As for the loser thing - I'm sure Olympic athletes who win silver don't feel like losers - really the final 9 all were 'winners' in that they got to the exciting stage of the competition.

Steve does seem to be the least popular winner of a competition like this that we've seen in a while though - personally I didn't think his performances made him a worthy winner, and I really don't recall reports of previous winners being booed. But that's my subjective view - just appears to be one shared by quite a few others.

I liked Andy - the young lad who made Sharon's hairdresser cousin cry. I think he was probably more cheated than G4 !!!

I liked him too. In fact I would have enjoyed the show more if he had been on instead of Tabby.

Both sets of fans should be happy - we're both going to see a lot more of them in the future and looking forward to an album from both

None of them are losers in the sense they have had a showcase for their talents and hopefully doors will open for a few of them to get a boost in their music careers.
Steve is not the least popular winner. He has an awful lot of support out here.
If people cast their minds back there was a lot of gareth fans who were dead certain that he should have won.There was a lot of bitterness then.
Steve got booed. So did tabby at the football match. It's just because of the Sharon contraversy that every little thing is blown out of all proportion.

A friend of a friend met some one down the pub and were talking about G4. The chap in the pub said that G4 were the most talentless peice of Sh*t that the had ever had the misfortune to hear. He said that they would be lucky to sell any records if they included a £50 pound note in the album. I don't think this my self - just repeating what was said.

Ok - I confess - I made all of this up. But the point I am making is that the paragraph above adds nothing to the debate. There is nothing constructive or thought provoking in the comment. Much like the throwaway comment that you quote.

Its quite ironic that you chose to post that comment in a thread intended to discuss why the fans are still arguing, when your post is one that (in my opinion) only serves to taunt others.

....moneybags, I think the vast majority of people never saw Gareth as "loser"......more as the"runner-up" who sold millions of singles, and was/is very successful in Europe/Asia. And if I may correct you........I have NEVER personally "bashed" or insulted Steve........and I rather think you are fixated with the word "loser" and seem intent on brandishing it about all the time. Steve won - well done to him (I did actually visit Team Steve last Sunday morning to offer my congratulations, as did a lot of Team G4). G4 were runners-up who will be releasing a single and an album in the New Year, which of course we are all thrilled about over on Team G4. So as far as we are concerned - yes Steve won on the night - but G4 have also come out of the competition with an enormous amount of credibility and a career as well.

Spot on Penny, I don't know why some people insist on referring to you as a Steve Basher. I don't recall ever seeing a post where you bashed Steve in any way, on the contrary you have been very congratulatory I am sure many of team Steve will back me up on this.

Real fans of G4 and Steve (by real fans I mean people who will actually go out and buy things that they produce) don't seem to be arguing at all. It's just a few casual fans and stirrers who seem to be causing problems and bad feeling between the 2 sets of fans.

I voted for Gareth in Pop Idol 1 (I'm still a big fan).and was so annoyed when people called him a "loser" after he'd reached the final.
If someone reaches a final of a talent show such as Pop Idol or The X Factor and they receive less votes than the other act on the night, it doesn't make them losers. They have beaten many 1000s of other contestants to finish second and they deserve a successful career as much as the "winners" do.

i think gareth has been treated like dirt by the media.he has done realy well,but he does not get any respect,i feel so sorry for gareth,daruis can do no wrong he never gets called a loser,but if the press have it in for an artist they can break them.
i realy like gareth,more than will i have never liked will.
so some older people voted for gareth not just teenyboppers.

Perhaps if more of the 'grown-ups' took the same time and trouble before firing off retorts, there'd be less animosity.

You can hardly blame adolescents for posting as they do when there are adults showing a distinct lack of tolerance to each other.

The exchange above for example - why assume there was malice intended, when a reasonable response could have instigated a conversation and broken down some barriers?

I can't imagine rational adults behaving in the way some do on this forum if they were in a face to face situation, instead of behind a computer screen.

It's spoiling some healthy debate for the majority of posters.
