You are absolutely right! Summed it up to a tee. I'm being a wet weekend in north Essex, she is a sunny morning in California!

I don't understand why you suggest that Charlie had unfair advantages. Ashley had more trials from what I can remember, she also had a secret task which heavily featured her and she also got the phone call home.

She also had Ant and Dec drooling over her for most of the show.

Charlie had the advantage of being a big name for being on EE, Ashley similar for being in Pussycat Dolls. It was fairly even to me.

The only person who had a massive advantage was Helen with all the bl**dy trials.

I think it's been discussed endlessly on here so there's not much point in going over old ground. Keywords being, "Kiki", "American" and "Eastenders".

I actually liked Helen, but then, I didn't really dislike any of them. Which is kind of a shame because every good show needs a good villain.

But then I arrive at the question of "why did you want Charlie to win, then?" and I can't really answer that. Maybe it's because she was more of an underdog than Ashley.”

maybe it's because people found her likeable and fun? Just a thought. Why shouldn't she have won? They were two pleasant, sporting young women who played a good game. Only one of them would win. It was obviously close.

Poor Ashley, she lost for all the wrong reasons and that's the one thing that people will remember from this season. ”

It seems that the voting was close. I genuinely can't understand the outrage at Ashley coming second. If an american can very nearly win against a lot of brits, presumably an american can win. You are surely not suggesting that Charlie ONLY beat Ashley by being English; more English in fact that any other contestant this year.

What were 'the wrong reasons' for losing? Getting fewer votes?

I'm not actually. I think not winning has been better for her - as most people know that she was the most entertaining and had more input into the show. She was proactive rather than reactive. Charlie's highlights consisted of her reaction to other people's funniness. Ashley's highlights were all of her own making.

And look at it this way - loads of people already knew of Charlie before - her fanbase will not have increased since the show. She's not THAT much better known than she was before. Ashley on the other hand - well - EVERYONE seems to be talking about her.

Like last year's winner - the existing fanbase did it for Charlie - I don't think the cute kid made much difference but it certainly didn't do any harm. Maybe Charlie did want the win more than anyone else - its just a pity she didn't do anything herself to earn it.

Why would you suggest that?

YOu win I'm a celebrity by making people want to vote for you. There is no other way. Charlie won by being sweet, not very confident, determined, good natured, unfussy, relatable and just plain likeable. If she had not been, she would not have won, any more than another actress from a well known soap did.

Personally, I think there were a lot of people voting for Charlie simply because she's British. I've seen enough xenophobic twoddle from users on here saying that Ashley should not win because she's not British. It's absolutely vile that people can be so xenophobic. I really like Charlie and I'm glad that it was out of her and Ashley (and glad that David Haye was there at the top as well) but I still think Ashley would have won it if she was British and not American.

I think that the best thing to do if watching reality shows is to suss out at the start, who the most likely people to win are due to huge fanbase and so on and then just enjoy seeing whoever else is good natured, entertaining, interesting, funny, etc etc and realise that they probably won't, win. Good way to save money by not voting because there'll be very little chance for anyone else.

It's best not to really care who wins. In years or reality viewing (well alright not so much in recent years but I was pretty dedicated back in the day) my favourite has never ever won a show. My support is the kiss of death to any reality tv contestant (apologies Hugo and Ashley). I've pretty much accepted that now and am just happy if they stay in for as long as possible.

It's nice to have more exclusive taste.

I think they should all be applauded for entertaining us for three weeks. Its the ONLY reality show I watch and actually look forward to. This year's bunch were better than some previous years.

I'd love another David Gest or Carol Thatcher year though - they were my two favourite series.

I don't think it mattered who won . It certainly disproved the thoery that pretty girls can't win this show. Two pretty girls 1st and 2nd.

Charlie was English, Ashley was American. That is all it took really.

Neah, I would imagine it was simply a combination of those who liked her through the show, along with EE fans and importantly the floating final voters who vote for who they recognise.

But then, maybe Charlie lead the vote throughout.

Ashley had it wrapped up and then Ant and Dec said near the end that a take over had happened in terms of the vote. Charlie must have had a late surge of voters.

Ashley was better than her in many departments on the series and I think nationality did play a part. Mark Wright said he wanted her to win because she was English.

Very little, surely? I haven't seen ANY, though I am happy to accept that there may have been a little. Obviously if people had been xenophobic Ashley would not have beaten all the English contestants except one.

Very true. A very pleasing result all round I thought.

I doubt that Ashley was ever ahead in the voting to be honest. I know that A&D said at one point 'the lead is switching as we speak' or something similar - but all presenters of this kind of show say this - to get some last minute telephone revenue.

I would be devastated if I lost my job, my house, my family died, etc, not someone winning a reality show that if it was cancelled tomorrow, would mean nothing to my life. Don't get me wrong, I'm not slagging the show off, but something really devastating is not someone winning or losing a reality show. Perhaps we need a little perspective here, I'm A Celeb is a reality show, a form of entertainment that if it went off air, would hardly alter the course of history. However, some of these shows have developed a fanatical following, where a helpline had to be opened when Big Brother was cancelled to console distraught fans. These shows are merely a 21st century take on a game show and nothing more, same as the end of The Generation Game didn't mean much at the time.

You're right of course. I'd say 'devastated' is too strong a word. They all got paid handsomely and no-one was killed. Most of them entertained us for the best part of three weeks in what is still the most enjoyable reality show on TV.

Can't wait until next year.

Well we know Ashley was the only one to escape the B2, but Charlie was 3rd out of 4 when Eric went (and yes she WAS in the B2). So Ashley must have always been ahead until the last 20 mins when people decided they wanted a Brit winner... and Kiki

I honestly believe it was a last minute thing and I expect Charlie won by around 52% against Ashley's 48%.

Don't worry, Ashley fans, we know who our Queen of the Jungle is! With her singing career, she has too much credibility anyway to be another IACGMOOH winner, doing tacky adverts and TV appearances. Charlie, on the other hand, needs these jobs in order to keep paying the bills until Eastenders have her back once again!

No, I'm not suggesting Ashley not being from the UK was the sole reason she lost out, but it seems it definitely played a part.

The "wrong reasons" for Ashley losing have been discussed endlessly here. In fact, I just mentioned them a couple of posts before. So I don't see the point in continually repeating them.

I just think it's disappointing overall, more so than an outrage.

Please. Please don't be. Please don't be devastated.

It's just an em-effing goofy gameshow.

Ashley is not devastated.

Evil did not triumph.

That's an interesting point. Could there really have been a "nationalistic" element in the voting? Are people that stupid though? I mean it isnt as if they were supporting Mo Farah in the Olympics against legions of foreigners, this was 11 Brits and and American -- voting against someone for being a "foreigner" in a game show sounds a bit daft, surely?

"Oh great, another British win in Olympic year". Really??!!

If that really was the case here (I'm not sure yet) then we had better keep the show all-British to stop these pesky foreigners from coming on trying to take our gameshows, our jobs and our wimmen!!!
