Madonna should be more than simply "Queen" though surely? Speaking of which i really wouldnt like if she kept re-iterating that as some people are posting lyrics about this song about her "owning the crown" I mean it was cute and kinda needed for MDNA with I Dont give A...now all she needs is to show off why she is top tsandard rather than sing about it

I dunno...I just have peeves about stuff like that...i dont want any one of these current Pop starlets on her album....she can make a hit herself....not her fault the USA blacklist her...but even then she goes top 10 she will be okay! And who knows I reckon by herself it will happen anyway if given the chance to surprise we shall see.

I dont want KP on there at all though...as others have said i dont mind if it is for a KP...or Miley or RIhanna album but NOT on a Madonna album...she never used to duet unless it was high profile and top standard...she did very very few acros the 80s, 90s and early 00s and then all of a sudden BOOM :-/

9 second low quality found it....not overtly "keen" but it does have the snippet Billboard showcased last week...so hmmm I dont know...will wait and see....but sounds like it is Natalia Kills (which is AWESOME) and no current "poptart" type crammed on there....we shall have to wait and see and hear however.

I dunno its like...i like the snippet from Billboard BUT i feel like there needs/can/will be more weight behind it....what with all the people she ahs teamed up with for this album.

I also do not think the speculation of anything that will happen today on itunes will happen...it is just massively teased is all...Madonna herself has not mentioned anything and with all the teasers i reckon she would have...so yeah...unless at midnight suddenly it gets revealed i do not know?

I love the Disco idea...but personally while i like her first album i am not MASSIVE over it/those sounds....I loved how she utilised Disco on Confessions however and indeed Music/title song...but i feel she can go further like Daft Punk have done recentl and tell a stroy with Dance music...i would love that with whatever this Unapologetic song is....the lyrics that have been circulated dont sound AS inspired as it could be...I just want a surprise.

I'd like to see her step away from all that Dance music and throw a curveball Like American Life balls to the wall intensive immersive experience. I'd love a rock album or something she hasn't tried. I feel she is at a point in her career where it is feasible for her to experiment.

As for collabs on her album I too feel the same JP. I as a rule like them as one offs but feel they can more often than not drag an artist down see Xtina all he is now is a feature. And like Britney used to Madonna rarely if ever did collabs. She has enough talent in those manicured fingers to score herself a hit. But if it were a standalone hey bitches I'm back could work.

Imagine if Madonna had a collab with Natalia Kills.. that'd be awesome! Natalia is so underrated as an artist, I can imagine somebody like Madonna going for her.

Yeah i mean if she collaborated with someone left-of-centre...vocally like Beth Ditto, Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey or something that would be worthy of Madonnas talents IMO I mean they are more in league with what Madonna is about....self creation artists.

I love that Natalia Kills is on board the album and would adore if a duet did happen...would be beneficial in "making Natalia FINALLY happen" love both her albums...so underrated.

Yeah I just fee like this album is capable of having such n eclect mix but a cohesive theme....hate that sometimes people try and say "Madonna needs Katy Perry more than KP needs her" in articles and stuff...like whatever...Madonna doesnt NEED anyone...and i would love this album to be her solely vocally...but if someone like Natalia is on board much like MIA was for MDNA...I would be more for that...notice how literally weeks after Luvin was released MIA suddenly got picked up on US mainstream radio for "bad girls"

Yeah I am ready for her to be really creative and innovative with this album.

JP - I'm impressed by the mutual respect some artists show each other ....KP and Madonna are showing that love and respect......from the V cover and insert article and the KP vogue song on her tour. I would adore a duet.

mutual respect is good...but like SO many do it...so its cool but i feel the attention on what KP is doing may be OVERkill lol....it is fine to compliment etc. but i find it jarring sometimes. Dont know why.

A collab on KPs own album i dont have a problem with....heck Madonna did it for Britneys album in 2003.....but i just dont see the themes of Rebel Heart/Freedom/Art fitting in...I am open and ready to be justified!

I think you just have to think of it contextually. KP is where Madonna was at the same point in her early career. It's that idea of seeing the Queen with the queen in waiting like The Queen and the Princess all in one sphere and it's great when they get along. At this point in time it is inevitable KP will get the focus but agree when in terms of it being about another artist give them the spotlight.

Also agree in the fact where Katy is at musically may not wholly fit with where M is and how that will ultimately work. But then again the subtle Swedish sounds on the second half of Prism. But I'm more there for M aiding Katy transition so when KP is ready for her LAP then ring up M.

I may be in a complete minority but despite her non stop number 1s in America...i just do notsee the resemblence to Madonna....It is easier for pop stars to achieve hits in America....and with Max Martin and Dr Luke penning every single one (of what i know) how could it not be a success Stateside?

Trying not to turn it into negatives...but i just do not see any similarity to Katy and Madonna i just dont....Okay i understand Katy writes her songs..or at least has writing credits on there too...but across Madonnas first 4 years she did so much! I dunno...I can see peraps why but at the same time i just cannot comprehend the idea of both on a song...it would be like splurting ketchup over a roast dinner for me :-/ I dunno...maybe i am just in a minority here but i do not correlate what Katy has/is doing now with what Madonna did do and achieved early in her career. I just physically cannot place it.

Fair enough if you are fans of Katy etc but I just cannot correlate which is why i find it jarring...i find more artistic creativity and similarity to Lana or gaga...or indie girls like Robyn or Charli XCX etc...just while it took Madonna time she did manage to garner hits and not stay afe in abox and shook it up album to album and painted a scene/atmosphere with each album to date and to have maintained that is insanely awesome!

