Dumb thread. Was shown before the Charlie situation and before they knew of the family being there.

To be fair to the OP, we knew that Charlies daughter was behind the door, so we were "in on it" when he made that comment, which can blur your vision and recolection. If we didn't know that family members were behind the doors, the sequence of events would resonate more clearly.

Also when things are in close sequence, it's easier to get muddled, especially when the subject is emotive and even more so when you are in the know.

I did have a kneejerk reaction of "jerk" when he said it, but immediately cottoned "oh he doesn't know yet".

But yes the OP is wrong. It does show something though, that he isn't that savvy. You notice certain characters are more careful about what they say or don't put themselves into situations so easily; because they are media savvy and know that things can be misrepresented (either intentionally or accidentally).

It's irrelevant.
I repeat.... he needs to mature and learn some compassion. He is selfish rude and arrogant. He also has many good qualities, but there should be no denying he has some way to go before he is as good and decent a man as he could be.

Liking a person doesn't mean ignoring their bad points, or it shouldn't.
And supporting a person on a forum should not require making irrelevant excuses or compromising ones principles.

exactly! i can't believe some people took him seriously and 'have lost all respect for him' etc on the basis of a good-natured joke. good lord.

Why blame Hugo? as I remember it was your beloved Ashley that also made the joint decision to eat it and tell the others. Not that I have anything against Ashley, but fair is fair.

It seemed he intended a joke, although it appeared far from good natured, more a bit of gloating.

I haven't lost all respect for him and I haven't seen anyone saying so.

And some will find any excuse to explain away a gloating eye-rolling aside.

Not explain away, it is fact that it was shown before Rosemary and David came back.
Ashley was interviewed twice, easier to spot because her hair is up in one and down in the other. She had a pre finding out about family and post finding out about family reaction.
There has been and there will be prejudice surrounding Hugo for his posh upbringing. Nadine planted those seeds early on and the equally posh Rosemary continued it.
He made a joke but some will crucify him no matter what. Hence the eye rolling.

To be fair many of his fans crucified Rosemary for having a go at him.

I liked Rosemary so yes saw her being a tad out of line and hypocritical considering her own accent and behaviour wasn't exactly perfect but I'd have liked her to stay.
I'm not a Hugo fan really either but have enjoyed him on the show.

An irrelevant 'fact'.

There is no excuse for eyerolling at FM's on here, it's simply rude to be so dismissive. It's the sort of thing that Hugo does that makes him far less admirable than he could be.

Try the x factor forum then, you'll have a field day on there telling off the eye rollers.
I wasn't eye rolling at any one in particular if you read the post, it was a way of showing my frustration at the uproar one comment caused. I think you'll find its a very relevant fact contextually.
DS provide the icon so take it up with them!

How is it relevant? The subject was that he showed no compassion for them getting nothing, he simply gloated. It has exactly nothing to do with whether or not he knew about the opportunity for a family meet up.
You may have confused context in order to defend him, I neither know nor care.
Few things are more irrelevant than something that has nothing to do with the topic.

Re eye-rolling
I dont watch Xfactor,
DS may enable the icon, it's use is at FMs discretion.

Then I'll continue to use it at my discretion.
I'm haven't confused the context to defend anyone, I merely found an obvious joke funny as did many others. Humour is subjective I guess.

It was not a nice"good natured" joke it was a gloating remark made in jest.

Its not sufficiently amusing to enjoy. I don't see many people finding it amusing, nope just a tiny few actually.

If I had to misrepresent something to defend it, I would consider that it was not worthy of defence.

Relax?

It's a small matter, I have no further interest.

Why is there an eye rolling smiley available then if there is 'no excuse' for using it - bit redundant don't you think?

I remember watching the show and thinking "oh Hugo you are gonna regret that joke when you realise what she actually lost"

Blaming Hugo for being callous when he did not know what she lost is like blaming Eric for her losing the chance to see her daughter as he picked the wrong door. I.e ridiculous - the fact remains - he did NOT know.

Jokes don't have to be "good natured". If every commedian wen't by that rule they'd be out of a job.
They had the same chance as he did to win a reward, why on earth would he feel compassion?
No-one was mis-representing, several have come from the angle of he was joking about Charlie not seeing her child.
His is a dry sense of humour, not obvious to some nor does it have to be. I just see no need to crucify him over it!

I thought it was funny, wry maybe but I prefer this kind of humour any day to say eg Rosemary being all jolly hockey sticks. Gloating only really works face to face. Hugo gloated in the Hut and wasn't even aware about how evil he was being.

No way would we be discussing this if Charlie's kid hadn't been there which obviously shouldn't reflect badly on Hugo.

Thank you I made a genuine mistake, which, as you pointed out, is very easy to do when watching something. Especially when the viewers are presented with knowledge which the campmates aren't.

Yes, I got muddled up, but it was an innocent mistake and I don't particularly consider this a ''dumb thread'' as someone else said. I didn't make this thread to crucify Hugo, which is what some of his supporters seem to think. I just thought (at the time) that he'd made those comments after he knew about Charlie not seeing her daughter.

(However, I must add, even after realising my mistake I still think his comment wasn't funny at all. But perhaps I just don't understand his sense of humour )

I take back what I said in my initial post though, and although his comment wasn't particularly funny and came across as rather smug, he's clearly not as insensitive as I thought he was.
