But it does win awards around the country for being one of the best places for Fish and chips .

i never look at the price of the fish because i don`t eat it but in my village it`s £1.30 for small chips [and i can only eat half] and £1.20 for a pea fritter.

Errrr, not really. Fish doesn't lose it's freshness by travelling 10 miles inland.

That's fair enough, but it's nothing to do with it being by the coast or 10 miles away.

It is distribued frozen so wherever you are in the country you'd be getting the same quality.

In any case that's not what I mean.
I live in a costal town. Chippies just outside of the town centre have the best prices.

On the coast road there are about half a dozen chippies and they are in general more expensive and less generous portions. As I say, they'll be making money from day visitors.”

This is related to chippies and what they do, not what you do.

Are you in your namesake location at the moment?

I watch a few US food shows and some of the fish portions are ridiculous.
One of them had four battered fillets per portion. And these weren't small fillets. I would count them as medium sized.

Asda battered haddock plus maris piper chips plus mushy peas is still under a quid and very good indeed if cooked properly.

Unfortunately fish isn't cheap like it used to be. Most chippies round here don't serve cod as their standard fish any more.

If you can get there, go to "The Railway Tavern" in Dereham Norfolk. I found it by chance coming home from Fakenham Races.
I couldn't believe it, a real Fish and Chip Shop in a Pub. Eat in Large Cod and Chips £5, + 5Pints of lager or bitter in a Jug for a Tenner. What a place and I'm definitely going again.PS I should add F&C were excellent.
