If he likes to keep his family life private that's obviously up to him.

But wasn't his letter from home from his brother, or have I got that wrong?

I would have thought if his wife had sent him a letter that wouldn't have been too intrusive on his family life.

Perhaps David wanted to get as far as possible in the competition off what he does in the show and not rely on the old missing my kid sympathy vote trick like another contestant seems to drop in at any opportunity . Big up for him if that's why as I hate the sympathy vote

Yes it was, which at the time I thought was odd. With hindsight I believe he decided to keep his wife & kids out of the limelight, they never have been. That's his choice & respect to him

Probably as simple as that and nothing more sinister.

I must admit, I did wonder how Charlies daughter was there seeing as most schools have a no term time holiday policy these days.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying anything against David wanting to keep his family out of the limelight.

To my way of thinking a simple message from his wife wouldn't actually be throwing her into the limelight. I just find it a tad odd. That's only my thoughts on it though.

I'm sure he will have mentioned them but they don't show 24/7 footage infact they hardly show any so not really something we can comment on!

yep and one particular contestant is playing that to the hilt this year! Kiki wants to be princess - He just probably wants to keep his family out of the limelight and pehaps his wife is not fame crazy like a lot of the spouses.

David has two young children, so he probably didn't want to bring them all the way to Australia; plus he is a pretty private guy in terms of his family & doesn't prostitute his family to the media.

He must certainly have talked about his family around camp. Else I would imagine Ashley would have been "keen" on him. Maybe not; but they would make a good couple, methinks. A couple of Beautiful People certainly. And both intelligent and good humored too.

He seems to want to keep his private life private. Most likely he did talk about his family, but might have asked the producers not to use that footage. Also, the wife might just not want to be part of this show in any way, and doesn't want any Daily Fail articles about her letter to David.

I thought that it Kiki was able to be there because private schools may have a different policies about time off, what with them being paid, but I could be wrong.

As for Davids wife/family- I imagine that it's just a matter of her not liking the limelight. Although I'll admit that that's just a guess because we don't get to see many personal conversations or see any quiet chats like we did in the old days of the show, so it's not as easy to find these things. The old days of the live feed was great for giving more insight- probably why they stopped it. That said, wife or no wife I don't sense that Ashley has any romantic feelings towards David.

I agree something certain celebs could take notice of.

That was my conclusion too, perhaps had it written into his contract?

Anyway, we're all thinking that it's David protecting his family but perhaps it's his wife who's saying "I don't want to be in the TV/papers!!" as she wants to live a normal life? Though how she's going to still achieve this if he does move to Hollywood and become a 'famous actor' is anyone's guess!!!!

EDIT: Just realised that you said that it's the wife who might not want the publicity - so I agree with ALL your post

Apparently yes it was, another poster said it was from Louise

I still wouldn't have thought a quick footnote from his wife saying 'miss you' or 'you are doing well' or something like that wouldn't have gone amiss. It doesn't involve her in the 'spotlight' nor could any of the papers misconstrue it into anything other than that.

Of course, it's none of my business actually

I too assumed that he kept his family private as he hasn't really spoken of them at all and that maybe it was agreed with ITV that no footage is aired if he does talk about them.

In regards to the BIB, it is possible. There are certain famous people who's family are as well known and others where you would have to do some serious digging to find anything.

I think, if the family and the famous one want to keep things private, on the whole they can. I think there is normally a certain amount of "inviting".

Good for him if he wants to keep his wife and children away from the public eye, and becuase he isn't talking about them 24/7 doesn't mean he doens't miss them or love them any less. Having said that I thought his letter would have been from his wife, now I know he has one, but thats up to him. Perhaps his wife works, or the child (or children) have school commitments.

I have two children and I work, but I wont' talk about my kids all the time becuase some people don't always want to hear it, its nice to have adult converstions!!!

I also find it a bit odd we haven't heard any mention of his family/wife, but I don't watch avidly so maybe I missed it. Maybe he asked for them not to be mentioned on the edits? I don't know. I'm sure he must have talked about them to his fellow camp mates as it would be really weird if he just never mentioned them, and someone would have asked I'm sure (are you married, do you have kids, etc).

I just googled out of curiosity and saw a few pictures of him and his wife at events so it's not as if she is kept indoors
