Did anyone see this article in the Times a couple of days ago? It was an article by Caitlin Moran basically saying that although a lot of the media is negative about Madonna, she should keep on being inappropriate and doing what she does and following the beat of her own drum. I can't post a link because the Times has a paywall, but it's a great article and it's worth checking out if you have a Times subscription.

Need she say more?
FOr Madonna...she doesnt need to say anything...that look there is so striking DEFEND on her top.....I just know this Secret Project Propaganda is all for freedom fighting and whatever it is i know it will push forward! But seriously that simplicity and striking look could be an album cover alone

30 Years of MADONNA...
Today 30 years ago The First Album was released to the world! Everybody and Burning Up wer ealready singles and Holiday was about to hit the airwaves and launch her to a new platform of superstardom!
Amazing....30 years since her debut album was released...and to this day the Pop/Synth/Post-Disco/Punk blend still translates to day...the scrappy dancefloor rhythms with heavenly Studio 54 vibes across the 8 songs...screams perfection! So yay, lets CELEBRATE!! ![]() Find it tough to pick a favourite song from the album but Borderline, Physical Attraction and Lucky Star are my most played from it...but all 8 songs are seamless! Brilliant. |

the 'first album'.....
i have recently discovered a new love for 'think of me' and i adore the 2006 remix remastered version ....it sounds very current with the revival of old skool dance disco. Holiday - surely is the anthem from this album? |

Slant celebrates M too....(surely it should have been top 30 but alas) here are their contributions to the "15 great Madonna non-singles"
several omitted (which is why i think a top 30 would have been better) but its a celebration ![]() http://www.slantmagazine.com/house/c...non-singles/P2 |

Her most controversial moments. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/36634...comm_ref=false when i was growing up, everyone had an opinion on her. whether it be good or bad, everyone held some sort of view regardless of their age. i will never forget my friend's grandfather calling her "a female thug". i also recall the media obsession with her marriage to sean and the press dubbed them "the poison penns".

So, with all this publicity about her debut I decided to listen to it again. It's weird for me because I only became a huge fan with Like A Prayer. I listened to it back to back with MDNA. People criticize her voice but it actually is scarily almost the same. How many artists can say that 30 years they sound so similiar? She really is quite extraordinary and so little appreciated. People throw around the world legend, but she is the one of the few artists who truly deserves it. Bless her!

"secret garden" at #1, really? and the "bedtime stories" appreciation there is a bit much.
i guess everyone has different favourites, but my choices would be...1. impressive instant 2. till death do us part 3. nothing fails (should have had a wider single release, but the radio edit was dreadful) 4. future lovers 5. i want you 6. forbidden love (confessions) 7. runaway lover 8. masterpiece 9. skin 10. sky fits heaven 11. devil wouldn't recognize you 12. promise to try 13. why's it so hard 14. love spent 15. like it or not i also think "spotlight" should have been a single to support "you can dance" and i think "time stood still" should have been a single instead of "american pie", it was way better in my opinion. also, i found the below interview with reggie lucas a rather interesting read. particularly him describing the creative process on the first record and the way he praises her input during its creation. it was also rather interesting to read the lack of interest warner's had in her originally, she really had to work hard to prove herself in the early years.http://www.theatlantic.com/entertain...career/277974/ its a powerful thing...i will do a top 30 for me...1. Spanish Eyes 2. Intervention 3. Till Death Do Us Part 4. Words 5. Sky Fits Heaven 6. Skin 7. Nobody Knows Me 8. Thief Of Hearts 9. Easy Ride 10. Let It Will Be 11. Promise To Try 12. Impressive Instant 13. Secret garden 14. To Have And Not To Hold 15. Like It Or Not 16. Future Lovers 17. Wheres The Party 18. Sanctuary 19. Paradise (Not For Me) 20. Swim 21. Shoo Bee Doo 22. Physical Attraction 23. Mother & Father 24. Love Tried To Welcome Me 25. Push 26. Supernatural 27. FOrbidden Love (Confessions) 28. Devil Wouldnt Recognise You 29. Over & Over 30. Whys It So Hard? I feel near enough these would be my top 30 non-singles and majority should/could have been and massive but alas... And yeah funnily enough i do think Spotlight should have had a release...but You Can Dance sold 6 million by itself so crdit where due...pretty amazing...but a single from it would have done brilliantly. And i adore behind the scenes stuff for Madonnas album projects...so its so cool to see Reggie Lucas describe Madonna and how much she really had to fight her corner moreso than we thought too...she really did persuade Warner Records which i guess is why they gave her more creative freedom come the late 80s and into the 90s...and possibly why she got so frustrated in the 00s when they tried twisting her arm for single releases (the Music third single/fourth single controversies) taking Maverick away from her in 2004, pushing her to do a Confessions era for the States in 2008 for Hard Candy. So its no wonder she elft...but i cannot help but think...what if she stayed? I have a feeling everything would have been differently handeled...but alas

oh wow, so many memories right there and even though "mdna" underperformed, there's still a lot of controversial moments highlighted there from that period. she's been quite consistent in terms of delivering headline grabbing moments over the decades.
when i was growing up, everyone had an opinion on her. whether it be good or bad, everyone held some sort of view regardless of their age. i will never forget my friend's grandfather calling her "a female thug". i also recall the media obsession with her marriage to sean and the press dubbed them "the poison penns".![]() ![]() Crikey yeah well i guess bcause before M there was really nothing to comapre to so people generalised opinions based on what they could think lol...quite funny

Also what i find funny is that the past couple years i have noticed artists have tried replicating the sounds.concepts of the "Madonna" period...with Synths/Funk/Post-Disco blends and styles...and more and more models etc have used chains/punky hair in imagery recently too...i just find it so uncanny
![]() I mean Solange True EP has so many styles that remind me of the Madonna album (intentionally of course as Blood Orange said so) and some allusions to her Urban vibes there...so darn cool. |
