Soap News: 'Hollyoaks' appoints new series producer Cast changes ahead.
'Hollyoaks' has appointed a new series producer as Zara Ellington takes over the reigns, having been appointed by joint executive producers Bryan Kirkwood and Tony Wood. The new producer has previously worked on a number of Channel 4 shows including 'Skins', 'Misfits' and producing the new BBC1 drama 'The Fall', which stars a number of Hollyoaks stars including Bronagh Waugh (Cheryl Brady). Speaking about her appointment, Zara thanked Lime Pictures for giving her the opportunity and revealed that she plans to 'give the show a new direction by focusing largely on group orientated storylines, from families to friendship and student groups'. However, with the shows' cast at its' largest ever, currently boasting more than 50 regular characters, press speculations suggest that Ellington's first move may be to axe some of the show's current cast. The C4 drama was recently praised for its' successful #EnjoyTheRide plot which saw a minibus crash lead to the death of four of the show's regular characters including one of its' longest running stars Rhys Ashworth (Andrew Moss). |

Soap News: New 'Hollyoaks' producer axes 5 characters, more to be announced! More cast changes to come
Zara Ellington, the newly appointed series producer for C4 soap 'Hollyoaks' has announced five characters who are set to depart the show in the coming months as her era on the show begins. Leaving in the new year will be the Savage family, Dirk, Dodger, Liberty, Will and Dennis Savage. Liberty, played by Abi Phillips was first introduced in late 2010, as a friend for teenager Theresa McQueen (Jorgie Porter) whilst her father Dirk (David Kennedy) and two brothers, Will (James Atherton) and Mark 'Dodger' Savage (Danny Mac) joined her on the show in early 2011. They were joined by Dirk's nephew, Dennis, played by Joe Tracini at the end of 2011. The family's biggest storylines have included Will being accused of the murder of Lynsey Nolan and the current storyline surrounding the paternity of Dodger. Recent weeks have seen Dodger being joined by Patrick Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) and Sienna Blake (Anna Passey), his biological father and twin sister. It is currently unknown what the news will mean for either of these characters or whether this storyline will link to the exit of the entire family. Meanwhile, a C4 insider revealed: 'This is just the beginning of a number of cast exits, Zara is keen to make her mark on the show and the Savage family didn't fit in with her vision for the show. |

Soap News: Seven more 'Hollyoaks' axings announced as new producer makes her presence felt! More to follow
'Hollyoaks' have announced that seven more characters are set to leave the C4 soap in the first few months of 2013, after yesterday's announcement that the Savage family will be leaving the show, taking the axe total to 12. Leaving the show will be Leanne Holiday (Jessica Forrest), Texas Longford (Bianca Hendrickse-Spendlove), and newcomers Patrick and Sienna Blake (Jeremy Sheffield and Anna Passey). All four characters have been largely linked with the Savage family however the longest serving character of the four, Texas was also at the heart of the long running 'Silas' storyline in 2011 after her sister India Longford (Bethany Kingston) became the serial killer's first victim. Commenting on the axings, new producer Zara Ellington commented: ''I commend all four actors for doing a fantastic job on 'Hollyoaks' during their time here but sadly, all good things must come to an end. With the Savage family set to leave, we feel like Leanne and Texas' respective journeys on the show have also come to an end.'' However, the producer denied claims that Sienna and Patrick were axed stating: ''Sienna and Patrick were always going to be bowing out at the end of their storyline with Dodger and the other Savage family members.'' However, she has promised that all four characters will exit ''with a bang'' stating that ''over the next few months, the storyline with Dodger and his two families comes to the forefront, as the Blakes continue to persuade him to spend more time with them, but at what cost will this come?'' Meanwhile, the producer has made the brave decision to axe three members of the McQueen family, announcing that Theresa McQueen (Jorgie Porter), Bart McQueen (Jonny Clarke) and Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) will all be exiting the show. ''Yes, three of the McQueen family are going to be leaving. The McQueens have long at the heart of the show but with every big family, there is time when some of the characters must move on. All three characters have contributed immensely to the show during their time in Chester and we're going to ensure that each gets a fitting exit for their time in the show.'' Mercedes has had a turbulent 2012 after getting love rival Mitzeee Minniver (Rachel Shenton) locked up for stabbing her, despite stabbing herself. She is currently awaiting trial for her attempt to frame Miss Minniver, it is not known whether the verdict of the upcoming trial will culminate in her exit or whether she, indeed will have further storylines before her exit next year. Meanwhile, McQueen cousins Theresa and Bart joined the show in 2008 and 2010 respectively. All three will exit in the first quarter of 2013. |

