Rosemary with her daughter

When Rosemary met her daughter behind the door in the jungle, she said" Im doing my own washing, can you believe it?" Shes 60yrs olf for goodness sake, who does it at home then. She's not a lot different to helen in that respect.

I was more surprised by David's reaction - he looked a bit awkward around his mother. I was expecting him to whisk her into his arms and give her a big bear hug but it was, to begin with, a pat on the shoulder!

I got the impression that he was a bit embarrassed to suddenly come across her in the middle of a trial. It was a very schoolboyish reaction, but I'm sure she understood.

I get the feeling Rosemary will be very "precious" in her real life.

I took it as "look at me washing my knickers by hand in a bucket of water on telly!" To be fair, thats not something many of us do.

I think your take on all of these "scenes"/events is entirely dictated on whatever your view of the individual. I liked Rosemary so I thought the above ^^, if you don't like her you're more inclined to think spoilt stuck up woman.

Rinse and apply to almost every thread on here

EDIT thats a pretty  post i just typed ... what would I have done with my hours of boredom if everyone applied it lol sorry

My first thought was that perhaps she was referring to her washing machine, as against washing by hand.

Surely all of us spend our money how we want to spend it. I don't tell you how to spend your money do I?

I'm sure he does my son has always given me huge hugs - sometimes to the amusement of his friends but he says to them that he doesn't care, he loves him mom

David being a bit awkward hugging his mum didn't surprise me! Not all families are touchy feely. My daughters wouldn't throw their arms round me but I know they love me and I'm sure davids mum knows he loves her.

My son (at 11 years!) would be much the same, he'd probably say it wasn't a high five moment or something. Mini Deb on the other hand would probably leap into my arms for a big cuddle - they are all different!

Same here, Eve!! Lovely, isn't it?
On the other hand, my younger son is much less demonstrative, but I still think he loves me!!

If that had been my son he would have just looked at me and said "Mother" No hugs or kisses.

Mine too, and I know he loves me. Actually, I thought David's response was endearing.

Isn't one of the nice things about being financially solvent that you can pay to avoid doing the tasks you hate? Perhaps she has a housekeeper or uses a laundry service. And why not?

Me too.
Also, I can think of several friends who would say something similar because they are not naturally domesticated. NOT because they have a maid

Quite.

Better than some exaggerated response for the benefit of show.

I know a woman who's grown daughter is very overly affectionate, and says how she loves "Mumma" but it's all in her own interests. She's a selfish brat and her snobbish idiotic mother spoils and indulges her. They remind me of Mrs Olsen and Nelly from Little House on the Prairie.

I'd rather have Davids quiet affection

Agree.
When I'm working a lot I have a housekeeper. I loath housework and ironing especially so I choose to pay someone to do it. Im not rich but I'd rather spend my money alleviating my need to do unpleasant chores rather than go on holiday to Antigua or drive an expensive car.
