Seriously though, I have been enjoying Jupiter and some very decent views of Orion for a while now.

This reminds me to fire up Stellarium to check what planet was in the SE sky this morning.”

Edit: Venus AND Saturn. Cool.

I'm sad that it could be the last full moon we'll see if the world ends on 21st December.

That is exactly what I thought - it looked quite unreal. Can't remember ever seeing the moon so bright in this city.

The moon tends to be on telly a fair bit too, mostly in drama programmes.

Oh I don't know about that - London has quite a few quality spots for skywatching*, it's just the unusual brightness that really caught my eye.

*Anywhere from the Thames, Alexandra Palace or Primrose Hill being obvious ones, but strangely also parts of York Way or even Angel in Islington. I keep forgetting it's quite uphill.

It's looking very starry outside tonight. A clear sky, the moon shining bright and I assume it's Jupiter to the right side of it?

Yup - but it didn't appear any brighter than I've seen it in the past.
Actually, last night I was evaluating a new pair of large astronomy binoculars, viewing mainly the Moon, and Jupiter right beside it - I'm now waiting for the Moon to fade away a bit so I can try them on some dimmer objects (galaxies, etc)

The Moon can seem very bright at this time of year, by combination of generally more transparant skies in winter, and generally darker nights.

Yup - to the South-west - about 25º to 30º up from the horizon at about 10pm to 11pm
In Pisces, just below the square of Pegasus - but a difficult thing to find unless you know the sky well or have a good star-chart.

Missed it last night but it's clearer tonight so...

Handheld photo, a few minutes ago. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...dheld-2355.jpg

You have to reduce the true brightness otherwise moon photos just white-out.

Yeah, I spotted that after posting Henry.
If I'd taken notice of who started the thread, I'd have twigged right from the off, that you were hoping to lead conspiracy nuts into a trap

I can't wait for 21-12-12, I'm planning to spend quite a bit of time lurking on GLP forum - should be hilarious

I didn't see the moon, but I saw the light on a cloud. It was lovely.

I saw the moon last night and I realise why it's got everyone talking now. Absolutely beautiful.