Hollyoaks Episode Synopsis' - Monday 31st December to Friday 4th January
Monday 31st December
Mitzeee and Maxine are left in charge of organizing the New Year's Eve party at Chez Chez but things go pear-shaped when they manage to blow the fuse and are forced to call in Liam to fix things before the party kicks off. Meanwhile, The McQueen's attempt to work out the baby's parentage but what is John Paul not telling his family? Elsewhere, Sinead feels increasingly guilty about her pregnancy secret and despite being warned by Jacqui, she decides that she is going to tell Bart, however, she is freaked out when she discovers her photo of Rhys has gone missing... As a worried Darren and Nancy attempt to settle baby Oscar before the fireworks begin, there are real fireworks when Ruby discovers that Esther has been looking through her photo album of her and Jono and in her anger, Ruby tells Esther that he'd still be alive if she hadn't stuck her oar in. When the residents all gather at Chez Chez for the New Year's Eve party, not all of the residents are in the celebratory mood as Sinead is worried when she sees Esther holding the photo of Rhys and knowing that she suspects something, Sinead issues a threat to Esther, tell anyone what she knows and she will make her life even worse than it already is. However, it looks like things could get worse for the expectant mum when a confused Esther reveals that she just found the photo lying on the ground. Meanwhile, deciding to shun the party, John Paul agrees to look after the baby but as he relaxes on the sofa, he is shocked when he answers the door and finds Craig standing there! Tuesday 1st January Craig tells John Paul that he has come to take him away but when he hears the sound of a baby, he says 'I thought we had escaped it' and runs off into the night, what is going on? Meanwhile, Sinead is forced to reveal all to Esther, knowing that the teen won't let it lie and as she spills the beans, she is unaware that they are being listened in on by Bart, when he hears what Sinead has to say, he confronts his girlfriend calling her 'trash' in front of all the revellers before storming out of Chez Chez. Blaming Esther, Sinead tells the teenager that 2013 may well be her last year of life when she's done with her. As the countdown begins, all of the villagers gather in the middle of the dancefloor to ring in the new year but as they reflect on the year that has passed, an emotional Jacqui is unable to deal with it and breaks down, having to leave the nightclub. Seeing the damage she has caused, Cindy chases after her into the street but as she tries to comfort her, Jacqui tells her that she doesn't want sympathy, least not from the woman who she knows Rhys truly loved over her. When Carmel notices that Myra doesn't attempt to go after Jacqui, instead choosing to party with Mercedes and Doctor Browning, she reacts angrily telling her mother that even when Jacqui needs her most, she always shuns her in favour of Mercedes. The following morning, Myra sees the consequences of her favouritism towards Mercy when Nana takes Carmel and Jacqui out for New Year's Day dinner and Myra is left with Mercy, Doctor Browning, Bart, Theresa, Joel, John Paul and the baby. However, when Frankie storms around to the McQueen household, Myra gets a shock as she informs her that Craig has been in touch...he's moving to America! Wednesday 2nd January John Paul has a lot of explaining to do when Myra queries why Craig and him aren't going away together and explains that they befriended a lesbian couple whilst in Dublin. Desperate to have children, the couple begged one of them to be a sperm donor and John Paul agreed however the couple's relationship didn't work out and when one of them left for good, the other girl was forced to demand that John Paul pay child maintenance support. Whilst Craig suggested that they move away so they cannot be pursued, John Paul was unsure. Unable to cope, John Paul fled to Chester but as he ran away from his problems, Craig was being bothered by the selfish woman and decided that enough was enough. However, as an angry Frankie berates John Paul for once again abandoning her son, Myra tries to alleviate the