She is a single working mum. I'd jump at the chance of earning £30 - 40,000 for a few weeks work if I got offered it. Nothing wrong with that. She's employed in the entertainment industry, and raising her profile is important, so I can't see your point.

Charlie's boyfriend is an Architect and they've only been seeing each other for a couple of months. It's Charlie's family that help with the childcare, particularily her mum. She didn't know if her boyfriend would be able to make it over there.
