Again, it's a very good point. They're making a big song and dance about how he "deserves" to win the show because of his fantastic talent and how he will have hit albums, and yet strangely, none of his compostions are being showcased on the main show : are they secretly afraid his own songs would see him voted off in a flash?

I'm seeing a lot of Baloney sympathizers here....no one expects you to get him or his style, he's a bit beyond you, i suppose

I don't think so. I think his 'fans' will claim to love any dross he comes out with. Ella at her audition sang her own song. It was unspeakably crap, but she was praised to hell and back for singing it. It didn't even make any sense, even she still doesn't know what it was about.

Right. Thanks for that.

I don't think they like the idea of acts performing their own songs too much. Ella was another who supposedly has self-penned material at her disposal. But I think Lucy was an exception, purely because it was so difficult to shoehorn her into specific themes and genres. Admittedly, James gives exactly the same performance week after week, regardless of the supposed theme. And people seem to be enjoying that stupefying repetition. But it didn't work out anywhere near as well for Lucy. It may be more 'real' to have them performing their own songs, but it's highly likely to be an automatic vote-loser, too. Besides the fact that the audience wouldn't be familiar with the song, what is there to measure it against? With a song that's already been made famous by the original artist, the audience know what to expect (Ella's swansong being a notable exception). But if James dodged a big note, messed up the lyrics, etc, then how would anyone ever know?

The thread is about James, not Christopher. And he's performing glorified karaoke on a TV show, because he wants a shortcut to the limelight. His "style" is asking how high when told to jump. But I do agree, otherwise ~ how he's stayed in the competition this long is most certainly "beyond" me.

They are hyping him simply because he is the only one with a cat in hell's chance of having post show success. Giving his slaughtering tonight a standing ovation and calling it 'the performance of the season' was extremely laughable.

You will see James types busking every day in the towns and City's he's nothing new.

He's fine, but technically Jahmene on a off day even is way better.

I think he peaked last week. But Cowell's minions will have been sent the bulletin telling them to talk him up, as he is perceived to have all the 'credibility' they fear Orange Chris lacks.

What success will he have? Ed Sheeran is the type of act he's emulating and with one single performance on X Factor he blew that clown out of sight.

Who's going to buy his records?

LOL, if God created a nemesis for Orange Chris its name would be Credibility. Hilariously, it equally applies to James.

You mean when he's off key and out of tune...consistently?.

Don't get me wrong. I don't expect him to have any success but can you really see Jahmene, Chrisopher etc selling records? UJ might've sold a bit if it wasn't such an oversaturated market atm.

I'm not sure whether it's some people being unable to see talent outside of their particular tastes or not, but it's oh so predictable every year that various charges of fakeness, arrogance or people being deaf etc will be flying around. If people don't like someone, they 'can't sing', regardless of the fact that they quite obviously can.

I don't see any of them achieving anything Vol. Melanie and Jade were phenomenal but their faces didn't fit. The whole judging panel should be ashamed of themselves.

That would be my question too. He's not a Damien Rice or Ed Sheeran, he's just some bloke who plays cover versions on his guitar on the X Factor (and he might even be struggling in the voting if his bottom 2 finish is any guide).

Totally agree! when someone's version of music does that 'somethin' to you it just does.
I'm sure that Joe Cocker and Kate Bush still have people knocking them and liking Cliff Richard, and when I listen to The Pogues and Band Aid someone will be listening to Mistletoe and Wine. FINE x

Lot of fear that James might win being expressed on the forum tonight.

I hope it's him and Union J bottom two tomorrow. I want Christopher to win to show X Factor producers that tactical voting has put him up against the only acts he can beat.

Theres a reason he sang to empty rooms at his gigs and also why he hasnt had a record deal before.

Every song sounds the same.

Obviously he cant write good material so they will have to hire some good writers and then try make him sound different on some tracks. He cant release all covers on his albums and he would only get away with singing covers for so long at live concerts.

I love his voice personally, it's not the most powerful like Jahmene or Chris but there's just something about the tone that gives me goosebumps. It's personal preference, if you don't like him then don't vote or buy his records - simple!
