Charlies immense popularity does baffle me somewhat though, nice though she is. Charlie hasn't been very visible because Helen was given the public vote trials and then David and Hugo took it in turns to hog them. The producers made Ashley more visible by giving her tasks like the camp meddler one and using her as the narrator alongside Charlie. Eric makes himself noticed by being obnoxious. If they had given Charlie some of Helen or David's trials or some of Ashley's jobs, she would have been more visible, for better or worse.
I wouldn't assume either that being seen wanting her daughter is meant to help her - its as likely people will not vote so they are reunited earlier. Charlie's chance is if she stays the next few days and gets to do some trials and if, if she is popular, the producers decide to leave it as a clear competition at the end where one of them will impress most and win.
