Grand Hotel - Sky Arts 2
Billed as the "Spanish Downton Abbey". Is anybody watching this?
I have to say I am enthralled. Even the subtitles don't put me off. I'm not so sure I would say its the Spanish Downton Abbey but as a period drama its great. |

I watched the first, excellent. Second tonight!!
I can see a UK channel picking this up for an English language version, as the Spanish have done with Doc Martin. |

Yes dk500 and mab-scatt
I am thoroughly enjoying this spanish offering.I was ready with the 'rolling eyes' when Julio was told to lose his second fight which would have meant his dippy room-mate losing his engagement ring money with probably his first ever bet on anything .Was pleasantly surprised when J did the switcheroo and left Lord Alky and his bent bookie/tavern owner pal paying out the locals. The women are pretty odious too with the exception of the blonde one and I really don't mind suspending belief now and again, like with the non-baby before it is to be substituted by the unwanted baby. Looks like the Spanish Poirot is going to shake things up,I like him already. |

I missed episode 1 but saw episode2 last night.I thoroughly enjoyed it, once I discovered who was related to who. Each episode is shown about 3times during the week. You just have to search the programme guide on SkyArts 2 website.

So pleased I am not the only one enjoying this! I recorded it after seeing a trailer but somehow not realising it was in spanish with subtitles!
After watching a few foreign dramas with subtitles I've realised i probably enjoy them more, not least because I have to concentrate and really watch them properly, rather than flicking to my phone/ipad etc at the same time as listening... I can't wait for episode 3 now though. |

I turned it off when I realized it was in Spanish and not English.

Loving this programme, I can't get enough of it.
Any ideas if Sky will be airing the second series? |

Well,it doesn't seem like many were impressed this week although I quite enjoyed it.
I hadn't expected the receptionist fellow to be so up to his neck in it and the arrival of the shrewd Marqesa is interesting.I think Mrs Grand Hotel's going to come off second best there. The detective wasn't in it much this week so that was a disappointment. Julio's going to have to do some work soon,in two weeks I've seen him carrying two trays. The boss of the maids is in a competition with the hotel owner to see which one is the most twisted.Don Diego hasn't got long before his collar is felt and Lord Alky will screw up again for sure. All still bubbling up nicely. |

Glad to see I'm not the only person watching this and enjoying it!
There has only been one not so great episode so far, when Julio spent half the episode going round the hotel questioning people, and the other half sneaking in rooms and searching. It's like Downton on steroids. |

I'm about to watch episode five (so I haven't read the entire thread!) and had really been enjoying it, but I think last week my tolerance level for cliches and coincidences was exceeded by a country mile.
Really hope this episode doesn't have me going every five minutes or I may give the rest of the series a miss.

Having just come across this thread, I also enjoy this series. Even more so having just read one of the posts which informed me that there is a season 2!
I sit and watch this and, even if some 'coincidences' that are far fetched stretch credibility, still find the story great entertainment. |

I'm loving this programme despite the subtitles. There is so much going on. As someone already said, it's like Downton on steroids.

Excellent series; really enjoyed it and I hope Sky show Series 2 ASAP.
The fingerprint scene in the last episode was pure comedy genius. And my Spanish is improving rapidly. |

Recorded the final episode last night. I must say I've enjoyed it even though it's stretched credibility a little bit, but it's been very entertaining. There have been touches of humour at times too. I like the Inspector
It's been an enjoyable, farcical romp I think series 2 could be steamier I had a look at the programme website and saw some pics can't spoil it for anyone as my GCSE Spanish is a bit rusty so could only grasp the odd word or two!

For people who like Euro drama, the French series Maison Close is being repeated at the moment on Sky Arts 1. It's set in a brothel, not quite the Grand Hotel
What with Borgen on BBC4, Romanzo Criminale and French comedy Hard (both Sky Arts1), there are a few good subtitled shows at the moment.

Montalbano - I don't know why I'm so addicted to it, and at times it's so bad it's hilarious, but I love it. I've looked at the Spanish website for series 2 of Grand Hotel too, yep it def looks as though there's a lot more sex!
