People being 'fans' of acts that do terrible cover versions?
To me that's like people claiming to be 'fans' of people who go on Big Brother. It's seriously depressing to think people can claim to be fans of people who have zero musical talent in the same way they claim to be fans of people who sit in a house.
I swear if there was a reality TV show called People Randomly Pulled Off The Street there would be posts from 'fans' of the postman who did a good job. FFS. Really. WTF? etc. |

is this a thread about Westlife?
no, it is a bit weird to be a 'fan' as such, the idea that there are fans of Union J in the world is depressing in the extreme ![]() i think supporter is more the word than fan though, we support someone cos we see something in them, and hope that their music will live up to expectations...it might or it might not ![]() it's not quite on a par with being a fan of a big brother desperado though, being able to sing and perform well is a musical talent |

But isn't this the whole premise of X factor?

I think fan is quite a teeny bopper word. It gives the impression of being in awe or starstruck by someone. I like a lot of artists but I wouldn't scream at them or call them my idol if I ever met them.
