Hi New desktop Itunes will be available from 6pm 29.11.12 as they tend to release software updates at start of business hours so should be available from today.

you've made an educated guess based on various rumour site reports. don't try and make it out like you have any "inside information".

also, they did say out by the end of november, so again you've made an educated guess.

Just download Itunes 11, but had to get it through the Apple's software updater.

It looks much better as well.

You usually get the Apple Updater when you install any piece of apple software, check your start menu/page.

I got a software installer update prompt, downloaded and it looks good....it even seems to have fixed the wifi sync bug introduced in 10.7

Even when you specifically tell the installer not to include it...

I'll be curious to see if this fixes the problem I've been having where it crashes if I open it whilst my iPod touch is connected. Seems to have only arisen recently so not sure if its a recent build that has introduced this.

Out of interest does anyone know if this new version still works on XP? Reason I ask is Apple recently dropped support for iTunes under OSX 10.5 which seemed to cause a bit of uproar on various apple boards.

I love the new version. So glad I wasted hours getting my library prepared with all the artwork because it looks fab. Also love that you can now queue songs up, and look at 10 Genius suggestions on any song to queue up too

It looks better than the old one, and is better organised.

I've had some iffy search results, though, where it seems to have had some sort of a fit.

Hate how you can't see the album art whilst on the song tab/list.

I can't get it, because my 2007 MacBook is still running Leopard OSx 10.6.3 and minimum requirements ask for 10.6.8

10.6 is Snow Leopard. Any reason you cannot update?

Anyone else a got virus warning when downloading it? I couldn't install because of some Gen:Variant.Barys.1508 threat in the mini player file.

I pretend to know more than I do about software...

...all I do know is, I definitely cannot get iTunes 11. I've done a software update check from the Apple icon and 'check for updates' within iTunes.
And I know I'm still running Leopard OSx

Ah well... *sigh*

if you're running Leopard then you are 10.5.x
10.6.x is Snow Leopard.

I updated my work mac from 10.5.x to 10.6.8 with no problems. The update is only £25 or so. Depends how badly you want itunes 11!

of course we're at 10.8.x now, so 10.5 is 3 versions old.
even updating to just 10.6 would still leave the mac out of date (albeit able to run iTunes 11).

Apple has always given versions of Mac OS a short lifespan.

Microsoft does the exact opposite with Windows.

As such, companies that make software for Windows (like Apple) can't drop support for Windows XP, purely because hundreds of millions of people are still using it.
