To me Madonna has a beauty of her own, not classic or conventional but beautiful in her own way.

But that's what I love about her she's really 'normal' looking, lovely eyes but flared nostrils, chubby cheeks and fuzzy eyebrows, (i've always loved her thick fuzzy brows) she's always made the best of her looks with her red lips and lightened hair, good diet and fitness regimes.

She does look great in those photos, all toned and fit but her face does look very puffy and she needs to be very careful she doesn't overdo it with these fillers and stuff.

I absolutely love what she's wearing. Love the leather biker jacket. I know some people want her to wear more elegant evening gowns, but I personally can't relate to that. I'm a rocker indie chick type of girl. so the leather look is something I can relate to because I like to dress that way.

however, truthfully looking at these recent pictures, i think there is a combination of the strain of extensive travelling and her overdoing it with the fillers too. madonna doesn't strike me as particularly vain though, not compared to other celebrities. she's be having hand fillers left, right and centre instead of opting for gloves for example, if she was that concerned about her looks. like she said in the video, her exercise regime is more about her well being and mental balance, rather than her desperation to look young like many people wrongly suggest in my opinion. on balance and considering her age as well as her busy schedule, i think she looks great.
Madonna does a lot of dancing in her shows so she has to stay fit and flexible and work out. So exercise isn't just about vanity and looking young, it's part of her job in the same way it is for a professional athlete.

i don't disagree and like i said in my previous message, i don't think she exercises with the intention of her looking young in mind. like she said herself in that short video, she has always exercised and its important to her for a number of reasons.

Madonna looks after herself and i love that she does that...inspiring people to really keep going...it will benefit Madonna in the long run too..i mean she is maintaining herself even when not touring the globe (or most of the globe)

Anyways today (well yesterday for us) was/is Eroticas 21st Anniversary....had a bit of a celebration on FB but of coruse buys so couldnt fully go all out there and bombast it up....but i played it in full last night and i just think WOW...tour-de-force piece of art and i lvoe how in 21 years it has shaped and formed and progressed in time and i feel the songs, direction is all the more relevant today.

I think also why i have it as my second fave album of all time...i feel it also feels like a sequel to Like a Prayer too...both counter balance each other well...LAP is her coming of age album of self expression and a journey...Erotica i that journey through an alter ego...like an Alice in Wonderland urban adventure across the Lower East Side...it is beautiful and again showcases a cohesiveness in the variation of sounds, themes and tempos...i love the blur of Jazz/House/Funk/Soul/Trip Hop across the album...it trly is a beauty....and also how come Words was not a single release...wuld have been a smash! But alas.

It was the album that DARED

I had to laugh the other day at my daughter. She recorded some Madonna video special on one of the music channels for me (even though I have seen every Madonna video going and if I wanted too can watch them on You Tube. But bless her for recording this for me).
I genuinely thought she saw every Madonna video going. But she near had a shock when she heard Hanky Panky. And her face was priceless when she saw Erotica. Both songs and videos she heard for the very first time. Then said that Lady Gaga, Rihanna..................etc (too many to mention, but the usual pop princesses) are pretty tame compared to Madonna. And this was back in the days (LOL! showing my age here) when things like this wasn't usual in music videos.

And I do wish the press wuold just back off about how she looks. They can't question her talent but they like to mock the way she looks.

So happy belated 21st birthday to Erotica!

I remember the backlash when it came out, how people said she had ruined her career, and she's still here making music today and Erotica is one of her most under rated and best albums to date and has grown on me as a firm favourite over the years.

Yeah i mean i dig gaga and RIhanna...but there is "shock" to sell..."shock" to show but then there is the real ballsy SHOCK that really broke boundaries you know? I mean when...sometimes you look back and think...oh thats tame...but with pop culture and music...you look back and think damn...no one could get away doing that now...its crazy...thats why i think Miley-gate seems/feels so forced on us...its not shocking...just a nuisance..not her fault but the media representation of it...its like...why??

