To be honest I didnt even have a favourite in the final 12.
Ella - frumpy 16 year old stage school
Lucy - more of a comedian than a singer
Jade - interesting voice but not much to her
MK1 - 'urban' act that wouldntve been modern ten years ago
District 3 - mediocre boyband but at least they formed themselves and werent manufactured
Union J - manufactured boyband
Carolynne Poole - shouldve changed her name, too unwieldy. Never saw much of her, very average
Melanie - good voice but she was never going to go far
Maloney - karaoke singer
Kye - pretty average in most respects; looks, voice, presence, and no more than that
Rylan - loud, gradually became my favourite by default as he wasnt as '1D' - one dimensional as the rest
Jahmene - traditional young crooner mold guy who no-one has noticed is a young Johnny Robinson
James - has also grown on me, but still looks like a young nerdy bear rather than a popstar
You get some oddities every year, but normally there are several clear outsiders to the boring mold every year - Matt 'everyman + falsetto' Cardle, Cher 'confident + bratty' Lloyd, Alexandra 'great voice + dancer' Burke, Diana 'no shoes + the claw' Vickers...
Looking back on some of those old acts immediately things about them come to mind. I dont know anything about the acts we have left - theres no ongoing storyline, no evolution, growth, change, necessarily. Theyre still the same people we met at auditions.
Frankly, the show hasnt given me any reason to invest in or care about any of them. Theyre cutout characters, there's nothing to them. Not necessarily the truth, but its all the show has taught us about them and (crucially) why they should be voted to win. The show just hasnt invested in the characters and the audience and this is why people are switching off.
