i see the keyboard warriors and pc brigade are out in force....
Indeed. It annoys me when people get outraged over PC issues on behalf of others.

I didn't gasp at Rosemary's use of the word... I rolled my eyes... I stated quite clearly I did not think she was being racist... that doesn't mean I think her choice of word was right.
No you clearly do not understand. And you are arguing disingenuously.

You may not have "gasped" but you reacted to what you know -- like I do, we agree -- was not in any way, shape or form meant to be reminiscent of the hurtful use of the application of "monkey" to David... okay you didn't "gasp", you "rolled your eyes"...

You deny "them" (these "blacks" and "asians") the right to be described as a "monkey" in the purely complimentary sense in which "we" can feel free (and have felt for ages) to attribute to "us".

I'm sorry, but you are not understanding this. If you make an issue of it you lend the whole ridiculous and idiotic hurtful use of the term credence.

You are not understanding.

You are goddamned right. Always out.

Indeed. It annoys me when people get outraged over PC issues on behalf of others.
And you are goddamned welcome to your annoyance. I will always get outraged on the behalf of my brothers and sisters against those who want so to be able to be left alone and "un-annoyed" as they spew about with their precious, stupid, ugly insinuations.

Very happy to annoy you.

I havent read all this thread..I didnt see Rosemary make the comment..but it was clear that Rosemary adored David..she has said repeatedly how much she loved him and what a lovely man he is..if Rosemary made this comment I do not think for one minute it was meant maliciously ..I am not saying she couldnt have picked her words more carefully..but lets get things in perspective here..she was not ranting the comment iin hate like the recent football incident..infact it sounds like it was said in awe of his physique..I would hate the world to become that PC that before speaking to or about anyone of a different colour, religion or race that everyone has to double check in their brain what they are about to say..I am sure it is preferable to everyone that natural, real friendships and relationships are formed between everybody without the need to scrutinise every single comment..

For example a friend may call me a nickname or make a comment about me and I wouldnt take a blind bit of notice..because I know there is no malice..a complete stranger may call me the same name and I would take offence..and this is where commonsense comes into play..

I have 3 children and "little monkey" is something I have called all of them..I have also called their freinds little monkey too..as in come here you little monkeys...not all their friends tick the white British box..and I would still say..Ohh you little monkeys..if I caught them up to mischief..I dont think for one minute I have offended anybody..it wouldnt enter my head to think about every word that came out of my mouth for fear of offending..I have no malice in me toward anyone based on colour..there are people i dont like because of how they are..but just dont get this pussyfooting around..if your feelings in your heart are not biased by colour then when you open your mouth you have nothing to worry about..trying to make an issue out of a comment made by someone else who is obviously smitten with that person is just plain ridiculous.

totally agree, what a ridiculous situation blown out of proportion. Love how the Daily Mail is now quoting DS forum members re: disgust
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...ye-monkey.html
all very silly, bad choice of words by Rosemary on this occasion but I would expect she may have said the same had it been Craig Phillips or similar. PC gone mad, like you can call some one a cheeky monkey but make sure they're not black (or variation of) otherwise you are obviously a racist

Totally agree with you, the PC brigade taking offensive at everything they perceive to be wrong is the fuel for the minority of people who do have real issues with attitude. You can't say this you can't do that because you might cause some imaginary offence to someone. It wasn't done with malice it was done with affection or is Rosemary not allowed to verbalise her affection for David in the way she would for anybody else because she is a different skin colour? It doesn't matter what colour skin you have we all bleed we all cry we all develop affection for others it's got nothing to d with colour or race until the PC brigade jump on board with their holier than thou attitude they are the racists by implying its wrong for Rosemary to display her affection for David in her way.

i feel sorry for rosemary. now she will have to defend herself for making a totally innocent, in fact, rather a sweet, complimentary remark. i can't imagine david could care one little bit but she will be the one to have to justify herself and face criticism.

Yes I do understand... I am quite capable of seeing your point without agreeing... my lack of agreement does not mean I do not understand it means I do not agree... the fact I do not agree does not make me wrong.

The fact that you can take the racially neutral use of the words they/them and apply them to the same context as the word monkey tells me that you are a hypocrite... since you believe all words are equal... some more equal than others apparently... I was using racially neutral language as I don't believe my racial origin has any place in this discussion.

IMO Monkey when used as a descriptive for a black/Asian person is not acceptable... not because the word is racist but because people are ignorant and have turned it into a derogatory connection...

I've listened to the clip on the Daily Mail and I'm sure she actually said 'enormous monkey.' There is a bit of a blip on the word enormous, but it does sound like that (to me) and not 'little.'

Of course I could be wrong.

Is that a good thing? Lol Not the first time I've been in the DM, I wrote to them about their article on letting premature babies die. Having had a premature 25 week baby I was appalled, they printed my letter & photo!
I've also been in when I wrote a reply to an article about Bratz dolls and their influence on young girls, my daughter was never allowed Bratz dolls, again we had a picture. My 15 minutes of fame lolol

Back to rosemary... I didn't mean to start a riot. I was just taken aback. Like I posted previously I would call my niece & nephews who are half Filipino little monkeys with no racial intent whatsoever, however I am not on a national tv show where things can be taken literally.

I couldn't make it out on rewind, but in the paper it's clearer.

Let's hope it's all a storm in a teacup and blows over quickly

But the reactions aren't OTT. I don't think anyone said that they were actually offended.

People just said it was a bloody stupid thing to say, which it was.

I must be completely ignorant..because prior to the recent football incident with the young England team I had never associated the monkey with humans as anything other than someone making mischief..I watched the clip of the football match and heard the chants..which were disgusting.

How this can compare to Rosemary (who clearly idolised David) saying she saw this magnficent sight this enormous monkey..she could have chosen her words better but my first thought would be she meant his big muscles and physique..it wouldnt enter my head that she meant anything at all derogatory about his colour..I think Rosemary would be more distraught than anyone if she felt she had caused any upset to David...I think when David leaves I have no doubt the clip will be shown to hima t some point..I dont think he will think for one minute Rosemary was being offensive..

This PC attitude sometimes drives more of a wedge between people of different colours than if everyone were just left to get on and be friends with who they want to..there will always be extremes either way..but most people just want to get on naturally and not be in fear of saying the wrong thing..

No 'the PCers' as you call them didn't say that she meant it in a racist way at all.

This is a problem with these discussions you will get the other extreme end who want to accuse others of being PC and create a strawman argument to misrepresent what other people said.

Why do these threads always have to tend to go this way? They usually end up becoming two polarized ends. One of which is the end who might shout about being offended and post Ofcom's number for people to complain and get someone into trouble, and then the other end disingenuously shouting 'It's PC gawn mad' and trying to sweep the discussion under the carpet, and exaggerating what other people have said to try to make them look more PC than they actually are.

I thought she said that too. Horrifying !!! Hope it gets picked up on .
Reverse the truck up here.............in the context it was said it was NOT racist. It is also a common phrase to use like cheeky monkey, or little monkey. How utter rediculous. Typical of the PC peeps to pick up on it, blow it all out of proportion and people like you jump on the band waggon
