Across her albums i have loved her influences totally and references...
The FIrst Album - Pop, SYnth, Punk feel and sounds and imagery
Like A Virgin - golden Hollywood, Religious background, continuation of Pop/Punk blend in look and allusions to Motown/Funk...Keith Haring and Warhol brought into the picture...
True Blue - a pean to Warholian Pop Art, Marilyn Monroe/Iconic look and in turn the golden era of Hollywood as well as allusions to Italian roots, a fusion of Dance ROck/Dance Pop
Like A Prayer - Sly & The Family Stone, Simon & Garfunkel, Marvin gaye/Motown were massive influences from her childhood brought to the fore and reinterpreted s well as refocusing of religion/Catholic background and taking a stance. Fritz Lang and Orson Wells cinema paid allusion too, Rock/Pop/gospel/Psychadelic ROck paid reference too
Im Breathless - 1920s/30s Nior sounds/Jazz sounds...very cinematic.
Erotica - COntinued cinematic look/golden Hollywood homages to Warhol/Pop culture...thus influenced by 1960s sub-culture within 1990s underground a psuedo-blend fusion.
Bedtime Stories - A more contemporary feel....very transgressive/adaptive in sound and feel but some allusions to old skool Funk sounds within and golden Hollywood Blond Bombshell ironic re-portrayal
Ray Of Light - More Psychadelic influences/1960s/70s sub-culture some Punkier sounds, kinda Retro-Futuristic in many aspects also and Surrealist...maybe due to surrealist paintings of her childhood she looked up to (Frida Kahlo??)
Music - I think here was where it really pushed Madonna at Rockier allusions perhaps gigi....her kinda FOlktronica sounds/Punkiier sounds too within the ELectronica
American Life - VERy Folktronica/Bluesy in many aspects...would have been interesting to see where she would head next "Rock goddess" portrayal for future release maybe? But i loved her old skool sets/looks with Monte and Stuat Price here like old skool gigs...
Confessions On A Dance FLoor - in particular Like It Or Not, Let It Will Be and I Love New York some rockish and thumping guitar feels were brought forward within the Dance elements...
Hard Candy - no real rockish elements here...although some electric guitar use in particular on Incredible, Miles Away, Shes Not Me.
MDNA - I Dont give A, Im A Sinner, Some girls, Beautiful Killer, I F-d Up definitely showcased a raw-er Madonna where i feel she can head next.
Add and take away or whatever....but just doing a broad overview there lol, but i find it so fascinating how many elements have influenced Madonna and how she has really made them her own...and worldwide famous because of it...so much she doesnt get acknowledged for but ultimately she should do definitely....and i do think a definite YES to her Rockier influences being brought forward into album 13.
A Bluesy Rock/Ambient Dance kinda blend would be so cool...i mean listen to The Black Keys latest recordings and i think YES Madonna can really make some recordings like that and run away with it definitely.....we will see
