This is totally outwith the usual script as the voters usually want them out as soon as possible

Caused ? You make it sound like they were struck down by a virus !
Maybe the reason is two very likable, sharp , intelligent , independant women . They are no bimbos , they are quick and sharp and endearing .

So the moral being that it is possible for young women to do well if they are some of the above

I agree. He's always banging on about young this or older that. I think he must be dreading hitting the age of 21.

They are not that young.

Anyway, i think its because they are nice and have been fun, gutsy and quite normal. Nothing much relating to gender or age.

The way you've worded it makes it sound like them being in the final has all been a horrible accident

I would imagine they're the final 2 because they both seem like lovely, honest, grounded, attractive women who have given their best shot at everything they've faced - and the public see this and vote accordingly.

Totally agree with these two posts. They are just the type of women that OTHER women like hence they got the votes

They have come across to be........

Fun
Caring
Sensitive
Down to Earth
Ready to give it a go
Non bitchy
Helpful
Not up their own backsides

and from what I have seen, thoroughly good eggs.

Maybe that's why they are in the final 2.

Don't get me wrong I am happy they are in the final and they must be good campmates that they have managed to tick all the boxes female contestants are judged by that males are not

They are in the final for the same reason Helen is not. Helen used the looks, her body and her thickness for votes and it backfired on her. Ashley and Charlie have never used their appearance in this manner but instead have let their personalities sell themselves. Remember main voters on these shows are women.

So I think its a good day. The Towie/OMG Helen factor is obviously starting to fall out of favour with the public and the more normal/girl next door type are rising to the top.

Somehow I don't think the OP Dundeeboy meant any harm by his post.I am female myself and have watched a lot of reality shows where the males have won even though the females were more talented and the explanation was often that girls vote more for the guys because of their looks etc and usually don't like voting for girls in the same way.So it's refreshing to see a vote like we see in in this show which is unbiased. The voters seem to be voting for who they like the most rather than the sex of the person

Youngish women, oh, really. Don't tell me you only want men to win.

I think one thing that has to do with it as that they are both nothing like the type of female celebrity that has been promoted by the media in recent years.

They aren't like your normal footballers wife, silicon enhanced, trowelled on make-up, shallow self-absorbed celebrity.

They both have a naturalness to them and appear like normal intelligent women with a good sense of humour.
There's a lot to like about them as people as opposed to them wanting to be liked for being objectified cliches of what young female celebrities are supposed to be at the moment.

What's impressive is that they are both top 2, it isn't just a case of one of them being a token winner. Both of them are up there as the top 2. Really they both won.

I think the OP posted with purely positive intent.
I don't understand some of the replies.

I get what you're saying.........most of the time females don't do well in programmes like this. I'm really pleased to see these two seem to have bucked the trend.

I agree with both of you..........they put their all into the experience, didn't whinge or say, can't /won't do that, didn't worry about their appearance, or come across as if they were 'special'. Yes they're getting well paid for it & also upping their profile, but so what, they could be doing a lot worse.
I've personally enjoyed watching them for 3 weeks, & they're the 2 I wanted to see in the final. Just a shame one of them has to lose out.

I agree with the OP, young females have to be really, really good to beat males in reality TV shows -- Ashley and Charlie are very difficult to dislike. A female friend of mine, who invariably hates all the young pretty girls normally, has nothing but praise for these two.

The OP never implied that he only wants men to win, you shouldn't put words in other people's mouths, especially if they suggest someone's being sexist or something.

All the OP is doing is expressing surprise at two young women making the final two which is, honestly, pretty valid. Females always have a tougher time in publicly voted reality TV shows like this because there's a lot of people who won't vote for them unless all the male alternatives are either incredibly boring or unattractive. Women in these shows are also much more harshly judged. Just look at Tulisa on X Factor: she hasn't said anything to Christopher that Gary Barlow hasn't said to someone else, but the sheer amount of negativity aimed at her because of her comments is massive.

This

Both very lovely, strong, confident women. Both deserve the win but I'm backing Ashley.

Probably because they're both intelligent, closer to middle age than they are to their teens, one is a mother, and they both have the life experience to act like mature, considerate women, not daft little girls.

....and a good sense of humour always helps.
