But i just find it so dull in some respects was wondering how others felt about it ?”

I ADORE it! I love the fusion an feel around the album as 10 songs it is so simplistic like her first three albums and concise....and in that it stems 10 sublime songs.

Music is an anthem, Impressive Instant is one of the finest works ever, Runaway Lover i find echoes ROL a lot and very frenetic, I Deserve It is beautiful and swooning, Amazing is so PSYCH i love it, Nobodies Perfect combines techno with ambience and i find beautiful, Dont Tell Me is such an anthem in itself too LOVE it, What It Feels Like... I think is so melancholic and beautiful, Paradise (not for me) is a work of art, and finally "gone" is a lovely finale to the album.

I think in many ways it feels superior to ROL in terms of the style of the album, the way it combines a fun dynamic as well as experimental and with the Orbit tracks it feels repetetive compared to ROL in some ways too, also it feels like a great header towards American Life next...but Music is IMO such a strong album i LOVE it and find it so underrated, for the like 20 million copies it has sold or whatever i find it very underappreciated...but maybe its because the title song doesnt reflect the other 9 songs on the album at all...it symbolises Madonna move from America to England, a new lifestyle...its frenetic and crazy and schitzo and brought new awareness of FOlktronica, Techno into modern Pop music continuing the trend and status ROL set two years before it which is so cool...and its brilliant seeing where it stemmed across the first few years of the 00s too

But yeah...i love the Music album very much.

I agree in every aspect and that in some respects it's superior to ROL. I dunno i think my expectations of it were higher so it's left me diassapointed. And it has some true gems (I wanna singy singy like a bird on the wing wingy for instance ) but i dunno its not an album i find myself fully immersed in or loving almost as though it had potential but no lift of. But its a brilliant and underrated album I feel ROL, Music and AL a perfect trilogy.

^^^ i stand by that really....its like as a trilogy it is its own storyline you know? Madonna becoming a mother, adapting to a new culture of pop and celebrity (death of Diana/Paparazzi birth etc) a reflection of the times of pop culture (Playstation, Fight Club, American Beauty, The Matrix all massive films/innovations in that time period) change was definitely in order...then with Music its the English Life, leaving her previous "world" behind (could say it was drowned?) and rebuilding a new one...therefore a time for reflection and bringing America (Country/Folk) to Europe (Techno, Trance, Ambience, Trip Hop) and fusing together. Then American Life...the grande finale to the trilogy....Bush is the new president, Madonna is immersed in British Paparazzi buzz, the Pop scene again looks incredibly different...the result is a full on assault on the senses in imagery, music and performance incorporating elements from ROL and Music and her past and not conforming to social Pop standards of the time....very powerful.

But yeah Music i think is such a misjudged album...a bit like her personality...people dont know how to directly take Madonna, so therefore audiences didnt know how to take it despite critical and commercial success....it is a very deep and dark record and very kinda bittersweet/melancholic across the album...but i love that its like post Summer bluesy styles...and it reflects that with the sonics, folky, bluesy feel across it And man M could have gotten more hits out of it had Warner not twisted her arm for the 3rd release Impressive Instant and Amazing had HIT written all over them

And saying that Paradise (Not For Me) could have been a hit too...the production, the lyrics, the elivery....its so damn perfect...the ultimate flower of the album i feel....a tour de force man!

Speaking of which.....i loved how it took until the Confessions Tour for M to perform P (NFM) live for the first time (such a beautiful performance!) And i do hope it shines a light that previous material on albums can be utilised in the future

I mean Spanish Eyes, Till Death, Words, Thief Of Hearts, Skin, and singles never performed on tour - Bad girl, Bedtime Story, Nothing Really Matters....hopefully if M does stem into a Rockish nature for album 13 they could be utilised live dreams come to fruition.

There in lies Music's issue. I think its percieved as other her country/folk record or Euro pop given an American spin. Its a somewhat revelation on first listen as its darker more personal and completely not would you expect. Also age has been unkind to it and it hasn't aged all too well. But yes 1998-2003 madonna at her most experimental and introspective and the fruits of her labour a wonder to listen too.