problem and prove to herself that she is a good mother by suggesting that Frankie tries to contact Craig and get the two of them to talk it over. As Frankie begins to see sense and attempts to get in contact with her son, there's more bad news as a call comes through for John Paul from a lawyer in Dublin, the mother of the child has been found dead in Dublin but he has been listed as the father on the child's birth certificate, how will John Paul cope with fatherhood and will Craig be able to be reached? Meanwhile, Nancy and Darren try to keep the peace between Ruby and Esther but Nancy is worried as Esther continues to become further isolated, scared of what will happen if anyone finds out about Sinead. Over at the O'Connor household, Diane has her own problems to deal with when she finds graffiti on the door saying 'Skank', confronting her daughter about what could possibly have prompted the prank, Sinead clams up and refuses to talk but as she asks Jen to have a word with Sinead, Diane worries that Sinead is taking on too much. Thursday 3rd January With Callum, George and Lacey all revising for January modules, Martha takes Ash out shopping in an attempt to bond with her eldest but as the duo take a break at College Coffee, they are concerned when they see Sinead storming off from a table with Jen. As Martha hottails the teenager, she asks her what is wrong. However, as a stressed Sinead breaks down with the toll of the last few days dawning on her, she reveals all to Martha, she cheated on Bart with Rhys and the baby isn't her boyfriend's, but Rhys'! Over at the McQueens, Frankie cannot get in touch with Craig and worries that he may have already boarded the plane, with the possibility of a life in Chester, consigned to looking after the baby he hasn't even cradled before ahead of him, John Paul wonders if he will cope. Elsewhere, the Savages are put out when Dodger returns from spending New Year's Day with the Blakes, as he boasts of how great the celebrations were, Texas warns him that Dirk and his siblings feel like he is replacing them with Patrick and Sienna. Elsewhere, as Myra worries about what will happen to John Paul and the baby if Craig has left for good, she begins to mull over Carmel's harsh words on New Year's Eve, has she been a selfish mother, indulging Mercedes whilst denying Jacqui any real attention? As her insecurities sink in, she asks Nana how she ever coped with all her brood, voicing her concerns that there is jealousy brewing within the McQueen siblings and telling her that she feels like a useless mother. As Nana looks back at the good old days and mother and daughter bond over memories, Carmel begins to see how her words may have came across and feels guilty, asking Jacqui to try and make an effort with their mother as she is trying her best. However Jacqui vows that she won't be able to forgive her mother for the way she has welcomed Mercedes and Paul back into the family home, saying that her sister and Doctor Browning will get what is coming to them. Friday 4th December Dodger attempts to make up for his insensitivity towards the Savages by bonding with Will and Liberty over a drink at the SU but when he gets a text from Sienna inviting him to go to a gig with her, even allowing him to bring Texas, he ditches his siblings, have Patrick and Sienna managed to drive a wedge between Dodger and the family he grew up with? Elsewhere, Jacqui puts on a facade that she is alright as the family huddle around John Paul to help him in dealing with the shock of having to raise the baby but behind her family's back, she plans to expose Mercedes and Paul's true intentions, believing that they are taking advantage of Myra's charity. As the couple head out for the night, Jacqui steals Mercedes' phone and looks through her text messages, she is disturbed when she reads a number of vulgar texts sent to Paul back in August, just before he was arrested and sees that Mercedes was aware of Paul using hookers, feeling like this isn't enough to prove anything, Jacqui decides to subtly place the phone beneath the sofa cushion but as she does so, Mercedes walks back in to find her phone. Spotting her sister with it in her hand, Mercedes turns nasty telling Jacqui to back off, she is jealous of the fact that Myra has always valued her over Jacqui and she will delight in continuing to be their mother's favourite. Meanwhile, Diane is none the wiser when she questions Sinead over her emotional behaviour yesterday and her daughter brushes it off as hormones, how long can she hold it off before telling Diane the truth? Elsewhere, Esther cuts off some of her hair when she sees hurtful messages on the DocYou site combined with a snide comment made by Ruby about Esther's hairstyle. Is this a sign of what is to come? |
