Did anyone notice the awkward moment when Lord Sugar seemingly forgot that Steven wasn't the only male on Navdeep's team?

The bit where he said to Steven 'and you can make some perfume for your mum'. Pause. Realisation dawns. 'Oh and you can too' to Patrick.

It made me smile and cringe for Patrick.

Ha yes, made me grin too

Although I think it was because he assumed Patrick would be happy to wear perfume, rather than he forgot Patrick was male, and then realised it was probably a dodgy assumption to make.

I did think that was a poor treat for a mixed gender team, why couldn't the boys make an aftershave?

You know it comes to something when the a former task is now considered a treat.

It came out bad in the edit, so it probably was worse in reality.
Undoubtedly a case of a assumptions based on a stereotype. Can be quite offensive at times, but can be amusing at other times.

I like the gender-neutral term 'scents' for perfumes and aftershaves. I'm sure they probably did end up making aftershaves for themselves. Sugar could just have put it "youre going to be making some scents, perfumes for yourselves ladies and aftershaves for you two" or something.

It was funny but also slightly awkward as a moment. Patrick's being characterised as flamboyant true, but its all the more visible because of how traditionally dressed and behaved the other remaining lads are. I think with the age they are its fine but they are being 'babied' a little by the show - on the one hand, they are young adults, on the other Sugar keeps making 'child'-like references to them and they seem to be not allowed to swear at each other, for example.

In my opinion to be Asian, a woman and educated is the end of the road as far as Alan Sugar is concerned, poor Navdeep was all three.

A useless project manager and another bloke who was just Ok, there you go, off you go Navdeep.

Disgraceful, biased and predictable.

Why do you think the fact that she is Asian, female and educated is what let her down? People have won in the past that are all of those things.

Asian winners: Yasmina Siadatan, Arjun Rajyagor.
Female winners: Michelle Dewberry, Yasmina Siadatan, Stella English, Zara Brownless.
Educated winners: Not entirely sure how well educated they have all been, but presumably quite a few of them have good qualifications. Stella English and Zara Brownless are ones that I know about.

There just seems to be a pattern of the ones who Sugar will chose before the ones I described.

Of course one or two might get through but many more have been fired in favour of less able candidates.

Maybe so, but it could just be coincidence - in fact, I think it's likely to be. It irritates me how every time an ethnic minority person is fired unfairly, there is immediately a race row about it. Should Sugar keep those people in just to maintain a fair balance of ethnicities? To me, it's more biased to keep in the token ethnic minority.

For the record, I am a middle aged white woman from Norfolk UK, so there is no race ethics coming from me but this scenario has been played and played several times in the boardroom with the same result.

Your ethnicity jibes are nonsense as no one is saying anything more than when he fires someone with the same background over someone who has shown little or no business sense, it should be noticed.

It makes no difference to me who you are or where you're from. I haven't made any assumptions about what your ethnicity is, I just don't agree with what you are saying.

I don't quite understand your last sentence... could you rephrase that?

I think I will let you work it out for yourself as I have said it a couple of times already.

'Your ethnicity jibes are nonsense as no one is saying anything more than when he fires someone with the same background over someone who has shown little or no business sense, it should be noticed.' I just find the phrasing of this sentence odd... When he fires someone with the same background as who? I think I get the point that you think Navdeep was fired on her background as opposed to what she's done, I just found the sentence confusing.

I feel like you've got the hump with me about this. I'm not trying to have an argument here, I just disagree with you and I'm debating it. That's what the threads are for.

I don't think Lord Sugar's firing of Navdeep had anything to do with her ethnicity, gender or education. However for whatever reason he seems to have always had it in for her, and was just waiting for an opportunity to be able to justify firing her. Which I don't think he got but still did it anyway

No hump, cant be bothered with silliness like that but I dont like people playing the race card against posters when it was nothing of the sort. I had a reasonable opinion as I have seen it happen several times on TA.

I wasn't using it against you, it just sounded as though you were implying that you thought Navdeep being Asian was possibly a reason she was fired. If you weren't saying that, I apologise for getting the wrong end of the stick, but I don't think it's unreasonable that I came to that conclusion, as we've had those conversations so many times on Digital Spy.

I think Sugar, as he stated, saw Navdeep as someone more fitted for the professions than business (he suggested she'd be a good advocate). That may be so, but I think she had shown some business nous. She wasn't just good at presenting; she contributed to discussions on business ideas, and was often right. Her main flaws were her carelessness over the costings last week and perhaps, as was mentioned, that she wasn't really innovative. She could see the benefits and the flaws in ideas proposed, but didn't really generate them herself. That could equally have been said of other contestants who did better though, including Arjun.

I don't think it's quite fair to say he had it in for her though; I think that he actually liked her, but thought business was the wrong road for her.

You sound like an apologist who works for some loony left wing council, and worries on behalf of certain 'ethnic minorities' that Christmas and the Union Jack may be offensive to them, even though they aren't offended in the slightest.

How you got to that from my posts is totally laughable but full marks for such a vivid imagination. I did work for my local council many years ago but it was only in the car registration department, didnt see any politics, left wing or others, just boring hard work.

If I was to make some outrageous assumptions about you on the strength of your post, you would then see how ridiculous yours are.

Race was only a part of why I felt Navdeep was fired and yet, you and others have jumped on it, race on its own would not be why Sugar fired Navdeep when Patrick has been dire for so many weeks but Sugar does not like women who are educated Asians.

Yes, women have won TA but Michelle and Yasmin both left after starting a baby and Stella is taking Sugar to court because there was no job as she was led to believe. Sugar has let two good girls go and kept David and Patrick who have repeatedly failed.

Thanks very much, of course there will be disagreement but that doesnt automatically mean I am wrong.

The spat with Sugar and Trump on Twitter today is hilarious with the two old boys squaring up to each other, just goes to show however old and rich they are, they can still be idiots.

@gilliedew - you have a point and it kind of annoys me too.

Last year Hiba got turfed out for no particular reason, she was slightly weak on that task, but generally she was a solid character and she got given the boot without much of a reason. I know Hiba is not Asian, I think she was Middle Eastern, but nonetheless.

Based on the weakness in the task reasoning that Sugar used to fire Hiba, it should have been Andrew that got given the kick off yesterday.

@george.millman - Yasmina is not Asian, she is middle eastern as she is part Iranian.

Anyway, it's all gravy. I'm sure the eventual winner will be someone who should not have won, but what the hell. It's The Apprentice after all.

I think you mean Haya - Hibah was fired in the second week the previous year.

It says on Wikipedia that Iran is in Western Asia, and I took that the be the truth. Although geography is not my strong point, so feel free to correct me.

I agree with you. I was disappointed to see Navdeep go, and I think he only kept Steven in because he favours him as he is 'streetwise'.