Madonna shocks...pushes and breaks boundaries but always with such purpose and i lvoe that and it still appplies today...even moreso with social media even....wish that stations would circulate her confrontational hits a lot more really...

anyways found this cool gif on tumblr

speaking of rihanna... lmao, i love rihanna. she is the real pop star out there in today's market pushing boundaries in my opinion. before i get a lecture on her being an industry puppet that doesn't write her own songs, that is irrelevant to what i am saying and she has an undeniable knack of stirring up controversy.

i like miley too and she is also getting a taste for courting extreme reactions. i think its exciting to see these controversial women coming to the forefront of pop and they manage to do it with their own individuality too, they aren't necessarily following madonna's blueprint. miley isn't necessarily forced on anyone, she is breaking away from an acting role that made her extremely famous, of course the media is going to milk that "controversy" for all its worth.

its difficult to believe that madonna really broke any boundaries in regards to the way women are treated in the media. 21 years have past since "erotica" and yet the media are still selling the same old stories, with the readers lapping it at up like as if that period never existed. madonna has certainly made more female singers more willing to try and express extreme views through their music and image, but the inevitable media backlash is no different to what is was back then.

madonna was the original trailblazer though delivering a curve ball like "erotica" and the "sex" book at the peak of her powers. it was a huge risk and certainly didn't pay off commercially, but she pushed the envelope of convention risking her career in the process. you have to respect her for that.

I love RIhanna her and gaga are the only "Pop stars" of today i really enjoy you know? I love her Unaplogetic album even more in time actually love the EDM/Island/Trippy vibes about it...she gets so much flack but when she releases albums like that every year why not keep going...she is cool and has so many elements of M about her and she knows it....its brilliant and i am glad to be somewhat a fan of Rih-Rihs Rated R, good girl gone bad and Unapologetic are way ahead of many of her contemporaries definitely

Speaking of contemporary....playing the MDNA album right now...and have to say i do love it more now than last year...i feel the vibes get to me now...i love the juxtaposition of emotions a lot more than perhaps i did before...i mean while i kinda wish the singles werent there...i do think it fits that vibe across the album ...it makes you feel good and you can hear those demons exorcised on the album....i mean Madonna did EDM without the need to "compete" as not that many in Pop were doing that in 2012...and they are trying to now and you can sense it...all of a sudden. So yeah in many ways she was bang on the ticket then.

I do wish that she had more of a promo campaign for it though to allow it to have been more instant in vibe as i do love her Pulp look/killer queen vibe but it wasnt represented in the imagery early on etc....and the album booklet imagery i wish were utilsied in live performances all the more but hey.

I am glad it has grown as i was worried the Dub/darker EDM elements may have hindered in time but actually its grown a lot more i ntime i feel ...yeah...fits the dark vibes of right now for me and properly is getting me in the zone! Steppin into the world...YEAH!

Not a hardcore poster on here (I don't feel I have the knowledge to contribute properly - you guys astound me

But just wanted to say that I think Madonna looks great for her age and I love how she refuses to bow to pressure from anybody. She just does whatever the hell she likes. I can't say that I would know her motivations for anything unless she openly speaks about it - but I get the impression like you guys have said that the exercise is purely, for her, a matter of wellbeing for herself and that her job requires it. I can only hope that I'm in half the good shape that she's in, in a few years time let alone her age!

Whilst I can see why the constant media barrage against her can be upsetting and annoying, I would have faith in the fact that she really doesn't give a s*** and will continue doing whatever she wants for as long as she wants. Considering what she had to fight against when she started out, this probably seems like nothing to her Madonna's a fighter, she always has been and will be!

yeah Miss Musique Madonna is a fighter...which is why i hope on a future album (maybe next) she taps into this warrior vibe/theme...i love hwat she did with Klein recentl...i loved she tapped into it for the Superbowl and i love even moreso her recent session with Terry Richardson....absolutely beautiful and well...so iconic and striking! and it makes her interview/semi-auto biography all the more broader and deeper.

I mean she survived so many backlashes and moved the line forward all the more...her only fight this time is ageism....those that say she "cant" well...as she said so herself...she DARES to cross those lines whenever someone says NO to something she must do it several times to prove them wrong

With the ageism fight - it's just once more Madonna pushing the boundaries! Though at least she's not totally alone - some of the comments about Cher from her X Factor appearance were very sad. And it seems to come more from women strangely enough... *sigh*

I hope she focuses more on music in the future, maybe in collaboration with another short film like she just did with Klein. I know she's passionate about film but I just think what with all the struggle and uncertainty in the world now with revolutions, political dishonesty etc etc that she would have a lot to say that could be very interesting - and she has the platform where it would definitely be heard.

