Ok it turns out my cat has been peeing in my neighbours garden in an area where he has stones rather than mud. I dont know why she is attracted to this area.

He brought it to my attention today for the first time i apologised he then said he was putting glass and poison down and it would be a shame to kill her as shes a lovely little cat.

I am now keeping my cat as an indoor cat but there are a large number of other cats in this culdesac (I saw 2 in his garden today), i am worried about them I dont know where they all live to warn their owners.

Would the police laugh at me if I reported this? I am a young female and live on my own so I am kinda worried about this especially if another cat does it during the night and he thinks it was mine!

I think your neighbour is well out of order, it's not illegal to deter cats but putting out poison is unacceptable IMO.

However, you have to be prepared for potential repercussions from said neighbour should he find out you report him. Neighbourhood disputes can be very nasty IME.

Perhaps you could recommend some other ways for you neighbours to deter cats form their garden??

Animal cruelty. I would be calling the Police.

Why deny your cat the outdoor life?

How do you even know it was your cat?

Some people who hate animals just say these things to keep pets indoors.

If one of my neighbours told me they was putting down a deliberate poison because of my cat I would report it to the police and the RSPCA. Thats downright nasty. There are other ways of deterring cats without trying to cause them deliberate harm. Sounds like a complete bully to me, threatening that it would be a shame if your cat died. Report this nasty bully before its too late.

I've considered this carefully in the past; I'd write a note to each of the neighbours advising them collectively to beware of letting any pet stray since your own cat has been threatened. Don't name names, but include your neighbour in the distribution.

This chap is out of order..however he has openly said what he is going to do..think of how many people keep their mouths shut and cowardly put down poison and the likes...there was a spate of cats getting poisoned around here...I do sympathise with none cat owners who have cats visiting their gardens and spraying, peeing and pooing everywhere..I have to admit I have a number of cats come into my garden and certain areas stink..annoys me because often it is against or close to my little ones garden toys..I dont like the idea of my son going out and playing in cat pee..so I spend my life powerwashing outdoor toys and trying to deter cats..but humanely..not by leaving poison out...my older son loves to attract birds into the garden too and it is annoying to watch other peoples cats stalking them..but I know it is impossible to get everyone to keep their cats indoors..just annoys me those with 3/4/5/6 cats all out wandering..if you want lots of cats..then keep them indoors or spend out on an outdoor run..I have been known to chase, spray with hose, jug of water etc cats that appear in my garden..if an owner was angry with me for doing this then I would state my case.your cat..then keep it in your house...

All this said I do not agree with laying down poison and couldnt sleep at night if I did this.

You should absolutely report him. You could always speak to the RSPCA first and ask them what you should do.

Your neighbour needs to get a life. Animals, whether they be domestic or wild, are going to use gardens for that sort of thing. At least it wasn't a human that was doing the business, imagine what his reaction would be for that!

Report him to the police. It won't just be cats effected but birds and foxes and badgers.

This sounds like the best idea, and keep the cat indoors. I personally wouldn't report him because if he found out I'd have to worry about bricks through the windows etc as well as the danger to my cat.

This isn't aimed at you, but why the bloody hell should the cat have to now become an indoor cat because of one moron living in the street. If the OP wants her cats to have the choice to go outside then she should be allowed to do that.

This idiot needs to be reported. If it was a child he was threatening to harm action would be taken, so why are peoples pets any different.

Plus if there is any comeback, or the OP is worried about any comeback she should tell the authorities that at the time, and then action can be taken.

I would let the RSPCA know about these threats before any animals come to any harm. They will probably warn him. Please don.t let him get away with this.

There is a cat repellant that the RSPCA will advise him to use.

The op should definitely report him. If it was me and he said the same thing, I would warn him that he will be reported.

Well that's just what I would probably do, because anyone capable of hurting someone's pet is just as capable of hurting a person and isn't someone I'd want to get on the wrong side of. Obviously it'd be better if the cat doesn't have to stay inside though.

Whilst I dont agree with his poisoning cats..I do sympathise with people whose gardens are soiled and invaded by cats..cats are not wild animals they are pets and should be taken care of..so I am sorry but if your cat came into my garden you should expect it to come home having been chased or possibly soaked by my hosepipe..sorry but sick of them spraying, peeing and shitting in my garden..I wouldnt hurt any animal but I certainly deter them coming again..however many times to scare or wet them it takes..would you like it if I sent my 5 year old son to shit in your garden?

Soaking it with a hosepipe is hardly the same as murdering it.

to be fair I didnt actually send the cat to shit in his garden. I had no idea!

cats do spend an awful lot of time covering up their business with earth so they are not detected. this is only a problem because of the stones area. I did feel bad about it and said i was going to keep an eye on her until he made the threat.

Don't be so ridiculous. It's completely different. Like I say....pure ignorance. If you (or anyone)sprayed my cats or upset them in any way, shape or form there would be consequences.

I think you should definitely report your neighbour to the police. Your cat will be must safer in general as an indoor cat, so I think that's a good decision as well.

Consequences?

Like what?

I can imagine the reaction that you'd get from the police if you reported that someone had sprayed your cat with water!
