We all know David Guetta has had massive hits all over the world (but not really on his own).
He has been Djing and making music long before he ever made friends with every single music star on the planet.

My question is this...

WOULD DAVID GUETTA HAVE A HIT/BE AS SUCCESSFUL IF HIS SINGLES DIDN'T ALWAYS FEATURE ANOTHER ARTIST?

Surely this man is a flop in his own right....?
His success is solely based on who he collabs with..right!??

Definitely no, he makes the songs so they are his songs.

He probably could now have a big hit on his own as he is a big name now himself but he wouldn't have gotten as massive as he is without collabing with other big name artists.

Same with Flo Rida and Pitbull though?

10 years ago, Guetta was making fantastic music in his own right.

His step over to the "pop" side has tarnished him IMO. He's gone from excellent electro/house to lazy, same-sounding pop-collaboration.

Granted it's a good mark of how his career has gone, and is no doubt excellent for his bank account, but as a former fan it's a shame he's not at his musical roots anymore.

Even his music 10 years ago was cheesy tack.

He actually made an amazing house tune back in 1994 with Robert Owens who is a house legend. check this out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtoIa005XOs

I know everybody used to say Timbaland relied on Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake for hits.

But The Way I Are is one of his biggest ever hits, and it featured Keri Hilson, D.O.E. and Sebastian who were unknown at the time. Keri Hilson ended up having a successful solo career after that, but before that song she was basically unknown. So I'd say that song didn't use its featured artists to be a hit.

David Guetta uses famous R&B/hip hop singers like Kelly Rowland, Akon, Ne-Yo, Kid Cudi, Ludacris, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Hudson, Fergie, Taio Cruz, Rihanna, Flo Rida, etc. to get hits.

But I think David Guetta is famous enough now that he could get a hit using an unknown vocalist tbh. He had a couple of pretty big hits before 2009, like Love Is Gone for example.

Who said that? They are crazy. Timbaland was massive before The Way I Are. Maybe not in pop, but in RnB and Hip Hop, Timbaland has been the go to guy since the 90s. It was still off the back of other artists, though. Namely Missy and Aaliyah. They all helped each other out.

I think 'Titanium' and 'She Wolf' prove that he doesn't always rely on big names - I know Sia is a remarkable artist but to your average David Guetta fan she's an unknown.

100% agree he has collaborated with enormous stars but had most of his success with her

Everybody was saying when Give It To Me was released, and shot straight to #1 in the US and the UK that it's only doing well because of Nelly and Justin and blah blah blah.

Timbaland was having lots of hits until the begninning of the 00's, but he had kind of a "dry" period until 2006 where he only had a couple of hits (kind of similar to his situation right now), and then he blew up again in 2006 around the time Promiscuous and Sexy Back came out.

Nothing But The Beat has sold 3.5 million albums worldwide, 24 million singles worldwide, had 700+ million views on YouTube and every gig David has done this era has been sold out.

So no. He is not flopping. He is living a producer's dream.

Yeah, you're right. I don't really include that for Timbaland tbh since it's basically just a OneRepublic song with Timabaland's beat-boxing from Say It Right slapped on top (and also it smashed in 2007/2008, so he was already massive when it was released).

Guetta doesn't just use 'big name' artists, his next single 'Just One Last Time' features Taped Rai, who is unknown here.

No way is he flopping, he's getting bigger and bigger, he is due to be the support act for Rihanna's world tour next year, which will promote him to a mainstream Pop/R&B audience even more.

I'd say David Guetta peaked in summer 2009, when Sexy Chick, I Gotta Feeling and When Love Takes Over were all smashing. He'll never get that popular again (not that it's a bad thing, most pop stars never experience that sort of success in the first place).
