pet insurance question

Have recently had to claim on my cat insurance for the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of feline asthma.

The insurance company have paid the vet direct for part of the claim only.

It's a lifelong condition (well under control now and 1 much improved kitty) and my insurance policy covers the cost of investigation, diagnosis and 'treatment' of the condition, they have paid for everything apart from the cost of the Aerokat inhaler (£110!) as they say this is 'equipment' and not 'treatment'.

My view is that it should be covered as it's not possible to treat the condition without the inhaler.

Any views as to wether this should be covered?

Get your vet nurse to phone the insurers or do a letter, they may well reconsider.

Who is the Insurer ?

It's Animal Friends, they have asked for a letter from the vet to describe exactly what the inhaler is - they were under the impression it was a chamber that little cat goes has too stay in!

The Aerokat inhaler is not medication but a device to assist in the administration of medication.
The insurance company may pay for it but it's also understandable why they may not.

A lot less than £110

I understand why there are saying it is 'equipment', my argument is that it isn't possible to treat the cat without it so if they don't cover it they are not fulfilling their policy obligation to pay for treatment.

I'm waiting for a letter from the vet to send to them so I guess we'll see what they say.

That looks exactly like a paediatric aerochamber for humans.
What a total rip off. I can understand why an insurance company wouldn't pay for it!

That's exactly what it is.

I was gobsmacked when I got the bill, I had to check that it was the only thing they weren't covering. If was 20 quid or so I would just pay for it but I don't really want to fork out over a hundred quid just before Christmas!

Seriously how can they charge £110 for that. Give it a wash and take it back to the vets!

Not really an option as kitty needs her medicine!
