Of course I use old standards I'm an older person who prefers the older ways. That was a great time and a much better time than now IMO.

And I think it's really unfair of you to blame my judging standards rather than blame Madonna or anything she does or says. She isn't perfect you know!

Back then Madonna was a great entertainer with shed loads of sex appeal who took no shit, she set trends which her fans clamoured to follow but now she just seems like a bandwagon jumper who's desperate to keep up with her younger rivals.

She made great catchy classic pop songs which everyone (even those who weren't fans) hummed along to (who else, apart from Madonna fans hummed along to GMAYL last year?) I like Confessions/HC and MDNA but they just sound so generic compared to her older classic albums, her newer music isn't a patch on 'old school' Madonna and I'm so glad I was there when it happened!
All standards are different however.

Anyways to An extent i would say that MDNA has elements generic to todays culture and Hard Candy obviously had Timbo/Lake and Pharell that harkened to the contemporary era of then with some exceptions.

But Confessions was anything but generic...i mean tbh you could say all 10 studio albums 1983 - 2005 Madonna never catered to the current trend...she was the trend (and in many ways still is) Confessions On A Dance Floor in the mid 00s dared to not cater towards the then forefronted R&B/Hip Hop styles and stylistically as an album really ensured sonvs that melodically were interesting and cranked styles together....it meshed together Madonnas reflective eprsona of that time linked with sense for mixing genres together and Price immersed himself within this...and it was shown across the album.

I am personally just gutted (like with American Life before it) more singles/visuals werent showcased from the respective albums....i mean Madonna and Steven Klein i reckon would have made a fantastic mini film of songs across the Confessions campaign...am gutted it never happened really (Hung Up/Sorry/get together/Let It Will Be/Jump/How High/Like It Or Not would have made a sublime film with impressive visuals across it...why did they not do this?) Plus i would also argue that Hung Up and Sorry have very much become respective songs "to sing to" in their own right, get together and jump also i feel match up to Into the groove and holiday and la isla bonita for example in terms of motivation, feels and pace...they are captivating pieces of music

But again its all down to taste and perspectives. Its complicated to analyse the current musical state of affairs because music today is so so much more disposable...hense why Rihanna releases more and more evry year, why katy Perry makes sure every single has a video from the majority of an album to sell as much as possible, why the likes of Bieber, 1 Direction are worldwide sensations...its nothing due to "talent" or "artistry" its who has the catchiest song/look right now? Which is what differenciates Madonna from anything out there now! So if the VMAs etc are all about these guys then i am so glad Madonna has not been nominated nor associates herself with it anymore.

2009 was the final great VMA year IMO, the MJ tribute, Madonnas speech, Janets performance, Lady gaga at her peak with a bloodied Paparazzi these were all most talked about events and that ultimately was the death of what MTV stood for :/....sad but very true.

MTV used to be Madonna TV! now its Mess TV one day it may go back to its roots....heck it may need to with ratings and interest at an all time low....and we will see.

But it used to be about the art, direction, challenging the system, and embracing unity but now its unnecessary commercialism :/.

Sorry if that was all long winded....but i feel some points need to be emphasised.

While browsing (dont ask) i found this very insightful backstory into how Madonna came to be so musically INTO everything and how free minded she was...bar a few funny lines from an Ex of hers in her teen years (the boyfriend she took to see Bowies Diamond Dogs tour) its a proper good read

Great! Josh, we usually have the same taste in music, but I have to admit I don't quite get David musically. I appreciate him as a fashion and gay/bisexual icon, but the new song or even a lot of his older stuff just doesn't do it for me. It's a little slow and depressing for me, plus the vocals aren't that appealing to me. I guess I'm not hearing what everyone else is since the reaction seems to be so positive. Madonna has cited him as an influence but it seems more as a fashion and style icon, musically they don't have much in common.

We are always en vogue dahling

Tbh Bowie epitomises something bold and forward thinking wih his music....he incorporates style with music much in the same way Madonna does....the music reflects the artistry reflects the style and look of an album and era....for example when he released Ziggy Stardust the actual album in 1972....the persona of Ziggy didnt come alive until he was on stage almost a year later and he symbolised the life and the death of that character on the album and then recreated in live performance...due to the success of that Bowie reinvogorated a scene in ROck/Pop culture in Britain and then with Aladdin Sane translated globally....recreating similar themes and new aliases/alter egos....i think what Bowie and Madonna have musically similar is the fact that Boie always had an ear for new trends....the Plastic Soul of Young Americans album (i think you will love that one gigi its very deep and melodic and soulful!) was never done before....much like when Madonna incorporated House into Rock/Dance Pop styles for example...and then later Bowie did his Berlin Triilogy - Low, Heroes, The Lodger which was influenced by Kraftwerk and Berlin underground music.....again Madonna in Ray Of Light/ Music/ American Life incorporated Electronica/Techno/Trance in a way that only Bjork, Daft Punk did prior....so i guess you could say that is similar.

Plus both are their own creations...although it took Bowie three albums to find himself and his own identity with Madonna it only took one album and ever since then of course she evolved....so there are those similarities there too....but Madonna i very very influenced all over the spectrum which is why i love her....like the article said...its a blend of Punk/Cartoon&Comic/Dancey style she had and has evolved across time that i so adore about Madonna...in a way that Bowie was so Alien/Rock N Roll/Absurd perhaps....either way she is the Queen and he is the King in my eyes definitely.

But Young Americans is my personal favourite and i think out of all his albums that is an area to venture gigi most definitely....sorry if it was long winded...the last thing id want to do is be accused of only reading wikipedia and rewriting history now isnt it

But yeah check out YA if you can and when you can....all his albums are in full on YT...no excuses...run boy run haha

When I said I wasn't into David, I was more talking about the new song. I agree it's not repeat worthy. I will have to go back and listen to his older music since I'm not really that familiar with his stuff like I am with Madonna. I do like Young Americans and I know some people say he was selling out but I really like Modern Love and Let's Dance from the 80's.

I cannot believe the Lets Dance album is his best...ironically the follow up album Tonight i think is the worst hes ever done and thats his second biggest selling....kinda hints back to the strange debate earlier....ugh man  lol.

But yeah...i think it was hysteria and then....hmmmmmm with it...ill get the album anyway but the cover art depresses me somewhat....how fekkin lazy lol!

It took me a while before i ventured into Bowies catalogue also gigi...it does require more time....but like Madonna salbums often time makes you go back and reassess and it just blossoms with time

its been a joy to see the skiing pictures with her children, i am glad she is taking some family time out. just thought i would share this latest status update, i think her commitment and vision on this issue is truly inspiring.

in other news, her brother christopher mouthing off again  and this time he`s wading into the gaga copying debate. however, to be fair, he actually makes a interesting observation.

It is inspiring and i do love her association with Malawi and her passion and drive there

And "interesting" is indeed the operative word there....Chris is a bit of a dark horse...dont know which way to take anything with him lol. But it is kinda true to a degree, some of the comments are a bit rediculous and stupid bile thrown out there tbh...But there is a point there same with many contemporary Popstars overall really...