Miss Musique, what are you're favorite M songs/albums?

Personally, I adore them all - even Hard Candy, but I can see how people would say it's nowhere near as good as her previous work. I'm in love with Ray Of Light right now. That album is stunning.

I haven't listened to them all but I grew up with the Immaculate Collection - which as a greatest hits type thing goes, is pretty unsurpassable in my opinion!

Of the ones I have listened to, I really really like Ray of Light. From what I can tell people were trying to put Madonna in a box sonically and then this came out of nowhere and flummoxed everybody!

I think my favourite Madonna songs are La Isla Bonita (guilty pleasure) Frozen and Live to Tell. Her ballads are underrated in my opinion - whilst not having the strongest of voices, the emotion always rings true and comes out, a quality which is not always the case in the charts today!

Yeah unfortunately i htink Madonna gets it the most....and Cher surprisingly never seemed to recieve such ageism...but the UK from what i heard on Radio 1 near enough panned her eprformance...not that i aw it but i kinda found it refreshing it wasnt just M...it is basically any woman over 40 who wants to really psu hforward into mainstream music/pop culture...and Madonna is the biggest.

What i found refreshing last year was that Madonna just kinda...came out with MDNA and didnt "compete" but it did as well commercially as many who did promote their asses off of recent times....again refreshing really. Of course gaga, RIhanna and Katy Perry are three different areas of the Pop market right now and are pretty hard to match these days ....but its an interesting ride to be agaisnt the tide.

and what i lvoe is that Madonna ahs looked after her voice so much...i mean 55...looking superb and her emotion in her voice is there and better a ever was....her performance of Between The Bars last month was so beautiful and daring!

been revisiting some madonna tracks today

and as always i ask questions...lol

Why was 'american life (headcleanr rock version)' not used as the original song edit? ... it is so much more fitting to the theme of the album?

Today I received Ray Of Light in the mail, I was VERY excited to hear this album as I have heard so much about it, and I must say, my expectations were certainly met, it's a beautiful little album, gorgeous haunting vocals and melodies, such interesting use of Instrumentation and I love all of the Middle Eastern/folky vibes I'm getting from songs that are predominantely electronic sounding.
13 tracks, and tbh the last 2 haven't grown on me yet, I find Little Star and Mer Girl a little bland (as in structually) but I think that's jsut because the first 11 songs were so epic and these songs are like the calm after the storm, bringing it to a relaxing close, I'm sure I'll learn to love them, not every song can be as instant as others.

BFP i agree the rock remix gives AL some edge hence why she performed it live...awesome! great vocal!

glad you have it Adz hope you enjoy her albums do require so many listens...glad on first go it has managed to hit ya Mer girl is very avant garde and very trippy and macabre yeah...takes a while to grasp it...such a personal body of work...what i love is that ROL has this lightness with it...juxtaposed with a quiet darkenss and strangeness about it...very cleverly done.

And something while revisiting MDNA recently i feel almost grabs that excellence...BUT there is soemthing there that feels "almost" to me....its almost there....that light/dark vibe i lvoe as contrasts and themes across the album just wish her raw vocals were used more as they would give certain songs more kick...more than art/technique as EDM songs use vocoders often...but i feel it would have been ace if she did ...

and yeah Adz....i do find it clever...some thin kthat lyric is "cheap" but i think its very clever love for money and existing as though you were money...speaking of which...much like Bedtime Story i do with Love Spent was a song that was double its length as i love how it grows and blossoms and gets heavier and punchier as it goes on then launches in a new vibe and directio...then i feel instead of concluding it could branch out even moreso too love it though.

I wish Madonna would give the go ahead for a complete remastering of all her late 80's/90's studio albums, I don't know if it's just my itunes but LAP always sound really quiet compared to her other albums.

Yeah woul love it if they planned something for LAP25 or something...my fave album of all time....would be amazing to hear it remastered...all the sounds, productions, vocals just on blast...yeah would be eprfect plus the demos/b sides/mixes all there too...would be beautiful.

Then after they could remaster the sounds of Erotica, Bedtime Stories an Ray of Light....Music onwards are fine...but i think that would be perfection definitely! TFA, LAV and TB were all remastered in 2001.

I mean can you imagine if she did give the go ahead for a COMPLETE remastering of her entire discography? She could release them all separately and all in one giant box set and it would be totally glorious!
