'It might be you!' clarification
strictlylicious
26-11-2012
Phillip Schofield mentioned on This Morning today that 'last night the bottom two really were the bottom 2'.

In other words as some thought on here, the 'It might be you!' obviously contains the person at the bottom of the vote, but as happened with Mark last year, the person who doesn't go is not necessarily the 2nd bottom.

Thought so - no way David was bottom 2 when they announce him as 'It might be you'. As with Mark probably his vote had dipped and this is a way of getting the fan base motivated to vote (and also cause a bit of 'Oh my God how is he in the bottom 2!' type drama reaction from the public.

Well spotted.

9 times out of 10 it is the bottom 2 though, as revealed when they release the voting figures. I agree that it's doubtful David was B2 though, especially after an episode where he did a trial and got a lot of screentime.

I always thought that the "it might be you" meant bottom 2?

Hi Sarah. It used to but last year when Mark was 3rd out of 6 in the vote they included him in the 'It might be you!'. You may well remember it.
When voting figures were released it showed he was nowhere the bottom 2, but for the first time he was out of the top 2 in the vote - they probably did it to push his vote back up - as I suspected they did the other night with David

When Ant and Dec say 'in no particular order' I took it to mean that was including the other 'it might be you' person. I'm also sure it has been mentioned more than once previously that it wasn't the bottom two.

Yeah, I think it's obvious that it means that the two 'might be' ones got the least votes.

Edit: Oh well, I thought it did.

Moving slightly away from the subject, I find it daft that viewers are meant to feel suspense and the saved contestants act surprised in the following kind of situation:

"David...it's not you."
"Rosemary...It might be you."
"Ashley...it's not you." - she acts surprised and pleased

You'd think that Ashley would realise that if a contestant before her has been told they're one of the two up for elimination and there are still results to come after hers, she's safe.

'It might be you' means bottom 2 about 90% of the time

Occasionally the contestant who stays isn't bottom 2 ( e.g. once per series)

You're the 2nd person to say this. It's a weird thing to do if that's how they do it. Why would they do this?

I don't trust the "might be you thing" at all.
If it's false even once then it's obviously not bound by any set rules and is solely designed to get voters voting.

I had a quick look through the Wikipedia pages earlier and the example with Mark last year was the only one I found. There were no percentages for Series 1, 2, 4 and 6 though and the table is messed up for Series 7. But for the other series, the two named in the bottom two were always the bottom two, unless I missed something.

Last year's Wikipedia page (note Day 18):

Yes, it only takes once and the fact that that happened in the most recent series could indicate a change in direction.

Maybe to influence the voting in a direction they want?

The 90% figure goes off past seasons, who knows they could decide to change it up this season

Thank you I didn't realise that
