Analogue 6.1 Blu-ray players?
As the title suggests, are there any on the market? The reason why I am asking, my Marantz AV receiver lacks HDMI connection for DD HD and DTS-HD capability BUT it has 6.1 analogue input (accepts 96kHz sampling rate playback)
I have been doing some research but all I have found is TOS link, coax, HDMI and 2.0 phono output Blu-ray players. I like the idea of TOS link or coax because its compatible with my system but i have read Blu-ray players will not down convert DTS-HD, DD HD and multi channel PCM for coax and TOS link. Is this true? Are there converters for HDMI to coax/TOS link or shall I just buy a new AV receiver and be done with it? Thanks guys |

What is 6.1? I've heard of 5.1 and 7.1, even 9.1 but never 6.1.
Anyway. The digital audio out of most Blu-Ray players I have seen will output raw DD or DTS for the AV amp to process. They should also be able to down-convert to 2.0, possibly with Dolby ProLogic encoding as well. What they probably won't do is decode DD or DTS and carry full bandwidth 5.1 audio. There is enough bandwidth on a SPDIF link for the raw compressed DD or DTS signal but not for 6 channels of PCM audio. HDMI does have enough bandwidth for up to 8 channels of audio. |

Super Hi Vision 8000 line tv picture (8K) has 22.2 surround sound! I have seen and heard it at the BBC for their Olympic coverage. Stunning, just stunning |

Well there is actually the odd player (one I know of and own) out there that have full 7.1 analogue (phono) audio. One such player is the Logik LBD2000. I looked into buying one for the same reasons as the OP to get full quality audio on a receiver that didn't have HDMI input, though I actually ended up getting a newer receiver and speaker system so it ended up in the bedroom.
It should do what you want as it has full 7.1 analogue outputs, for 6.1 you could just connect up one of the rear channels. However, it is a very old player now and will probably only be available second hand e.g. eBay. Due to it's age it may have problems with the odd newer Bluray disc, though I have found it ok though like many old Bluray players it takes a fair while to start up and is a bit noisy in operation but nothing show stopping, as I only paid twenty odd quid for mine (a few years ago too when BD player were commonly £100+) I'm pretty happy with it. |

Thanks guys Pretty sure the S550 decodes HD audio so you should get True HD and DTS HD via multichannel PCM - you'd need to confirm this..... |

Oppo make blu-ray players with analogue outputs - but they're not cheap.
