Are One Direction over-rated?
I think it's absurd the amount of praise and attention that these lads get, they're very average imo. They don't even write their own stuff!

They are a regular boy band and they can sing live. What more do you need from a boy band which has just begun its career ? They deserve their fame because there is no other pop boy band like them in the world.
They are not the backstreet boys just yet, give them some time. |

IMO it comes with the territory. The more success an artist has the more posters ask are they over rated.? Think Justin Beiber, Gaga and Rhianna.
Of course if you don't like them you will say yeh and if you like them you say nay ![]() No matter the poll results it can not be denied they are mega big right now and even fans know this level of exposure and fandom can't last for ever So riht now their fans can enjoy it and their detractors can look forward to the day when the hype has died down

I cannot stand them at all, but I understand that there is a market for them.
However, one thing that REALLY bugs me; their new song penned by Ed Sheeran... they are actively trying so hard to sound like him on the track. It's one of those where they've clearly just completely copied the sample. |

They're not as good as the screaming fans who think they're the best thing since sliced bread would lead you to believe, but they've got catchy songs going for them at least.

Although I think they are overrated, why do you care that they don't write their song? I don't care who wrote it, if I like a song I buy it!

Average vocals, average looks, average songs. I would say yes they are over-rated.

Overrated as a credible musical act but not as a musical phenomenon. They go above my head actually. History tells us that they have a limited life as a chart act but it will be interesting to see if they'll last as long as the Bay City Rollers did.

I would say they're over hyped more than over rated as most of the media etc isn't about how great they are vocally/musically/performing ... it's mainly about the phenominon not the talent
but hype encourages more hype so it's not their fault that they turn up everywhere |

100%. One thing that annoys me the most about the modern day music industry is there's plenty of amazing singers out there that are unsigned struggling to make it and probable audition for the x factor etc yet dont get a chance because there not what producers are looking for/ the producers think we would prefer to see terrible singers.
But yet 5 average at best singers come along and sell millions upon millions of records it just boggles my mind. |

Over-hyped and it will begin to wear thin eventually.
The formula is not knew. Tried and tested. Just used now on a new set of teenagers. The next generation are eagerly awaiting. |

I don't know if they've improved, but their singing was below average when they were on the show. Often their vocals would be drowned out by the backing track to make them sound better.
