -- had to make the time each week from then on because it wasn't to be missed). But in the past we've always loved our cosy boxset nights and we have some time coming up over the holiday season now. Only thing is we have no idea what to choose!
It's been about five years since we've sat and watched a full series of something, so any show in that timeframe would be awesome. We'd like something that's at least a couple of seasons into its run, so that we have plenty to sink our teeth into. Shows we've seen bits of (sometimes full seasons here and there) and aren't really interested in continuing: Procedural shows -- eg. CSI, Law & Order, etc. Fringe Lost Dexter Vampire Diaries True Blood Desperate Housewives We're also not looking for sitcoms (HIMYM, Big Bang, etc) or, if anyone was inclined to recommend it, the show Supernatural (because it's the only show I watch religiously and therefore I have it covered -- even if it's crap these days). So what show would you recommend? Aside from those listed above, we're open to anything -- any genre. Drama, thriller, crime, paranormal, etc. Many thanks! |

If you can overlook the fact that it has been cancelled and left hanging after season 2 ( unless the producers follow through on their suggestion of a wrap up mini-movie which I think is unlikely. I can't see that TV network supporting it having pulled the plug on the series due to lack of audience ).
For the record, I enjoyed it but am frustrated that there's no conclusion |

Something I always recommend is Generation Kill. Yes, it's military but it's not a lot of action. And at just 7 episodes it's short enough to get through in a couple of days.
Game of Thrones is excellent. or for a bit of sci-fi, BSG. |

I would recommend either The Walking Dead, its current third season has just been amazing, or The Good Wife, which is currently airing its fourth season in the States

The X files
There are nine seasons and two films, but you can buy the complete collection for as cheap as £50 quid. Looking at your list, you listed Fringe and Fringe is very much this generation's answer to The X files so that may help. |

I watched and really enjoyed eight seasons of Grey's Anatomy recently. Also, it sounds like you may enjoy Bones.

I am getting ideas from this thread as well. The suggestions I would make based on what I have seen would have been Dexter and Lost so my suggestions might not appeal to you. I thoroughly enjoyed 24 and The Wire (more like an epic novel -you sort of have to work at it a bit). Enjoying Dexter, I also enjoyed Six feet Under. I am into third season of West Wing. Homeland excellent. Mean at some time to get back into Broadwalk Empire. Will at some point get back into Damages. Slightly trivial but I rather enjoy Revenge and Once upon a Time. Madmen very classy.
I have not seen The Sopranos or Breaking Bad but from comments here and elsewhere feel they are shows for me. |

I'd recommend The Bronx is Burning
It's something a bit different as it's about baseball, but your really don't need to know anything about it or even be interested to enjoy the show Probably the best sporting series I have ever seen although that isn't saying much. John Turturro is brilliant in it. |