I wouldnt necessarily say its "aged" in sound...although you could say tht RUnaway Lover and Amazing were very much of its time mainly due to the fact ROL and Beautiful Stranger were so damn successful it made its own time element of timelessness that it was impossible to retread ground and not be consumed by it lol. Whereas the Trip Hop, Country, FOlktronica elements definitely cannot really have a date put to it really.

Speaking of which i do find it interesting across her legacy where Madonna has focused more on mainstream elements, and where she has mixed everything up and experimented...i mean TFA launched the Synthpop/Post-DIsco New Studio 54 rebirth sound/direction and LAV and TB very much became a staple of the 1980s sounds/directions with Soul/Synth combination being very much en vogue as it were....but then she took a massive gamble 6 years into her career with Like A Prayer and created an era that really mixed together sounds that were not IN at that moment (speaking of which this was the year Milli Vanilli, New Kids On The Block, Paula Abdul were "popular" Stateside and Prince stuck to his Batman soundtrack and guns N Roses continued their late-80s feat) so the idea of bringing in gospel, funk, soul, rock, dance rock, psychadelic pop n 1989 must have been outright absurd...and in the long haul was such a making of it...and therefore timeless, same with Erotica in 1992 where House, Jazz, Lounge, Trip Hop, Disco were united on one album in a way no other artist had done before....Janet Jackson owed her so many thank you notes two years later....jus sayin but seriously it was through mixing and mashing styels that made that era in itself way ahead of its time (hense the "Madonna Backlash" focused on the SEX Book/films rather than the music...which in 1992 no one really took to because it was so anti-the pop system then...and which is why its so beyond now) and again as we have seen 1998 - 2003 marked that portion of innovation again.

Interestingly (again wittering on here lol) Confessions kinda stands alone...it doesnt link hand in hand with HC at all...it is such a strong masterpiece of an album that very much incorporated sounds, styles not IN for 2005 Pop music (Hip Hop at its biggest peak to date) making a Dance,Trance,Techno,Disco,Ambient,Punk, New Wave,House,Electro album multi-hybrid was such a force to be dealt with really after a polotical backlash Stateside already i feel it was the opus of a decade ultimately...and again gutted more Klein work and visuals and singles couldnt have represented the album.era far more but alas...it influenced more artists/fans and garnered the likes of goldfrapp into further (thankfully) public consciousness too .

Sorry if being a bit wordy there XD but its interesting to dissect Madonnas legacy overall and the pattern it seems to stem...which seems to lead itself to where we are giong with album 13...hmmmm

Hehe i do apologise.....made up for my lack of posts for SUnday hehe :P had a bit of a marathon of Kick-Ass, Scott Pilgrim, Precious and Cinderella

speaking of Precious (i recommend the film btw) it is so interesting to be IN that sense of depravation in society in urban areas, specifically America where drugs, Aids, rape, racism was at such a heated and intense peak....and it just reminded me of what Madonna fought up against in her AIDs benefit concerts/awareness from 1986 onwards basically....really inspiring...but yes as I say, very much recommend it

And yes its like Madonna peaks commercially, experiments, goes through a transition...then experiments and then transition and then...well here is to album 13...its an exciting thrill ride

As long as it's not a cult then yeah! It would be fun anyway, she needs to do another 24 hour disco like back in 1989 (that's what it was wasn't it?)

Yeah, this could really be something! It's not a far out idea yet nobody seems to have done it before, all proceedings could go to a good cause and then make the record books (possibly)

argh I know, less said about them, the better

Was re-reading Shep Pettibones "The Erotica DIaries"

and LOVE these pics....love the A CLockwork Madonna image....which reminded me to how she alluded to A Clockwork Orange on the BA Tour and girlie Show EPIC! Another aspect which i love...her allusions to other artistic mediums/the past in theatrical/cinematic interpretations...EPIC

Is that really a new picture? It looks kind of familiar to me. I think it might be an outtake from a Hard Candy or Sticky and Sweet photo shoot. She's actually looks thinner in that picture than she did on the MDNA tour so I think it's an old picture. So many people trying to fool us Madonna fans into thinking they have inside picture and information when they don't!
