Skyfall Topples Titanic!

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2012-...ox-office-film

Great news. Really hope it earns the extra 4 million to become the biggest grossing UK box office film of all time. All achieved in five weeks without a pair of 3D glasses in sight!

It'll easily do it before it finishes it's theatrical run. Infact, it'll probably overtake Avatar's final UK total by this time next week.

And its done it! A great finish to the 50th year. How long can it keep the UK top slot though? Do you think The Hobbit could steal it's crown in a few weeks?

Are those figures from http://www.25thframe.co.uk/chartspag...ce=ukboxoffice inflation adjusted though? It doesn't look like it and if not they give the wrong impression, for example, Titanic grossed over £115 million ( (inflation adjusted, Bank of England calculator - 2012 inflation not included) so Skyfall's £94 million is still some way behind in real terms.

Do these statistics take into account the rising prices of movie tickets?

Makes you think though - the budget was as estimated $200,000,000. So even the most successful film in UK history wouldn't have generate enough income to break even without US success.

since no one uses ticket number sales, rather the easier tote of monies, there won't ever be a tally of such a thing

but well done to skyfall, been to see it twice already

That's the thing - unless you adjust for inflation, the actual takings mean very little.

In 100 years time, its likely that even relatively poor performing movies will gross more than Titanic.

For example - Titanic took $658 Million in the US in 1997. If released today - it would have to take almost $1 Billion to perform at the same level.

I agree that SkyFall was nowhere near as great as a lot of fans make out. Cannot really understand why so many people think it is the best Bond film or in the top five. In my opinion it was fairly average and as the previous poster said slow in parts. Personally I can think of a good 14 or 15 Bond films that I would rate above it.

I can't believe Titanic was made all those years ago. Still it has had a decent run as the highest grossing film of all time.

Nope, Gone With The Wind is still the highest grossing film of all time when taking inflation into account

I simply find not trying to understand a better option. Its much easier to accept that opinions vary.

I know what you mean though, I cant for the life of me see what is so special about Pixar films although I really admire them for what they have achieved. Its just that their films don't speak to me, totally leave me cold.

Skyfall will never topple Titanic's Worldwide gross of $2,185,372,302.

Skyfall would be lucky to get a quarter of what Titanic achieved.

What, you mean by Titanic's 1997/8 ticket price standards?

I say this because Skyfall's $872m worldwide is already more than a quarter, and it's on course to pass the billion mark once all markets are done.

It's not Titanic for sure, but it will be an advance of $400m on Quantum of Solace.

The whole Bond thing has just gone up a notch, it seems.

A run that ended 3 years ago. Avatar is the one to aim at now.

Be pleased then, it overtook Avatar's final UK total on Wednesday This is only in the UK though, Skyfall won't get anywhere near Avatar or Titanic's worldwide totals ($2.8 billion and $2.2 billion respectively, Skyfall might just squeeze past $1 billion worldwide).
