Any bits of gravel where we live are used by cats as a giant litter tray and what really pisses me off is that it's not even my cat, she has a litter tray and would rather come in and use it than do it outside. I know because she has been outside and she comes in and goes and uses the litter tray straight away. And don't get me started on people who leave their cat outside all the time, for 3 whole hours yesterday morning I was kept awake by a neighbours cat who had been left outside all night and wanted to come in so he spent 3 hours meowing at the open window and the neighbour ignored him. I nearly went and let him into our place.”
You are right about the smell..we have 2 woodburning stoves and now and again my husband brings in a basket of wood and I say what is that smell..and it is definitely cat spray..we have now had to enclose our wood store entirely so cats cant get in..but it isnt as good as it doesnt dry out the wood like an open store..
I do not oppose cats at all..I go into peoples homes and if they have a cat you can guarantee they come straight to me..but there is a difference to visiting someone who has cats in their own home and having several cats come into your garden daily and do their business..we actually put poison down in our woodshed because wood is left in the same place for a long time to dry and left undisturbed we feel attracts mice..so we deal with that problem..BUT it is always in my mind to ensure any poison put down is in a shed or building where cats cant get access..as much as I dont like cats pooing in my garden I wouldnt put down poison where they could get to it..
I do agree that anyone who puts down poison intentionally for cats should be prosecuted..but I think those who are saying they would get upset at a neighbour if they squirted their cat if it wandered into the neighbours garden need to accept that this is far preferable than the alternative..if a neighbour was threatened because they squirted a cat to deter it..then they may see their only alternative as taking it further..not right but quite possibly what would happen.
