Hit Em Up Style

Then of course Masterpiece not being released as a single (especially here) was a terrible move, should have been out around Golden Globes time and if not just a single anyway, great airplay on radio 2 and a top 75 entry over here, beating Girl Gone Wild in the chart run so that too would have gone far with an official release”

GMAYL was going to chart high in America before it was deleted but I don't think it was in any way capable of reaching the UK top 10. It might have made a number 8 debut but aside from that it dropped like a stone. In the countries where GMAYL did chart high it was in states where the freebie giveaway was counted so the chart numbers for GMAYL are distorted and not fully accurate of its success as a single.

Girl Gone Wild and Turn Up The Radio only charted in countries where sales are really low on the respective charts.

MDNA went totally tits up and only the tour saved this from being a sham.

I don't know who this Anna person is but I can fully believe Madonna hated the way everything has gone this year because there is only one positive she could truly take from it and that is the tour. When you rate everything else against her previous success its an appalling fall from grace on the musical aspect. She has been very lucky that her antics on the tour distracted from the media reporting on everything else underpeforming.

That's 12 years ago!

She did get nominated for the confessions era, (a total of 8 from MTV, 5 VMAS and 3 EMAs, if my memory is correct.) but won none.

IMO, Madonna is still relevant but not like she used to be.”

No one watches the MTV Awards anymore or cares about them. Their ratings last year were at an all time low and the press reviews saw the show as a joke and a has been outdated thing. Videos just aren't as important as they used to be. You are using the old standards and techniques which aren't relevant to music business of 2013. Madonna is still relevant because she realizes those things don't matter anymore. The business is now all about touring and live performance, not videos or awards shows, so she puts most of her passion into that. It's not Madonna that's become irrelevant, it's the standards you are using to judge her success.
The rumour is that the new way she is going to give people new music is through some kind of video game or phone app.

^^^ very much this...standards now are on a new low for that format...MTV used to have really badass stuff on it, edgy videos...it was all about the event right up to the mid 00s really and then its all been reality shows, cheap shows and teens market with 1D and Beiber...Madonna is above all of them which is why it is certainly not important nor is that relevant anymore.

A bit like the grammy "snubbing" for her albums Like A Virgin, True Blue and Like A Prayer due to the controversial elements surrounding the albums respectively....not taking into regard the music and the quality behind it...and of course since then rules have been ammened and the grammys became more of an event in the 90s but even that is on the wane....as seen in ratings in recent times.

Madonna Video game....ah man it just gets better That would be mental!

Guy said no new album was planned. That doesn't mean there couldn't be some kind of one off single which the rumours were saying about the Marvin Gaye cover.
I can see why Guy wants to keep things tight lipped until plans are definite or the next thing is finished. I find there is nothing more annoying than artists who make this grand announcement they are going to do some great musical project then something happens and it falls through or plans change. Fans feel let down and lied to. So he's very smart to say no plans until things are definite. But we all know Madonna is always thinking of the next thing and working on something.

Oh please. If Madonna wants to do it the easy way, she can just stop releasing any new music and concentrate on touring based on her amazing back catalogue. And that alone is enough to generate $$$$$.

MDNA tour which was heavily based on new material grossed almost $300m in 2012. Imagine if she just goes on tour with her greatest hits?

Totally and i do love that though cos it keeps us all on our toes in anticipation for the net thing and keeps us all guessing....kinda reading between the lines.

All we know for certain is that the MDNA tour will be out in March on CD/DVD Blu Ray so that will be epic and in a few months time some news by then may seep through

I am really excited...although sometimes Klein can go awry artistically with whom he works with....a lot of his collaborations with Madonna really hit top notch <3 See the X-Static process project in 2003/4 and the Confessions booklet (i feel he should have directed videos of that era with M) the S&S tour visuals...beautiful!

I feel that it's almost too soon for a new album since that would leåd naturally to a tour and I don't know if everyone is ready for a new tour yet. We all know how Mådonna wants to direct films even though some fåns don't like it, so I think it would be cool if she did a film but do a soundtrack with her singing and some contemporary music, not just the classical stuff that was in W.E. That way she could do what she artistically wants but the fans could also get new music.

I think 2013 will be a fairly quiet year. I think the first part of it will be promoting the ToD brand and maybe the second part will be recording a new album as she is supposed to be touring again next year. Hopefully the first single may be released at the end of the year followed by a promotional campaign (I hope) Who knows though, there are so many rumours that we don't know what to believe

I reackon 2014/15 will see the worl tour and album 13 will be out in 2014 with a slick promo campaign/summer promo schedules...span the era across the year into the following I think thats the way to do it.

When it comes on the radio i always try and guess which version they play of it...on our local radio it tends to be the TIC Pettibone remix mostly. But i was surprised a few months back when they played the LAP version....always epic however

Of course I use old standards I'm an older person who prefers the older ways. That was a great time and a much better time than now IMO.

And I think it's really unfair of you to blame my judging standards rather than blame Madonna or anything she does or says. She isn't perfect you know!

Back then Madonna was a great entertainer with shed loads of sex appeal who took no shit, she set trends which her fans clamoured to follow but now she just seems like a bandwagon jumper who's desperate to keep up with her younger rivals.

She made great catchy classic pop songs which everyone (even those who weren't fans) hummed along to (who else, apart from Madonna fans hummed along to GMAYL last year?) I like Confessions/HC and MDNA but they just sound so generic compared to her older classic albums, her newer music isn't a patch on 'old school' Madonna and I'm so glad I was there when it happened!

Maybe she should give up releasing new music and just tour her old stuff.

Shouldn't your 'oh please' be accompanied by this icon?

13 for 13 would be pretty slick.

Its funny how Madonna releases a studio album primarly either Spring (March, April, May) or Winter/Autumn (Oct, Nov) only TFA and TB had summer releases.

But it also harkens me back to November 2005 with Madonna everywhere....magic...and i loved going into Woolies and buying Confessions and Hung Up and Sorry came on there....ah man

But id be all for late 2013 if the album and era is planned and recorded across the year and then come Sept finalised and visuals ready to take over
