Ok just noticed last night my cat has fleas, i have used frontline in the past but read reviews saying its not brilliant but the Johnson's 4Fleas Cat Tablets are good.

Any advice what i should i get?

Best to consult your vet, anything you buy over the counter will not be as good and you need something to treat your home too which again the vet has the best stuff.

try using advantage can get it from vets and online as in petmeds.co.uk, different ingredents than frontline, fleas seems to immune to the stuff!

Frontline has always worked okay for me but have also used Advocate which is one of the best but you'll need it from the vet.

I would get some Advocate from the vet and a couple tins of indorex for the living spaces.

Avoid Johnsons or Bob Martin. Cheap and fairly useless.
I bought Effipro which worked very well for me.

Also don't bother going to your vets for flea treatment you get charged more from them. Buy it online. I sometimes use Viovet. (You can get your prescription from your vets sent there if a prescription is required)

Edit: You can also try Medicanimal.com but I've never used that one)

Agreed. I tried serval over the counter treatments on my dachshunds and got nowhere. I phoned my vets who sent something expensive through the post to me, it did the trick.

advocate and advantage are pretty much on the same level for flea treatment
(read the info about advocate - it's basically advantage with an added worming ingredient)

but when using advocate, remember that it doesn't treat tapeworms. you'll need a separate product to treat for these.

i'll sing it's graces for lung worm coverage however.

also re: bob martin, don;t poo-poo all their products straight off, bob martin double action is the same as advantage (same strength, same active ingredient, same dosage, but probably a different carrier liquid) i recently picked up a three month supply for £8 at home bargains for my dog, where as a 4 month supply of advantage is around £12 for him.

I've used the 4fleas tablets and in my opinion they do work pretty well but only on the fleas not on any eggs, when i took in a neglected cat recently he was completely covered in fleas and i gave him a 4fleas pill the fleas started falling off in minutes, i showed the vet the next day what i had given the kitten and he read the ingredients and said they were ok, infact he said because there were so many adult fleas on the kitten it was one of the best things to use for instant results...but i still needed to buy a flea tretment from the vets one which combined a flea treatment and wormer.

dont forget to get a spray for your home too....

I used to swear by Frontline. But this Summer it just didn't touch them.

So a friend who was having the same problem said their vet recommended "Advantage". I got some online (a lot cheaper), and boy did they work. The cats were flea free within 2 days, and the bites stopped on me too

the 4 fleas tablets can be used in conjunction with a spot on treatment to see faster results (spot ons work within 24-48 hours, tablets can start working within 15 minutes in some cases)
