I doubt he would be. However, there is a glaringly obvious error in using such an analogy. Cats don't know it is wrong, humans clearly would.

Not very good to use wild animals as an excuse for humans allowing domestic pets to defecate everywhere

Who allows them outside? If it wasnt for humans they would not even be here, they are domestic pets

Baiting other posters is against the rules aswell. Are you aware of that?

Any educated, decent and considerate human being would offer to provide deterrents for a neighbour who had an ongoing problem with their cats, instead of hiding behind the law

you put stuff like lazy cat owners a fair bit, I've read it. But any way, some posters seem to have problems with their neighbours, and they would probably still have problems with their neighbours whether the neighbours had cats or not, I dont think its got much to do with cats really. If someone were to do something to a cat, how would they dispose of the body. Leave it to the council to clean up, and the owners would get all the details that it had been poisoned. Bury it, someone might see, owners could find out. Put it in car hidden in a blanket, someone might see. Also, if someone has deliberately hurt someones cat, I think they could assume that the owners might loose it.

I am now keeping my cat as an indoor cat but there are a large number of other cats in this culdesac (I saw 2 in his garden today), i am worried about them I dont know where they all live to warn their owners.

Would the police laugh at me if I reported this? I am a young female and live on my own so I am kinda worried about this especially if another cat does it during the night and he thinks it was mine!”

And what's a pretty young female like yourself doing living on her own? Would you like me to sort your neighbour out, my sugarplum?

Also it may NOT be their cats doing it all the time. It is up to the owner of the garden to include deterrents for their garden if they do not want animals to go in their garden. I didn't put down gravel in my front garden as I knew it would become the neighbourhood litter tray.

I don't want people coming into my back garden so I put up decent fences and a gate. If I didn't want cats or foxes I would put up things to deter them. I don't expect my neighbours to do it for me.

I once knew someone who threatened to kill someones cat as it was "pooing on their path".

Turned out to be the hedgehogs they were putting food out for.

as i said that was the first time he mentioned it. had he told me before i would have cleaned it up and got some deterrent from pets at home

to the person saying the cat wouldnt exist if it wasnt for me, it's a stray i took in four years ago. I dont breed them to pee in peoples gardens!

I would take him seriously. If it were my cat I would keep it inside, second of all I would warn the other cat owners of what he said. Not sure what the police would say but I would let them know. My mum lost a cat to poisoning, not nice.

May i ask are you a cat owner yourself?

Most deterrents are not effective

I would alert the RSPCA AT the very least, pretty sure he can't go around threatening to poison pets.

I am a cat owner. I also have a litter tray inside and they normally use that.

And the neighbours has been using stuff to keep out foxes and other cats out their gardens for donkeys years (way before I moved in).

There are some decent stuff out there, some you have to apply on a regular basis as it's a scent that can wash away when it rains a lot.

BTW, my neighbours love cats, they just don't like poo in their garden. many a time I've come home and my cats are being stroked too death in my neighbours kitchen
