Sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, courgettes, broad beans, broccoli, aubergines, artichokes, radishes, gin, sweet wine, milk, dark sweet beer, they are the ones that spring instantly to mind.

If I was hungry enough I'd eat anything and if I've gone to someone's house and they've cooked something I dislike I still eat it, but the foods I'm not keen on are eggs, cheese, casserole of any sort, butter beans, water chestnuts, peanuts, cashew nuts, coriander and parsley. Nothing drink wise that I can think of.

Dr Pepper, and green or red peppers.
I think you've just got a phobia about the word pepper.

Nor me. There are things i would rather not eat, but i'd still eat them if they were put in front of me.
There are things you would rather not eat. But would if it was put down in front of you And you say the rest of us are strange.

There are a few things I dislike. Not many. I'm a bit of a foodie. And love to cook, and bake. I read alot of cookbooks, and food blogs. And really enjoy the food and drink forum here, on DS.

But the one big food hate, 'Emperors New Clothes' thing for me personally is....Oysters!! I don't get them. People go on and on about them. I just think it looks like a huge snot. I know it's been said many times before. But it does. And then they tell you that you should just swallow it whole. And not chew it. Like that's supposed to make it irresistible. Anyway, if their so f*cking tasty. How come oyster lovers cover them in lemon and/or tabasco, and then swallow them whole, Because 'that's the right way to eat them', they say. What in one, without chewing or touching the side? What the f*ck's the point then?

Each to their own, obviously. But I've had people look at me like I've just said I would rather eat a small child deep-fried, when I say I don't like oysters. Get over it.

Aaand reeeeelaaaaaax.

What is strange about that? The thread is called 'Food you can't stand'. There are lots of foods I don't particularly like but nothing that i 'can't stand'.

Yeah, My point is you're saying you would eat something you don't like. Why?

I think there's a difference between foods you don't particularly like but would still eat in certain circumstances (such as there is no other choice) and other foods which you'd be unable to put into your mouth for any money and would rather go without.

I travel a lot with work and often find myself in situations where there is nothing on offer that I really like but you still have it anyway to be polite and you'd otherwise starve. Now and then you actually find yourself enjoying something that you didn't think you'd like.

Because sometimes you have no choice. It's fine when you can order off a menu, but that isn't always possible. If I go to a friends for dinner and they give me something I didn't like particularly I could still eat it.

I often try things I don't initially like at a later stage. Your palette can and does change over the course of your life so it's worth trying things again every once in a while.

I couldn't stand mushrooms until I was about 19 then decided I liked them. My parents have never forgiven me.

Exactly - I ( as a veggie) disliked parsnips ( to the point of them causing sickness/ migraine) & beetroot. Now however, I really like them. Tastes do change as we age - my husband is currently determined to win his stomach over in the 'spice wars'. he is improving...slightly.
