Do you really want to make Simon Cowell richer than he already is by buying Steve's single? Or would you rather feed a starving child in Africa by buying Band Aid 20....

Its your choice....I know what my one is..

Or you could buy both?

You could, but Simon Cowell will still be laughing all the way to the bank. He's already got millions...why give him more?

People who are nearly starving to death are the one's who deserve it.....so BUY BAND AID 20 ON MONDAY!

Oh and don't drink Coca Cola or smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol or wear Nike trainers. Don't buy any record put out by any major record label. Or watch any TV (except BBC, which is publicly funded) but thenyou wouldn't have a TV in the first place as they are made by people like Sony. And don't buy anything from supermarkets.
Or you could buy Steve's single if you like it and give some money to a charity of your choice to assuage your by now rampant guilty conscience. Or have enough intelligence to make your own informed decisions on how to live your lives and make your choices.

And why on earth would you have any interest in the TV programme anyway, or enough to go on a forum devoted to it, knowing that Simon Cowell was involved from the start?

Futile rhetoric.

Eg: Would you rather eat shit than steak? / Would you rather walk to the shops or take the car, crash and die in a ball of flames whilst looking on to see the wreckage of your car crushing an innocent little girl and her dog?

Who cares. Simon Cowell is rolling in millions already, i'm sure buying some more of his artists records won't affect you.

I'm sure most people have bought band aid already, without you coming up with an awful reason as to why they should.

Well said bevheth! I think we have a duty to share our wealth with the poor and needy, and give practical support so that we can build their own wealth. But being realistic, there are very few of us who will give everything they have, and the rest of us won't, so why not be happy with doing something (whilst enjoying themselves) rather than demanding everything

Whenever you buy records , you are lining someone's pocket, same as when you buy anything. I have every intention of buying Steve's single, because I like it and want to buy it. I have already bought the Band aid one, now Steve's single 'Against all Odds' out on Monday the 20th December is the next record I WILL be buying

Hello! I understand what you are saying about Simon, however if people didn't buy Steve's single, it would really only hurt Steve in the end! ...saying that, I personally don' t like the song chosen for release on Monday, but if I did, I would buy it!!! (Will be buying band aid for daughter for christmas, is for a great cause)

a) people can do what they want with their money
b) there's nothing to stop people buying both, and there is not, believe it or not, any direct link between buying Steve's single and the deaths of children in Africa.

I won't be buying either; I'll make a direct donation to charity this Christmas instead of buying any singles (or sending any cards!)

I pay my TV License every year and don't even watch BBC, yet Simon probably spent a lot of money and time making the X Factor and I for one am grateful for him for that. His show has kept me entertained on a Saturday night for weeks and I am not bitter at all about him making a profit. He put in the effort making the show, now he can sit back and reap the rewards, I have no problem with that. Its not a case ot taking money out of the starving Africans mouths, If your gonna buy band aid your gonna buy it and Steve's single isn't gonna change that. I for one can't wait until Monday when I will be first in the queue to buy Steve's single;0)
Somebody is gonna knock band aid off the top eventually and I would like Steve to do it but if he only gets to number 2 I think he will be pleased as punch knowing what he's up against.

Thank you Bev, my feelings exactly. I've already said my feelings on another thread. I don't know if I will buy Steve's single yet but if I want to I will

Thing about that is, if everyone decided to give to charity instead of sending cards what about all the people who rely on the Christmas card industry to make a living? I wouldn't want to see any more people out of work trying to support families. Its a nice idea but its a sort of vicious circle really.

You must be being tongue-in-cheek.

Otherwise: What? Like, if I choose to stop wearing socks, I am putting people who make socks out of a living? Should I buy every product out there as every person who makes those things has to make a living somehow?

The point I am making is about personal choice, not one choice being more "morally right" than another.

I seriously doubt the card business is going to go bust and anyway as I say, it's my money: I'll spend it or not, as a I choose.

But you must have been kidding, right?

Sorry but this is a ridiculous thread. I don't need to be emotionally blackmailed about the 'right thing to do'! I hope the Band Aid single does well, but if people want to also spend money on Steve's single then that's up to them.

I agree.

There are so many worthwhile charities out there. I've bought the band aid single, but I wont be stopping support of charities like Cancer Research and RSPCA and whilst it may sound hard nosed, we must consider our own well being first.

I agree it does seem a bit of a silly thread. I decided to go through a few of the thread starter's older posts to get a better picture of the reason they may have started the thread, and found they are a huge Michelle McManus fan and they loved Verity from X Factor and detest Steve with a passion akin to Sharon Osbourne's. So maybe their thread has nothing to do with Band Aid really, who knows, and that it is just being used as another excuse to bash Steve. Just my opinion though.

Doesn't really matter anyway, as I have bought the Band Aid record and will also be buying Steve's record no matter what

I dont give anything to charity...i prefer to eat my Big Mac and fries (supersized) while listening to steves new single and watching reports of the starving in africa on newsnight, on my plasma screen TV

But thats just how i spend christmas every year ...

Who cares if you're giving Simon more money? The whole competition was about the artists, not the mentors, so surely your decision of whether or not to buy Steve's single should be about whether or not you like Steve? Not about Simon.... Ok you either love or hate Simon, but he has worked very hard to get where he is, he put in a lot of work with Steve and with the show in general, is it so bad if he makes more money? It means he will be back with more talent shows and more artists so that we can all sit in front of the telly and be entertained again.....

Since when did making a lot of money become such a terrible crime? As far as I am aware, we are still living in a capitalist society i.e. one where people receive payment for providing a service. It has never been equitable, if it were then nurses would be paid more than pop stars and footballers, but that's the way it is at the moment so why is it such a crime for Simon Cowell to make money out of the service he has provided? The buying of records is purely voluntary.
