I have become obsessed with 'old school' Madonna over the last few weeks. I bought all her albums up to 2000, watched about 40 interviews, read magazine scans, watched a chunk of her tours online etc.etc.
I have no idea what caused it because I've only ever been a fan of the odd song before now. ![]() Bit like me in the interview sense...seen a few the past few days ![]() which albums do you have thus far? or is it every one until Music? If so...check out American Life and COnfessions when you can too ![]() But always glad to read posts like this...casual fan into...woah im addicted epic!

I love Like a Prayer, True Blue and Erotica atm. I really like Ray of Light as well. But then I like quite a few of the tracks on Bedtime Stories as well... What are your favourites? I'm obsessed with the Blonde Ambition tour atm

See, I'm more familiar with her more recent stuff. I had a quick listen of American Life but didn't love it. I had Confessions already, which I think is alright. Confessions and MDNA are best albums of the last decade I think.
Of her older albums, I really can't decide. I love Like a Prayer, True Blue and Erotica atm. I really like Ray of Light as well. But then I like quite a few of the tracks on Bedtime Stories as well... What are your favourites? I'm obsessed with the Blonde Ambition tour atm ![]() For example American Life the past year i always liked but this year it meant so much more to me and is now my favourite album of the last decade (Confessions just behind now) because so much she targeted on that album and the sounds were so UNtypical 2003 Pop....then again she always has been untypical of Pop music which is why she never truly "peaked" in such a way but more remained consistent with massive albums/eras across 30 years. But it is interesting what you say there and your praise for COADF and MDNA too ![]() Thats epic that you love Like A Prayer and Erotica as they are my top two albums ever! And funny you mention Bedtime Stories too because the past week i have played that relentlessly when it is my least favourite Madonna album but i ADORE it! The fact she teamed up with Dallas Austin (posted a page or so back about her influences for the album and why she worked with Dallas) and of course Babyface and Nellee Hooper Epic!My favourite Madonna album and favourite album ever is Like A Prayer for the fact that over the years it is an album that has spoken a lot too me, i adore that conceptually it feels like an almighty coming of age record, the songs float like an absurd/nughtmarish dreamscape fueled by confrontation and rebellion and reflection....on her importance of family, her religious angst, her heavily publicised divorce, leaving her 20s behind and moving forward, the los of her mother and parental "figure" and drive for personal independance and self expression as a human being....as an album it really is a beautiful piece of work that combined many genres - Dance Pop, Rock, Soul, Funk, Acid House, gospel, Psychadelic Rock, Motown/Traditional R&B and flowed exceptionally....there has not been a Pop album like it and there never will be. ![]() Erotica is close behind as my second fave and second fave album ever for again its mesh of styles, confrontational attitude against the medias analysis of sex/exploitation/lgbt/underground portrayals in the media and basically putting a face to this angst in a post-AIDs/HIV traumatised world....it is powerful stuff even today with such empowering anthems and fusion of House/Funk/Jazz/Lounge/Trip Hop/Ambience across the 13 songs...so powerful. American Life (in my top 5 albums ever behind Kate Bushs Hounds Of Love and ahead of Bowies Scary Monsters) is right on up there as is The FIrst Album, Confessions On A Dance Floor, Like A Virgin, Music and Ray Of Light ....but i adore True Blue, Bedtime Stories, Hard Candy, Im Breathless and MDNA too ![]() ANd also interesting you mention The Blond Ambition Tour as that is my favourite world tour of all time....it really is one of the most iconic moments in pop culture history...transforming the world tour into more than just - performance/music/bands but into theatrical pieces of art....like a massive Broadway Show/Cinematic Showcase conceptualised for the world to see...the blend of powerful Music/Performance/Stage/Theatrics/Fashion all united to their best and most fitting style....not to mention making the Cone bra/corsets/Vogueing and peroxide ponytail/curls a staple of Pop Culture reference forevermore....also BA Tour is part of my favourite segment in Madonnas legacy from 1989 - 1994 ![]() Woah sorry if long winded...but any questions I and many others on here can help too

- The End of An Era -
In Madonnas final show of the MDNA world tour she had to face a power cut and some delays during segments....but she pulled it all together to make one final showcase of this era.
All in all i think the final show summed up the entire era...Madonna performance wise the best she can be, the music brought fans together across the globe, there were troubles along the way but they were faced down....and Madonna quietly dominated the touring world and Pop world this year by name alone marketing and promo. So here is to it...cheers for a great al round Madonna year....and here is to a well deserved break and bring on album 13

“Thank you Madonna and fans for an experience of a lifetime!”
— Guy Oseary https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...00037333_n.jpg And when the powercut happened she sang a medley and spoke to her fans and thanked them for their patience here... ![]() https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...19583684_n.jpg Take a bow...the show is over... https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...52554289_n.jpg |

Rollercoaster is a colossal understatement of how this tour has played out. But it's been brilliant, all the drama, the controversy it's just constant tests of the resilience of Madonna and she's triumphed! Well done Madonna for keeping the party going on! It's only natural the last night of the tour had obstacles but the mighty M made it through the wilderness!
I just realised the key reason why I love I'm Addicted so much. I think it's the radical changes in the beat from the "Something happens to me..." to the breakdown, through to the end of the song, you just don't get these radical changes in beats these days! Just made me think as Irene Cara's What a Feeling came on and had some crazy but amazing changes...classic feel good song! We need more radical changes in music in general, so bored how things stay the same more often than not! |

I haven't listened to it in such a long while but I've found a new love for Bedtime Story the song itself. I've always considered the video to be one of her very best but I never appreciated the song like I do now, it's fantastic

^^^ agreed....i also wish it was longer too! I love the beat breakdowns the further the song goes into it and Madonnas vocals becoming harsher and harsher yet mixing it with more melodic tones....its a beautiful song.
Like many said in critical reviews a few years later....its a song that "could have been Vogue" but was never given the chance...and i do agree somewhat. Also, have any of you guys heard the latest from the tabloids with Madonna being two months pregnant...i mean SERIOUSLY!! Of all the crap they make up lol! |

Also heard that next tour - will be smaller/ more album promo type like Drowned World and will begin in Australia! So the right decision!

I do hope that is kinda true....really make sure every single release from album 13 ensures the right attention, a focus on the visual aspects of it and turn the promo/world tour as we know it inside out a fair bit...will be brilliant

just currently listening to Hard Candy .... not as bad I thought ... it is rnb disco in essence .... her voice in parts are not layered well with effects in places and production is a little ropey for some songs...
single release should have been: 4 Minutes Dance 2Nite Devil Wouldnt Recognise You The Beat Goes On the album`s essence would have been understood more clearly |

^^^ great stats.
Also in other news MDNA is the 21st biggest selling album of 2012. Which is great considering the zero promo strategy! and the fact there really is nothing in it between the album sales until you get to the top 3 really. More rumours are spreading today - so not only is Madonna apparently 2 months preggers, and not only is Rocco apparently going to come out the closet (i mean REALLY!....to both!!!) Madonna is also apparently going to be part of a "secret" recording with gaga for ARTPOP....and you know what i think that would implode the internet...maybe the universe as we know it if true....mind you that may add to the whole "staged" nature of the debacle....we will see. But tbh i am still think Madonna wont enter the studio until later in 2013 for a new album and era for 2014...all else...pinch of salt....and as for those two dreamt up pieces of nonsense....ah man -_- |