I think your right musically Madonna was much stronger. But the career parallels are there and I think Like Madonna Katy was and is still being written off and ultimately I can see KP doing an LAP. Like A Virgin and Teenage Dream are more or less Parallel eras and Prism is True Blue transitional (but Madonna yes is a stronger artist).

And as for Robyn, Charlie XCX etc they are more Bush than Madonna. They are true musical visionaries not constrained by commercial leanings which even when at her most experimental Madonna has always been.

Do I as a fan of both want a collaboration no not at all Madonna is at her best on her own. and what is frustrating me is that Madonna is at a point in her career where she can forget about chart numbers and just do the music she wants. I feel for far to long she has played it safe and I want to see her totally surprise us all.

Yeah not being a KP fan...much as i have tried, I just cant for some reason...I do not really KNOW everything inside and out just what i have seen and the pattern here...she feels more cut from a Britney/Kylie cloth...some artistic input but ultimately the label goes NO NO NO THIS THIS THIS and more of THIS...but less of THAT...whereas Madonna (which is why i utilised those artists) is ALWAYS in control of her own material, albums, performances, directions and who she works with.

Ultimately as she said when making Like a Prayer, Erotica and Ray of Light (and am sure same can be said of all later albums) Madonna had NO IDEA what would crack radio and what wouldnt...she just created the music she felt inspired to make for the people who wanted to hear it....the big moments came later...ipact of the sonvs, lyrics, music videos etc...fascinating...i mean i know behind the scenes of ROL she was worried Frozen just would fail...and thus the album....she had that fear plague her again in 2003 and 2005 in 2005 she cried when she heard COnfessions became the biggest selling album for a female artist in 2005 Stateside and shot top of the charts! She didnt think she would make the chart the way AL was handled.

Sure Madonna has always had the idea on the maisntream and the hit on the pulse of what she can make enter the mainstream from the underground/clubs/lesser known areas/avant garde etc....which is fascinating she has always been this middle ground of the underground artist and maisntream pioneer...love that.

yeah sorry rambling on but that is why i posted thsoe examples...she doesnt make songs for "number 1s" which is why i find it jarring when it comes across that way of late. I mean if she wanted effortless chart toppers she would go for the obvious...Max Martin/Dr Luke produce MDNA? why not! but she went with Orbit, Martin Solveig, Demo Crew to shake it up a lot...and two diverse Minaj and MIA on ONE song inspried by The Beach Boys! Crazy! shame it didnt work really.

Again rabbitting on but yeah...she is a one woman Beatles machine blurring the lines of rock n roll/underground and maisntream/pop culture.

Just hope her new direction/material shwocases her off a lot more...this is WHY she is MADONNA....

I really love her writing style. It's very literal, intelligent, down to earth, but with great humour and wit, but moving at the same time. This is a fantastic piece, much like the mini-autobiography she did for Harpers Bazaar awhile back and you can tell she wrote it all herself, not ghostwritten like so many celebrities. She really is a very intelligent woman, which too often people don't give her credit for.
I know everyone is thinking about the new album right now, but I would love if it if she wrote her autobiography one day. It would be a great read.

i think people see parallels between katy and madge, in the way they were both written off initially, but went on to achieve longer than expected success. nobody has compared them musically or artistically, josh, they really haven't.

max martin/dr luke do not guarantee #1 hits either, josh. see "your body" by xtina co-written by max and dr.luke who co-wrote "lovebird" by leona lewis. fair enough that you don't appreciate katy josh, everybody has different tastes and its certainly not compulsory to like her in an appreciation thread about madonna. however, katy really seems to sell her music through her great music videos she makes. they are the only two comparisons between the two that i can see personally and i haven't seen much else written here beyond those comparisons.

i wish katy all the success in the world, because she has worked hard for her success and hasn't resorted to b**ching on twitter about other artists like some artists we could mention. i am genuinely sorry you feel in the minority in this particular discussion josh, but i do feel you have taken the comparisons out of context.

I loved the piece. Madonna has some very odd "fans" though. At one fan forum, people were complaining about this piece saying it was superficial, self obsessed and not well written. I don't really see how anyone could find fault with it, but to each their own I guess.

I don't know if this is reliable or not, but someone on a Madonna forum says the mystery billboard clip is from the new Gwen Stefani single with Pharrell. Not sure how either of them qualifies as dance legends, but it does sort of sound like something they might do. Apparently Gwen is going to back to her solo career after the No Doubt album not doing so well. I like Gwen, but I think that's too bad. I always wanted to see No Doubt in concert again. I saw them back in the 90's and they were great.

Yeah that was a great and touching read...Madonna has lost some close friends the past few years....the past year has lost some truly great freedom fighters in art/politics/pop culutre too...shocking to read about Maya Angelou today! loved that image they did together for that magazine cover in 2007! Iconic.

I wonder if M will make a statement about it..would make sense...just shocking to read really some truly pioneering freedom fighters and equal rights activists lost but free.

oh ffs, i am the first to be critical of madge on here, if she does something i don't agree with, but seriously, she's just paying tribute to close friend and she is still possibly grieving.

sorry to bring this back up, because i honestly feel like we have moved on since then, but i remember a while back you wrote that it was as if i needed madonna for guidance or something along those lines. the truth according to that piece is that even madonna heavily relied on someone for influence, advice and guidance. the truth is we all need these qualities in our friends, i know i do.

this is why i am glad i tend to shy away from most places discussing madonna except for here. sure, i cant say i have made any friends in here, but for the most part, its not downright cruel in this thread. anyone that can read that piece and is not moved in anyway, is quite frankly, heartless imho.
